Do you have any?

Mine is to make my summer wardrobe interesting by actually buying some pieces and not telling myself there's no point as we get three hot days. I spent this year in one pair of loose printed trousers with a variety of plain t-shirts!

I also want to return things I like but don't love rather than keeping them and forcing myself to make them work.

Anyone else?

To stop buying off ebay! 😂

InvisibleKittenAttack · 22/12/2017 16:13

To not buy anything because it's on sale!

To get to March without buying anything other than replacements for basic stuff I'm throwing.

To start getting my nails done again, haven't regularly had nice nails for nearly a decade. I can afford a manicure every fortnight if I'm not wasting money on cheap clothing I then don't wear...

Get up when the alarm goes off so I have time dry my hair nicely, rather than walking out the house with half wet hair that goes crazy when it dries naturally.

MonumentalAlabaster · 22/12/2017 17:55

To paraphrase Victoria Wood, in general I look like someone who just staggered up a bank following a train derailment.... so less like that I guess. And with less cat hair over everything

2017SoFarSoGood · 22/12/2017 18:01

great thread!

Having found a brand I love, I finally have great, well fitting pieces to work with. I recently sold my house and used it as an opportunity to do a massive clear out. 17 large black bags of clothes donated - some with tags still on - left me with STILL too much for one (large) closet. I feel shame. Great shame at the greed and waste. No more!

Since then I have curated down to a very manageable capsule, with the ability to add just the right accent pieces (from my many already owned) and have felt amazing every day. There is no going back. This is the new way of life.

(I think I can donate another 10 bags and still have lots to wear)

PNGirl · 22/12/2017 18:09

These are all great!

Thought it was a good time to start the thread before the sale emails start flooding in on Boxing Day...

I'm also going to take more risks. What's the worst that can happen - I'll look silly? Big deal, I'd rather have some fun.

PicklingGherkins · 22/12/2017 18:29

I agree so much on the not returning thing. I'm awful for keeping stuff that's only okay and then never wearing it. I'd like to try something different - I live in dresses and opaque tights. I also need more shoes (I agree with the poster who hates pointy toes as I'm large of toe and look stupid). So to conclude:

  1. step out of my style comfort zone
  2. lose some weight to stop me crying about looking fat in everything
  3. Spend some money on some gorgeous shoes (I used to have an enviable shoe collection - I miss it)
threehoursin · 22/12/2017 18:30

Oh god yes, eBay.

When will I learn Xmas Confused

allegretto · 22/12/2017 18:34

To think a bit more about outfits and what actually goes together instead of panic dressing 2 minutes before I have to leave the house.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 22/12/2017 18:46

To buy better quality things - don't know if I've become more discerning or the high street has got worse, but everything in my usual cheapish shops seems to be made from dreadful material lately. This will mean buying fewer but more expensive things.

Stock up on basic layers (when I find some decent quality ones), especially plain black vests.

Buy shoes before the old ones fall apart.

Take up or mend all of the things that would work perfectly 2 inches shorter/with button fixed.

Learn to sew and make some of my own clothes!

dementedma · 22/12/2017 19:32

to be braver and try new things
To wear more dresses
To lose at least half a stone

Terramirabilis · 22/12/2017 19:38

I'll be digging out my maternity clothes next week (9 weeks gone.) Not looking forward to going back to those and will have to buy a few more things to get me through. Not planning to breastfeed after the shitshow last time, so I'll only be dealing with maternity clothes till around August/September at most. After that, diet, diet, diet and finally treat myself to some new stuff.

SE12mum · 22/12/2017 19:47

After 4 years of either being pregnant or breastfeeding 2018 will be the year I regain my body.

I plan to do some exercise to tone up.

Stick to a skincare routine day and night.

Take better care of my teeth. Having children has taken their toll - I must floss at night even though I just want to crawl into bed.

Regular hair cuts and colour. Not colour out of a box - It never ends well for me.

Find a style that suits me. I have lived in (second hand) jeans and breast feeding friendly (but rarely stylish) tops. I used to love wearing skirts and dresses but they aren't really practical for crawling around a church hall at play group. The rules are:

  • decent quality materials
  • no dry clean only
  • take better care of my clothes - hang them up, hand wash delicate things. No floordrobe.
  • actually spend money on me. My kids' wardrobes are better than mine.
TheGrumpySquirrel · 22/12/2017 20:20

Wear all my nice clothes before I get too pregnant

Look glam and put together at work every day - plan outfits

Somehow achieve summer pregnancy wardrobe that doesn't make me look like a fat hippy

Find a way to wear my hair up that looks smart and not frizzy

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/12/2017 20:23

Wear mascara more often
Paint my nails more often
Wear what I want, and don't worry about if I look 'old' or 'fat' or anything stupid like that.
Buy more boots.

PNGirl · 22/12/2017 21:09

I have another actually. This year I have bought a wool coat (Burberry), a leather jacket (AllSaints), a waterproof (Lauren by Ralph Lauren) and a camo jacket (Tesco). That is enough for anyone - No Outwear Purchases Allowed.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 22/12/2017 21:58

I've got quite a good capsule wardrobe of dresses and boots for work. What I need is some more really well fitting underwear as I feel like I'm always pulling something up or down. Bra straps, tights, knickers all need to be better.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 22/12/2017 22:01

And as pp said about the coats, for me it's no more bags. I have a mulberry tote, a mulberry hobo, and a coach shoulder bag. I also have a fjallraven rucksack. Because I'm quite fat atm I need to stop buying bags just because they will definitely not look shit on me. So I have enough bags and need to seriously lose weight so that other things look nice too.

BlueEyedWonder · 22/12/2017 23:14

To buy for the lifestyle I lead
To buy better but buy less
To stop buying and returning
To have no more than a wardrobe rail of clothes each season (we live in a small house with limited wardrobe space)
To spend the money I stop wasting on travel

SmileChuck · 23/12/2017 00:14

I love that floisme . Me too

BulletFox · 23/12/2017 00:42

Monumental oh god I feel like that.

I don't even know where my clothes ARE.

We just moved and unfortunately the removal people put heavy oak furniture obstructing access to everything else in the sitting room. I get overwhelmed when i look at it as I dont want to wrestle with humongous oak furniture.

I'll have to hire someone to help I think. Then I could get to the storage boxes and find clothes!!

quirkychick · 23/12/2017 09:00

To add to some of these great ideas:

To make the most of the clothes I have, trying out little tweaks, different combinations.

Buy a couple of new bras, possibly navy.

Buy some more jewellery, maybe from Etsy, as it's reasonably ethical.

Ponks · 23/12/2017 09:48

As has been said before, not to leave things for "best", instead actually wear them before they go out of style / cease to fit / the "best" occasion never happens.

In 2017 I kept a record on Pinterest of all the clothes I bought. Interesting to look back on and see what were hits and regularly worn, and what were misses ( still haven't worn that "bargain" sale skirt). I'm going to do the same in 2018.

Also, sort out a new work wardrobe. I have worn the same two jackets for a couple of years now. I love them, they are flattering but now starting to fall to pieces.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/12/2017 10:54

A few more:

If I find something I really love and wear quite a lot, buy another one in a different colour.

Buy another pair of the best boots I've ever bought, so I can transition to them when the first pair collapse.

Try a new hairdresser and try to sort out my horrible hair again.

LiquoriceWheel · 23/12/2017 12:01

For me, NO MORE STRETCHY CLOTHES!!! I've never weighed so much as I do this year and apart from potential health issues (obviously more important), my clothing choices have been limited and really, really ugly tbh!! Stretchy, shapeless, polyester drab.

My sartorial goals are to fit into pretty, normal clothes again! Looking forward to it!!!
