The Ordinary - so good it's scary

I'm sure I'm well behind the curve but I bought some products finally and last night used the retionoid stuff for the first time. My word I can see a difference today already!!! In sll seriousness: clearer brighter skin.
Disclaimer I've not spent much on skincare for at least a decade as I felt I couldn't afford anything properly decent. So just oil cleansing. Very basic products so maybe my baseline is really low. But I've never seen a difference like this before. Amazed.

I'm kinda jealous the products are working so well for some people. I spent a wad of cash on them and didn't see any noticeable improvement Hmm

Angrymummy what were you using?

I’ve had to step back from them for the moment. They seemed to be working well for a couple of months, my skin seemed to love all the extra hydration. Then, for no apparent reason, I got an allergic reaction. I don’t think it was even because of TO. Have had to go back to just Aveeno.

As a lifelong sensitive/eczema person, I’d introduced them slowly, done all the right things etc etc. It’s so frustrating. It was kind of nice - for that short time - to feel I had a little beauty session going on Sad

Just a warning to whoever was going to get the argireline for fine lines - it comes out of the dropper like water, so the first time I used it it just went all over the floor.
Now I put a drop into the very palm of a cupped hand, and then basically slap my forehead, which amuses me every morning Grin
I went to the covent garden shop, and they were super helpful, and not at all salesy. But I only came out with two products, which surprised me (aforementioned and hyaluronic). I quite fancy trying retinoid but don't know which one, or how to use it.

first

I have just about everything and i use a retinoid

Just a few drops and i use it every other night as i also like the vit C

I cant be bothered to get off my fat butt to check which one but i can tell you later if you like

Thanks Rufus. Is the retinoid one of the ones you can't use with various other products? I think that's the point in the various articles where I start glazing over. The two I've got are good, but I think I need something more heavy duty for my crazy frown lines

first

Its one they say to use at night

So i cleanse, then use the retinoid and then the wrinkle stuff then the hyro stuff and then oil

Just ordered the retenoid. Do l need sunscreen on top now ?

Report
Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 03/11/2017 07:44

They do suggest sunscreen treacle

I dont know whether its partly because your skin maybe more sensitive or partly because the good work done by the retinoid will be undone by the sun

I only use retionoid at night and spf 50 in the day. I think retionoid strip your skin down so if you then get sun on it you'll burn t more easily = sun damage including pigmentation spots which is why I'm doing all this fancy skincare to begin with.

You MUST use sunscreen, the Retinoid increases photo sensitivity.

I've had AMAZING results for my oily acne skin with niacinamide and zinc - never ever found anything that reduces oil so well without irritation or tightness and also is improving texture. The only other product that has had such a profound instant effect on my skin is Soolantra for rosacea.
Bright, from earlier on in thread, get soolantra from GP for your rosacea at night and add niacinamide in the morning - your face will be transformed. If you need any extra moisture for daytime, get hyaluronic acid serum - amazing stuff and so so cheap.
The caffeine serum has also dramatically reduced my not inconsiderable left eye bag.
I am in love with The Ordinary - only guff is the glass bottles and they all look the same!!

I got my delivery a couple of days ago so too soon to comment on improvements - but there's a hidden bargain in the Sale area - half price Neom candles! I love these anyway but only buy occasionally as they are usually. about £30, I have stocked up Blush

Love The Ordinary - Buffet, started using as I was getting fine lines near my eyes and had some stubborn dry patches from sunburn, when I behave and use it am & pm it is amazing. I also use the silicone based make-up primer to before my foundation.

I gave in and ordered some of their stuff. So far I've got

Salicylic acid solution 2 %
Azelaic acid Suspension 10 %
Niancinamide 10 % + Zinc 1 %
Hyaluronic Acid 2 %

Any advice on how to use them? On the website it says to use Azelaic only at night? And does anyone have experience with using the salicylic acid? I asked google but opinions on this seem to vary so now I'm confused Grin

As a random contribution to this chat I’ve been trialling various ‘neutral/plain’ moisturisers to use over the active serums. I was using Clinique Moisture Surge but it was a big silicony. The best I have found is Simple Light Hydrating Moisturiwer!!! It’s so cheap - about £2.50 a bottle - and is hydrating, fine on my sensitive skin, doesn’t make me oily and sits nicely on top of the serums. Much preferred it to the Ordinary moisturiser which I didn’t like the texture of.

Reike use the Salicylic to spot treat, not all over the face.

2-3 drops of Hyaluronic on clean, damp face, followed by same of Niacinamide (but be aware it doesn’t suit everyone, can make people break out).

Azelaic can go on after that, pea sized amount. You can also just put on areas of skin affected. Also, a lot of ppl use in evening only as they find that makeup pills over the top. Can tingle a tiny bit when you first start to use it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone that actually helped a lot Smile

I have really oily skin so a bit unsure regarding moisturizer. Would applying the Azelaic acid (followed by sunscreen) in the morning be enough to keep my oiliness at bay? I don't want to use my current moisturizer since it's quite strong and peeling and I don't want to overdo it with all the acids. But without it my skin is really shiny and oily after 2 hours. Any ideas what to use? Any fellow oily skin sufferers?

I had a bit of an oily t zone reike

But following the acne oily skin plan on victoria health mean that i dont any more

Obviously that might still come back or be down to other skin changes but its quite a coincidence Smile

The Niacinamide and Azelaic should help to control the oiliness quite a lot.
