So I do have a penchant for some ‘ethnic’ style jewellery and a billowy frock. And a bit of beading/embroidery/sequins/faux fur. I think I pull it off Grin but no matter what I wear this is what I look like. You could put me in a trouser suit and I’d still look like a art/drama teacher. What’s that all about? What’s your inescapable style?

'Mumsy... but like fit posh mumsy. You've probably got a son called Hugo who you take to rugger '
I honestly have no idea how to take that 😂 I'm 23, no children and I'm decidedly more country/farm chic than posh!

Tollygunge · 10/01/2018 20:37

I’ve often been described as having social worker chic

I’m not a social worker

About 10 years ago DD and I were out and she pointed to another Mum and said
"Look she's wearing your Mummy uniform"

She was wearing jeans, breton striped top and superga trainers.

Rosewatersoap · 10/01/2018 20:44

Swaying between preppy blob and suburban hippie mama.

insomniac123 · 10/01/2018 20:45

DD 17 recently said I am starting to look like a local very posh private school 'PPS' mum. She keeps saying it 'Your looking very PPS mum today.'
I don't know whether to be flattered or insulted.... I am a little bemused that 'they' have a look, what that 'look' is and how I've achieved it!

I'm a combination of teenage Goth from the noughties and potions teacher, depending on my mood, skirt length and how much I'm scowling. Occasionally I slip into Victorian school ma'am on the rare occasions I wear my hair up.
Fashion inspiration comes from Amy Lee, Wednesday and Morticia Addams and Abby Scuito, with a hefty dose of Victoriana thrown in for good measure. I like my style. Grin

Haggard woman in a suit. Is that a thing? This is the closest I can think of:

Oh dear. Google "Theresa May 2010".
That is me Sad
In my head, I'm Drew Barrymore crossed with Audrey Hepburn...

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 10/01/2018 21:10

I am midlife crisis mum

Either in muddy dog walking jeans, or attempting to "make an effort" in tweed mini and knee high boots, and my lovely teenage son affectionately calls me "midlife crisis mum"Envy

DarthNigel · 10/01/2018 21:27

Elivissa-autocorrect Grin But actually perhaps channelling some sort of duke, possibly an 18th century one might work for me in terms of styling...

Mrsknackered · 10/01/2018 21:36

Apparently I dress like an art student. I'm a nursing student Confused

Pictureiswonky · 10/01/2018 21:44

Some days I'm like Joan Holloway from Mad Men, and others like a 90s student. But underneath those clothes, I'm always dressed up to the nines. I spend more time, money and energy in thinking and lingerie than any other clothing. I'm obsessed and have been since I was a teenager. I'm almost 50 now Smile

StubbleTurnips · 10/01/2018 22:00

Channelling a definite Molly Weasley here.

Callamia · 10/01/2018 22:03

The grown-up indie kid.

Lots of Breton, jumpers and velvet blazers, worn in jeans or mini-skirts. All in navy, orange and black. Only ever with Chelsea boots or super cool trainers. I don’t wear anything that doesn’t come in ‘flat’. What if I need to do some moshing at a minute’s notice?

Housewife2010 · 10/01/2018 22:04

My husband once told me I looked like a Lego Friend (admittedly I was wearing a Boden aqua cricket jumper with a lilac trim).

travailtotravel · 10/01/2018 22:06

My DH just said ' just You. You look like you'. Luv him, I am overweight eBay shopper with a penchant for pjs. So I'll take 'you'

ElanorGamgee · 10/01/2018 22:07

Call the midwife apparently! It came up again only a couple of days ago when I came downstairs dressed in wide leg trousers, shirt, sweater over with a vintage brooch. Charming.

VetOnCall · 10/01/2018 22:16

When I make an effort I've been told off-duty Kate Middleton - same age, same figure (when not pregnant) - skinny jeans, flat boots, stripy top or fitted jumper, bit country chic etc.

Day to day when not at work it's 'sporty outdoorsy beachy' - hiking trousers, skinnies or shorts, vest tops, casual off-the-shoulder tees, hoodies, the occasional checked shirt, hiking boots, Salomon running trainers, Gazelles or Havaianas depending on time of year.

dudsville · 10/01/2018 22:17

At the moment I'm wearing trousers that are too tight (due to festive eating) and jumpers that are too big (due to festive shopping). So I think I give the air of someone who's both confused about the boundaries of her body and slightly uncomfortable.

IamLucyBarton · 10/01/2018 22:23

In my head: 90s student + mature studenthere too. (In reality, tired dog walker look)

FernetBranca · 10/01/2018 22:27

Playmobil lawyer

Flomper · 10/01/2018 22:31

MIne is "look like a lesbian" apparently.

I do like a butch look in fairness, though, unfortunately, am not a lesbian.

LemonysSnicket · 11/01/2018 01:03

M&S Burberry.

I want to look chic and classically British / tailoring etc... but I’m skint.

The M&S bit is particularly embarrassing because I’m only 22.
