Hi folks,

Some of you may already receive our weekly Swears By newsletter, which is a round-up of products (predominantly style and beauty goodies) that Mumsnetters have been recommending to each other. As it's the end of the year, we thought we would round up the most popular products from 2017. Feel free to let us know what your personal best buys of 2017 were too!

If you want to be first to know about the next cult product, you can sign up to the newsletter here and you can also check out the Swears By page here

Mumsnet Swears By is free and independent from advertising but if you buy something through our posts, we may get a small share of the sale. You can find out more here

Happy New Year!

Alice & Charlotte
xx

The korean cream, do you have to buy all of it?

Chicinwellies · 04/01/2018 10:43

For me 2017 saw the discovery of Aveeno. Single handedly the best creams/moisturising shower get etc available. I have fair sensitive skin and dh has olive dry skin. Both of us now love this, amazing stuff. Their branding is fairly weak and not particularly eye catching but it really is marvellous stuff. Also love milkshake silver shampoo, keeps my highlights pale and ashy for months.

I switched to the 5% Retinoid. I was a bit nervous but I have to say I've had zero issues. Actually I prefer it to the 2% as it's in Squalene and I find it much slippier and more moisturising.

Obviously you have to use it a long ass time to see results and I use the Pixi glow tonic as well a fair bit so whilst my skin is v smooth I can't say which to attribute it to.

But I like the texture a lot and find it pleasant to use so will keep at it.

Ach, pardon my shitty WiFi....

Moroccan Hair Oil

Got it in a beauty advent calendar and it has made it to the "buy regularly" list.

Genuinely brilliant.

Really softens hair, much better than any blow dry / heat protector I've tried. Treats and protects hair and smooths flyaway strands.

this is the best detangler I've used. Tangles just fall out of DD's hair.

HintBean · 04/01/2018 21:41

I am also waiting for the ordinary 2% retinoid to come back in stock. Where do you all buy it from?

Which specific product do you use from Paula's choice?

My favourite this year is the origins drink up intensive overnight mask. It smells lovely and is so so moisturizing.

BradleyPooper · 04/01/2018 22:16

Ferriswheel, you can buy the moisturizer alone, or packages with various products. I've used it all and love the cleanser, eye cream and moisturizer. Korean systems normally have many steps so Saranghae is unusual..... no double cleanse or toner etc....

corrianderisthedevil · 04/01/2018 23:04

Can someone tell me how much of the ordinary retinoid stuff to use? Mine arrived today and I've just slapped on almost a full pipette worth and my face feels very greasy. Is this ok or am I going to look 3 years old when I wake?!

ElspethFlashman · 04/01/2018 23:22

I get mine from ASOS. It comes back into stock fairly regularly. I just slap on a full pipettes worth too. Doesn't seem to do any harm and I tend to be slap dash with everything.

Callmegeoff · 05/01/2018 11:51

I've bought the Paula's choice as recommended up thread. Hoping to get rid of blackheads. Can anyone tell me whether I need to moisturise after ?

Aridane · 05/01/2018 12:18

Where are people getting the Retinoid from? It's not on House of Fraser, on Amazon its ££+ and their website doesn't seem to have online ordering or reference stores which stock

WesternMeadowlark · 05/01/2018 12:50

Callmegeoff I don't know if there's an official line on that, but I use it and definitely do need to moisturise afterwards. Apparently it's important to use a moisturiser that includes SPF, as well, though I can't remember where I read that! I find that putting moisturiser on while the PC product is still very slightly damp works best.

WesternMeadowlark · 05/01/2018 12:51

Bold fail. Sorry. Callmegeoff

Skarossinkplunger · 05/01/2018 12:56

Benefit RedOn lipstick. It’s a beautiful colour, long lasting and for those of us who like to wear red lippy during the day it’s Matt and velvety rather than being overglossy. Perfection!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 05/01/2018 12:59

What are Stan Smiths? Hmm

LockedOutOfMN · 05/01/2018 13:03

Garnier Original Remedies honey "mask" conditioner. So cheap (it's the same price per ml as the standard conditioner of the same range) and makes my hair so soft and untangled, even after swimming. Smells lovely too. It's easily as good as the Moroccan Oil conditioner that I used to use as a treat but it so expensive and doesn't smell as nice.

Also H&M refreshing face mist (the aloe vera and rosewater one). I live in a hot country and splash this on my body (not face) like a perfume during the sweaty months as it doesn't dry out my skin or attract insects like actual perfume does. It costs 3.99 for a 100ml bottle so I have one at home, one at work, and one in my handbag. The scent is very light but lovely and smells expensive.
Beware though as some of the other scents in the same range are quite strong/overly sweet/sickly.

Cocolepew · 05/01/2018 13:47

Stan Smiths are trainers.

JanetStWalker · 05/01/2018 15:05

My L'Oreal Steampod has literally transformed my hair in a way GHDs never could. No more frizz or crispy ends, my hair just feels like...hair!

Aridane · 05/01/2018 15:37

Just looking at L'Oreal Steampod on Amazon now - though I guess my version maybe is having the Brazilian keratin blowdrys

Aridane · 05/01/2018 21:32

In answer to my question earlier, the Granactive Retinoid is available on Cult Beauty episode for £8 with free delivery for a first order.

sammy891 · 05/01/2018 23:00

La Roche Posay Toleraine Cleanser - very gentle on my sensitive pregnancy skin especially when the usual foaming washes started drying out my skin.
