Do you have any?

Mine is to make my summer wardrobe interesting by actually buying some pieces and not telling myself there's no point as we get three hot days. I spent this year in one pair of loose printed trousers with a variety of plain t-shirts!

I also want to return things I like but don't love rather than keeping them and forcing myself to make them work.

Anyone else?

Also: I want to spend most of my time/money on my work clothes. I work six days a week and wear my work clothes all day and often all evening. There's a uniform aspect to my work clothes -I'm a vicar - which means they are black and always with a high neck. Nevertheless I want them to be clothes I'm happy wearing, and that suit me - not clothes I can't wait to take off.

Learn another up-do. Since being on mat leave I’ve mastered “messy bun”

I also need to work on looking more put together. I’m going back to work in May so have time to do this.

Auburn2001 · 26/12/2017 13:03

Stop all emotional spending. I am getting better with this. Going to yoga helps.
Have regular ‘trying-on times’ at home of the clothes I already have. This has helped me to organise my wardrobe better this year.
I think 2018 will be the year that I will either embrace going grey or find a better hairdresser for highlights.

grandolddukeofyork · 27/12/2017 12:42

2017sofarsogood can I ask what the brand you found and love is?

MinSpies · 27/12/2017 23:21

My work wardrobe is sorted but will always be separate from my casual wardrobe as it has to be very staid.

I've been looking at capsule wardrobes on Pinterest for casual clothes but I'm lost really.

ememem84 · 28/12/2017 07:26

I also need to start ironing my clothes. Will help with looking more put together.

Waitingforsherlock · 28/12/2017 08:17

Love this thread.

I bought 40 coat hangers last week and intend to start hanging more things up. Can't find anything in the piles of gery and black tops that I have.

Rationalise existing wardrobe, too many old things, trousers that I can't get my thighs into, clothes that will never suit me. Get rid to make space for all those hangers.

Buy better quality stuff. Bought All Saints dress in pre-Christmas sale- its lovely so bought a Whistles dress in Boxing Day sale online. Hope it fits.

Try not to live in jeans- I always gravitate towards the easy or comfortable option and therefore fade into the background all the time.

Try to buy things that will go with each other not just random purchases.

Try to give less of a stuff about what people think.

Get to the bottom of my hair-loss problem, ( total confidence stealer).

Will think of more, I'm sure.

What a good list, Honeycake.

I too find nails boring. I get my eyebrows threaded regularly and see a Harley St dermatologist yet somehow I can never be bothered with manicures or pedicures. I feel I should point out that I moisturise/exfoliate/Footner/file/buff both hands and feet regularly. But when it comes to varnish, I am a bit 'meh'.

Have got another resolution for 2018: finally take everything that needs it to the seamstress/cobblers. I spend a lot of money but not very often on pieces and it's worth investing in the upkeep on such things!

Boredomismyenemy · 28/12/2017 11:49

I've already had a sort out and have two piles, one for charity and one for eBay. I'm going to pack all my summer stuff away properly into storage under the bed. I'm going to buy a small clothes rail so that I can seperate work clothes from the rest-they don't really cross over at all so I'd rather they were out of my far too small wardrobe. I am not buying any more coats, shoes or trainers. I have far too many and I need to just generally make my wardrobe work harder. I actually have few clothes, I'm happier with less choice and I've used the sales to fill the gaps, bought a nice wool cardi, a nice grey tshirt and a new sweatshirt to replace a very tired one.
I need to make time to do my cleansing routine each morning and night and actually apply face creams etc that I've invested in. It might stop people telling me I look tired!

quirkychick · 30/12/2017 10:50

Get some things fixed, for instance, a couple of pairs of boots need reheeling and some trousers need a new zip. Then I can wear them.

DameDoom · 30/12/2017 11:34

I will not be tempted to get highlights ever again even though one half of my head is currently white and the other is mousy. I will continue to try to grow it out gracefully.
Will buy more Lakeland mothball shizz to keep cashmere in good condition.
I will wear my rouge noir lippie in the summer to be controversial.
I will hunt down good quality socks for the rest of the year.
I will smile and mean it.

DameDoom · 30/12/2017 11:43

I will have my product room made into a study where I will study intellectual tomes instead of fannying and faffing about with potions and unguents.

How much of a twat does that make me sound? I still look like shite though. DH says Space NK looks like ours after a ruthless cull.

dinosaursandtea · 30/12/2017 13:16

Weight loss is a big one for me. Beyond that, I want to refine my wardrobe to stuff I really like - I did a good job on the capsule wardrobe last spring, but I think I need to accept that I’ll have periods where I want different looks, so I’m going to have sections as follows:

  • chic minimalist, feminine but not fussy Parisian/Scandi style
  • Dapper butch (so nice shirts, ties, brogues etc and maybe the odd waistcoat)
  • jeans, quirky t-shirt, blazer and funky trainers
  • Floaty artsy shit from Seasalt and White Stuff, that make me look like I spend all day at a kiln.

There’ll be a few things that overlap - blazers, jeans, brogues and scarves - but I might try and keep my wardrobe clearly separated so I can grab what I need for the mood/persona/level of obvious gayness I have on a particular day.

lasttimeround · 30/12/2017 13:23

Dinosaur - im in live with your options. Nice idea to have a few capsule sections. I might adopt that. I have zero fairly minimal wardrobe but occasionally hanker for a different look. Even just having one outfit for days when I feel I need different is inspiring

dinosaursandtea · 30/12/2017 13:26

Thanks, Last! I think I just need to stop pretending that I’m not one of five different people - or at least five different styles - depending on the day.

LavenderHills · 30/12/2017 13:45

I don't urgently need any new clothes. This year I'm going to save my money and get custom-made underwear that fits me perfectly. No more adjusting underwear, no more falling-down bra straps!

edibleweirdo · 30/12/2017 14:06

I want to be more groomed and elegant, and I'll try to buy more, better underwear lol

bananafish81 · 30/12/2017 14:20

2017 was about stripping back to the capsule wardrobe, and after a shitty couple of years spending £££££ on failed fertility treatment, treating myself to some indulgent investment pieces (basically upgrades of high St things I'd worn to death - my Helmut Lang leather leggings ALSO don't get me pregnant, but I do at least have some nice trousers)

Everything I have in my cupboard now goes with everything else, but it's all a bit samey. So next year I'd like to experiment a bit and get myself out of my rut of only wearing skinny fit trousers - 2018 is about trying a different silhouette, and then actually wearing it (instead of defaulting to my safe skinnies)

I'd also like to eat better so I can put ON some weight, as being underweight for so long is making me look quite drawn as I'm getting older. And eating so much sugar and not drinking enough water is wreaking havoc on my skin. No point in paying to see a dermatologist for botox and acne creams if I'm undoing it through crap diet and sending my hormones loopy

Oh and buy new bras!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 30/12/2017 14:24

Fab idea Dino. I want to break out of my style rut and also dress better for work so having different options for different moods would be great.
I need to embrace midi skirts + waist belts and high waisted trousers which I do like, but I end up wearing skinny jeans / trousers / leggings with loose tops / baggy jumpers all the time which do nothing for me unless I'm at my skinniest (I have chunky legs and hips but a tiny waist and nice arms which I hide all the time whyyy). And accept that I hate pencil skirts as they accentuate my calves and are totally uncomfortable!

Glamorousglitter · 31/12/2017 17:26

Wear my wardrobe a little more - not just the same y same Jeans and tops! I have acquired a gorgeous wardrobe of lovely stuff j feel great in but save it for best, I m not going to do that anymore, in fact the last 2'months I ve started wearing more and getting lots of nice compliments so enjoying it. I plan to enjoy my fashion and clothing - I love clothes fashion why shouldn't I then enjoy wearing it all!

Also buy better, which I ve been trying to do, this doesn't mean the most expensive but better fitting better made and better looking clothing and accessories

Also to sell what I no longer want on eBay - I have been threatening to do this for years but not found the courage to start. This year I will .

2017SoFarSoGood · 31/12/2017 23:35

TheGrandOldDuke it is called Universal Standard. Amazing clothes for curvy women, that are all incredibly comfortable and machine washable. Best thing, if you go up or down in size within one year you can replace the base items for free. Love their range.

Almahart · 02/01/2018 08:41

I need to stay away from eBay.

I work three days a week and think I might wear a dress, a skirt and trousers for each of those days.

I have some many clothes I can't actually find what I want and desperately need to re eBay tons of stuff. It's my real weakness
