Hooray!! Rhubarb and Custard has arrived!! And while it is very lovely I'd like to take a moment to appreciate the attention to detail 4160Ts put into what they do... box has rhubarb coloured tissue and bottle is wrapped in custard coloured tissue.

This makes me smile!!

EK - if they still have LT's Folio collection, or the Barbara Herman, get either in preference. I need to re-read ACoS. I remember it was enjoyable. But the other two are in another league.

And if you can run to it, pick up a copy of Nez and report back!

MrsMacNally · 17/11/2017 13:23

Was it one of the Jardins D'Ecrivains Teta?

Motoko · 17/11/2017 13:29

Hello, coming out of lurking (started reading a couple of threads back) to join in.

A few weeks ago, I found a load of Library of Fragrance perfumes on the reduced shelf in Boots, down to £1.50 a bottle, so bought three. I got Fresh Ginger, Fig Leaf and Marshmallow. I hadn't actually tried them on myself yet until mention of them above reminded me. I like the green scent in Fig Leaf, and the sweetness of Marshmallow, but disappointed by the ginger. I much prefer Cosmetics-To-Go's Ginger, which I have a bottle of somewhere, but can't remember where!

My 'nose' is very undeveloped. I can't usually pick out single notes, unless they're very obvious.
It's been interesting reading how you all can smell different things than I can in the ones you've mentioned that I've tried. Take 4160 Tuesdays' Shazam! When I tried it, other than a hint of fizzy cola (which I can smell in patchouli anyway) it just smelt the same on me as straight up patchouli oil (old goth here!). Paris 1948 I had to scrub, although it did smell nostalgic.

I'm still trying to find a new favourite. My last one was Sun, Moon and Stars as it smelt very violetty. Previous to that was Chanel's Christalle as it was a nice light summery scent. Still got bottles of those somewhere and keep meaning to hunt them out.

My last perfume buy (other than those Library of Fragrances and samples) was L'Occitane Ambre, which is a lovely comforting scent for this time of year and to my nose, very incensey.

Oops, I've written quite a bit so will leave it here for now, but now I've said hello, I'll be joining in!

MrsMacNally · 17/11/2017 13:37

Welcome Motoko - I love L'Occitane's Ambre and am very relieved to see thy've brought it back into production. Your LoF bargains sound good. Grin

What sort of thing are you after?

MrsMacNally · 17/11/2017 14:53

TAUER ALERT!

Miniature LAdDM has landed. It's small but beautiful, and arrives with a personally signed card.

Motoko · 17/11/2017 15:02

I'm not sure! I think I need to avoid anything with tuberose, as I've tried a couple with them in and been on the verge of a headache.
I find heavy perfumes tend to have the same effect, although I used to wear Opium back in the day. At about the same time, my friend wore Poison, and I really hated that, gave me a massive headache.

I love violet and tried a squirt of Kenzo Flower recently which really reminded me of something, but couldn't put my finger on it until a few hours later when I realised it was Sun, Moon and Stars.

The thing is, I look at the notes in a perfume and think "ooh, that sounds nice", but when I try it, I can't smell those notes and often find the perfume is either only ok or I don't like it.

That's why I like this thread. I have a VIP subscription to the Perfume Society, and going on mentions of perfumes here, I've ordered some samples. I do like Tauer's LADDM and Imaginary Authors' Violet Disguise.
I think it'll just be a case of carrying on trying samples. Half the fun of this is trying lots of different ones!

explodingkittens · 17/11/2017 15:09

I've just spent an utterly blissful hour in Bloom Perfumery. I am sated Grin Details to follow when I'm not on my stupid phone on a tube.

MrsPestilence · 17/11/2017 16:19

Captured by Candlelight is scent of the week.

MrsMacNally · 17/11/2017 17:27

Have just asked M.Tauer about delivering the discovery sets to the UK. Looks complicated.
Pest - can we overlook your self-imposed restraining order and look for cheap flights in 2018? I really want to go now!

explodingkittens · 17/11/2017 18:01

Captured by Candlelight you say? Dammit, I was hoping it was going to be something I didn't want!

So, now follows what some may regard as basically an advert for Bloom Perfumery Grin. However, for anyone who gets a chance, I would urge you to spend an hour there. It really was a delightful experience - the SAs are helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and, best of all, utterly indulgent of customers who spend an hour going 'Ohhhh, can I try that one please?' and then leave having only spent £15.

I tried most of the Zoologists (they'd run out of Beaver sadly) and loved Panda, Rhinoceros and Dragonfly in particular. But actually, with one honourable exception, they were all much more wearable than I thought they might be. B*t is indeed pure dank sweetcorn though!

I also tried several ELD'Os including Fat Electrician, Don't Get Me Wrong Baby, Bijou Romantique and Jasmin et Cigarette (pure jasmine for me, no smoke/tobacco at all). Also some Olfactive Studio and some Rouge Bunny Rouge for a good hit of incense and smoke.

So I came home with samples of Embers by Rouge Bunny Rouge (smoke, balsam, incense), Lumiere Blanche by Olfactive Studio (milky woody iris, pepper and sandalwood) and Panda by Zoologist (fresh snapped bamboo stalks, wet earth and fruit). They will sell you 1ml of anything in the shop for a fiver, but you get it in a fab resuable travalo-style atomiser. The SA was just lovely, fantastic stock knowledge and very enthusiastic. Highly recommended.

Oh, and I also found a bottle of LoF Fig Leaf in TKMaxx Wink

Judydreamsofhorses · 17/11/2017 18:39

kittens that sounds so lovely. Once things are on an even keel here I am definitely up for a wee trip to London.

SOTD is FM Noir Espices.

Tooth update - slightly less painful. The dentist did say it was super inflamed (one of the nerves was actually bleeding inside it) and would take a while to settle. If it’s no better after the weekend I will ring in. God, what a saga.

Branleuse · 17/11/2017 18:44

If anyone loves Lush perfumes, then heads up, theyve brought some discontinued ones back online - hopefully permanently, but probably temporary.

I have a couple of bottles of "the smell of weather turning" in my basket, but am going to ask dp if he wants to get me some for christmas. If not, i will stock up myself

BluebellGal · 17/11/2017 18:49

SOTD Chergui Serge Lutens

Just checking in

explodingkittens · 17/11/2017 19:58

They've brought back Kerbside Violet

explodingkittens · 17/11/2017 20:02

judy I think you should definitely come down to London and we should all have a perfumista meet-up Smile

MrsMacNally · 17/11/2017 21:45

EK -even better, how about we rent a cottage on Saturday night and have a pyjama party (we play perfumista scrabble, exchange pictures of our cats, bring perfume for blind testing, draw Venn diagrams etc etc Grin). We could even try and see if we could tempt to 4160s to run a mobile makers workshop (not sure how much this would cost - guess this would in part depend on our numbers...). Could be fun Wine Cake Wine...

Judydreamsofhorses · 17/11/2017 21:50

kittens, mrsmac that sounds amazing! I actually have a friend I can stay with, it’s just a case of having plenty of cash to play with for shopping/eating/wine etc. Once DP gets a job I definitely deserve a break!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 18/11/2017 06:15

Morning all! Welcome to new perfumistas.
I haven't lost my.mojo, I'm just so busy at work (this week's challenge will be me and a colleague doing a presentation to hook enrolments for next year. So far so good . I know how to encourage 13 year olds to make the right choices...colleague has, however, decided it will be done with me doing a talk on the sculptures in the British Museum Confused
That's my Sunday then....
So I've been on an Opium, Sahara Noir and Shalimar loop reaching for LHB once I'm in pyjamas.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 18/11/2017 07:42

Morning!

I've just ordered some of the Captured by Candlelight and am now thinking I might as well order the LADDM miniature. Grin

I'm not too far from London although I haven't made it to Blooms yet.

CountFosco · 18/11/2017 08:36

Perfume free today until go into town and pop into HoF for a quick spray. Question is, of what?

explodingkittens · 18/11/2017 10:13

My branch of HoF is pretty good for the older Guerlains (ie Vol de Nuit/Chant d'aromes/Nahema/Apres l'ondee) and Hermes. Although you do have to search for them a bit - they're all on a tiny shelf under a counter rather than 'on display'. They save display space for Mon Guerlain and the eleventy-billionth incarnation of Une Petite Robe Noire Hmm

explodingkittens · 18/11/2017 11:18

My Tauer mini has arrived. It's quite possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen. Plus, a signed card and a card sample of Tauerville Patch Flash. I think I might be just a teensy bit in love with Andy Tauer.

However, SOTD is Embers (not a million miles away from LADDM). It's like a lighter vision of Avignon. A little more linear, less depth, but still very lovely. It's the Avignon for confined spaces Grin

explodingkittens · 18/11/2017 12:09

Oh, forgot to say, am totally up for Perfumista Cottage btw Grin

CountFosco · 18/11/2017 12:26

I now have Samsara on my wrists. They did have a good selection so I'll maybe have to have a Guerlain try out every weekend. And read up before hand to try and work out which I might like.
