The Ordinary - so good it's scary

I'm sure I'm well behind the curve but I bought some products finally and last night used the retionoid stuff for the first time. My word I can see a difference today already!!! In sll seriousness: clearer brighter skin.
Disclaimer I've not spent much on skincare for at least a decade as I felt I couldn't afford anything properly decent. So just oil cleansing. Very basic products so maybe my baseline is really low. But I've never seen a difference like this before. Amazed.

Victoria health seem to be the main distributor in the UK, they ship really fast first class RM and the products fit through the letterbox (I've ordered 6 or 7 things at once, it still fit through!)

This is a good place to start. Click on the link links to see more. The definitive review covers the basic line - they’ve brought out more since they review.

Another link helps explain how to layer different products. Thinnest/watery first, thicker/viscous/opaque next, creams, oils, moisturiser.

Double cleanse - the idea is that oil cleanse (1st step) removes any oil based products like makeup, moisturiser, spf (like attracts like) without the need for strong foaming which strips the skin of natural oils. Then water based removes any residue.

Hot water in the shower is too hot for facial skin. It is possible to avoid your face getting wet!

You can also email Deciem or Victoria Health to ask for a suggested regime.

This is the Fb group for the Ordinary is anyone’s interested. Very good resource for all the products, loads of newbies asking questions, tons of info in Files. Friendly 😬

Bagel would you mind telling me the name of the FB group you mentioned? Every time I click on your link it takes me to the log in page for FB and I can't remember my log in details. If you let me know the name I could just search for it on FB. Thanks.
I currently use-
Niacinamide and zinc. Amazing stuff!! Totally shrinks the pores on my nose and reduces oil on my face.
Caffeine solution for dark circles. Don't see much of an improvement yet.
Rose hip seed oil. Just bought this a couple of days ago and I like it so far. Softens skin at bedtime.
High spreadability fluid primer. Fave primer of all time and I have a primer buying addiction!
Vit C suspension 30% in silicone. Like this but can only apply once or twice a week as it seems harsh and burns a little patch of skin near my nose.
I also bought the high coverage foundation the other day. Tried it a couple of times and it's okay. I think it might make the pores on my nose appear larger but I'll stick with it and see how I get on.
I've used lots of other products (matrixyl, Buffet, azelaic acid) and while I liked them for some reason I haven't repurchased.

I love The Ordinary! Got rid of milia ( those little hard white spots) that I have had on my cheeks for years!

Okay, so I’m going to be really lazy. After reading this thread, I think I need The Ordinary in my life!

I am 30, have pretty good skin, never really get spots etc. Though I have to say, I have quite sensitive skin and have to use only fragrance free SPF/ Moisturiser, otherwise i can break out quite badly. My skin can get quite dry sometimes.

My usual routine is-

Evening

Take make up off with a make up wipe.
Wash/ splash face with warm water
Pat dry with a towel
Use a Nip and Fab Dragon’s blood pad all over my face and neck to cleanse
Moisturise
Apply eye cream

Morning

Wash/ splash face with warm water
Pat dry with a towel
Moisturise
SPF 50
Make up.

I have the start of very faint nose to mouth lines which I ideally would like to nip in the bud now, and I also have crows feet now when I smile Sad Again, I would like to get rid of those if possible, or at least reduce them. I’d also like to get my skin a bit more ‘plumped and dewy’ if poss.

Does anyone know which Ordinary products will be suitable?

@AWhistlingwoman what did you use that got rid of milia? I'm still delighted with my new products. Not sure about the vit c in silicone mainly cos I don't like silicones generally. But seems like high doses of vit c are one of few things in skincare with proper science on them regarding effectiveness. Might explore other offerings.

Canadianviews any skincare person will tell you to stop using face wipes to remove your makeup! If you wear makeup, invest in a decent cleanser that doesn’t irritate or strip away oils, like la Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo Cleanser, Body Shop Camomile Balm Cleanser or others mentioned here.

I’d look to add hydration with Hyaluronic Acid (not an Acid a hydration) and perhaps TO Buffet (or Hylamide SubQ) to add good peptides, anti ageing etc. You could think about one of their oils, Rosehip/Marula/Squalene for example. Korean beauty have lots of great hydrating essences as well.

You can email Deciem (TO parent company) for a suggest regime, via their website contact page.

I used the standard anti ageing recommendation on their website I think? Buffet, Hyaluronic Acid, Retinoid and the Rose Hip Oil. I was delighted as I have had milia on my cheeks for years! Not sure which particular element got rid of them but they are gone at last.

Thanks whistlingwoman that's the regime I'm on. It may well be the retionoid stuff out of that I'd guess

I tried the Granactive 2% in squalene for the first time last night. I was kind of expecting some sort of tingling sensation and/or for my skin to be kind of dry afterwards but no I didn't experience those things.

Although last night was my first time using I'm kind of feeling 'Meh' about it. Starting to think that I should have gone with my gut instinct and gone for a stronger one

Nutella I think the whole point of Retinoid in Squalene is to be effective without causing irritation! I don’t think you can judge from only one use, in would presume there’s meant to be a beneficial cumulative effect (as long as you don’t overuse!).

@Bagelgoeswalking yes that's true. I'm not sure how frequently I should be using it any suggestions?

Still loving mine

Off to london on sunday so i will pop to the shop again, the website i use keeps running out of the HA moisturiser

Nutella is this the first time using Retinoids or are you a seasoned pro?

I’m no expert (don’t use them) but from what I’ve seen on the Fb group, it really depends on your skin and how it reacts. I would say that most people use 2-3 times a week, obviously being strict about putting on plenty of moisturiser/oils after and using a good sunscreen during the days.

Many like the AHA/BHA red peel and say it gives really soft skin. Have you tried that? Most ppl leave for only 5 mins for the first time and you just remove every trace scrupulously.

@Bagelgoeswalking it's my first time using retinoids so I guess I should probably stick to using three times a week and see how I get on. I haven't tried the peels you mentioned but sounds good. Thanks for the replySmile

If you’ve never used. I’d just start at x2 a week but you should be ok with the Squalene.

I use the AHA/BHA peel. It is lovely - really brightens and softens the skin. It also takes down any pimples/spots really quickly.
