The Ordinary - so good it's scary

I'm sure I'm well behind the curve but I bought some products finally and last night used the retionoid stuff for the first time. My word I can see a difference today already!!! In sll seriousness: clearer brighter skin.
Disclaimer I've not spent much on skincare for at least a decade as I felt I couldn't afford anything properly decent. So just oil cleansing. Very basic products so maybe my baseline is really low. But I've never seen a difference like this before. Amazed.

Great advice, thanks. I'm really excited to start the routine tonight. Hopefully with good results!

Currently reading through the Victoria Health website on acne and oily skin. Am warily eying up all the sugary goods in my cupboard right now Blush

BagelGoesWalking · 05/11/2017 19:02

This might be a good moisturiser.

Reike · 05/11/2017 19:48

Bagel Ooooh that one sounds good!

BagelGoesWalking · 05/11/2017 23:23

Cosrx have a good rep in Korean skincare (my latest way to waste hours). Their pimple pads are supposed to be a thing of wonder and alchemy.

This gets rave reviews too, especially for those with oilier skin, as a 2nd cleanser.

I’ve ordered the Pyunkang Essence Toner and Scinic Honey Ampoule (huge pot!) as my skin has gone terribly dry and seems to react to everything but Aveeno and Diprobase 😩 It’s the first time I’ve ordered from this company so I have no idea if I’ll be clobbered for VAT when it finally arrives (seems pot luck if it gets stopped by customs), so it may turn out to be a bit of a fiasco, we’ll see.

Which SPF are people using under make up???
I am ready to order all the bits and pieces to try but don’t know which SPF to get Hmm

midnightmisssuki · 07/11/2017 16:14

It is enough that my foundation already has SPF? Surely I don’t need more spf in top of this?

BagelGoesWalking · 07/11/2017 20:36

Depends. Are you going to be using any of the Retinoids/retinols, Alpha Lipoic Acid etc. Then you’ll need at least 30SPF if not 50.

HemanOrSheRa · 07/11/2017 21:22

I've spent most of the afternoon looking at Korean skincare on this website buttermilkskincare.com. I'm so tempted by the Cosrx good morning cleanser. But I only received my most recent Deciem order this afternoon so I shouldn't really Blush. I also want to try the NIOD Sanskrit Saponins cleanser too.

Snagz · 08/11/2017 10:36

201 I have the Body Shop factor 50, its very light and seems to be no problem under makeup.

I thought it might be making me a bit greasy but since starting Zinc etc as recommended here it’s not at all shiny.

lasttimeround · 08/11/2017 11:36

I use spf 50 - the anthelios fluid from Roche Posay - pre the ordinary this is only skincare product I forked out for. It's very light and liquid doesn't leave a cast (I have brown skin lots of sunscreen leaves me ashy looking) or give me spots. My foundation has spf too but I don't really count that. I live in Scotland there's no bloody sun to speak of but I spent my childhood frying on tropical beaches so I see sun damage on my cheekbones.

Tempted to order some retinoid, but is it very drying? my skin is already quite dry

HemanOrSheRa · 08/11/2017 12:28

love maybe try one of the granactive retinoids in squalane? I don't use retinoid/ols (yet!) but I do have TO squalane and it is really moisturising.

lovemylover · 08/11/2017 12:53

Thank you should i get anything else to go with it,?
?

HemanOrSheRa · 08/11/2017 13:06

ALL OF THE THINGS Grin! I'm only half joking Blush. I'd get the hyaluronic acid 2% + B5 and Buffet. Plus maybe the Natural Moisturizing Factors unless you have a moisturiser that you love. This is a good read and there is loads of other info on this site.

BagelGoesWalking · 08/11/2017 14:36

HeMan go for the Cosrx cleanser! It’s supposed to be really good (some ppl have said it’s TLK drying but if you have oilier skin, it should be ok). Heimish All Clean Balm as a 1st cleanse is meant to be amazing! Have seen so many people say it’s great.

BagelGoesWalking · 08/11/2017 14:44

HeMan someone posted a list of good Ebay stockist earlier today.

she said: Also ebay- I've ordered regularly from these sellers, all genuine, they have websites too but ebay usually cheaper and the websites are a nightmare to work out-

I’ve done a 1st order from yesstyle.com. Free shipping over £28 but don’t know how long it will take til actual delivery!

HemanOrSheRa · 08/11/2017 17:04

Ach. Bagel you are awful! The yesstyle site is AMAZING! If it was a real shop I'd have to be dragged out screaming. I was looking at The Heimish All Clean Balm just this morning. I am happy to take that as A Sign from The Goddesses Of Skincare and get it + the good morning cleanser Grin. I do have oily skin which has been bordering on horribly GREASY recently. But The Ordinary HA and niacinamide have started to work wonders on that.

BagelGoesWalking · 09/11/2017 00:19

HeMan I know! I have a wish list of 20 items saved 😩😂

Don’t have a look at their homeware products - such cute stuff! Like a knife, fork and folding chopstick set in a little carry case like a toothbrush holder! I don’t need it, of course.

Ollivander84 · 09/11/2017 00:22

I love the heimish balm Smile

BagelGoesWalking · 09/11/2017 00:25

Lovemylover the Retinoid will be drying unless you use oil/moisturiser afterwards, nothing else. And sunscreen the morning after and every day! And get the gentle Retinoid in Squalene (an oil).

Another moisturiser recommended to me today on an Fb group, esp for sensitive skin, is Rosette Ceramide Gell*.

HemanOrSheRa · 09/11/2017 08:22

Too late Bagel I spent hours looking at that site. If you spend over £40 they give you a 10% off code at checkout Grin. I didn't order those dinky little cutlery cases, table/chair leg covers OR hair laundry tissues but I did order a towelling headband with ears. Plus the two cleansers, some collagen eye masks and some bits of skincare for DS 12.

Is the Heimish cleanser good Olli? Until recently I couldn't understand the need for double cleansing. My skin has been greasy for so long, make up would slide off. But now I'm using TO HA and Niacinamide my make up stays on ALL DAY Smile.

DollyPartonsBeard · 09/11/2017 09:10

I'm just jumping on to say that after reading this thread I bought some products from the Ordinary last week and my skin is looking amazing. I'm late 40s, coarse combination skin, a smattering of adult acne and hormonal spots, moon crater pores etc etc and I've woken up this morning and everything looks loads smoother and just more... refined, I guess.

I'm using the 2% retinoid in squalene and I think that's made the difference. I've used retinol from Thailand via eBay in the past and it was terribly drying but this stuff with squalene hasn't caused any flakiness or tightness at all. I'm also double cleansing (micellar then cetaphil) which has helped too.

HemanOrSheRa · 09/11/2017 09:53

Sounds like we have a very similar skin type Dolly. Although mine has gone haywire with perimenopause Confused. Have you tried a Azeliac Acid suspension? I used it for the first time last night. I woke up this morning with lovely (for me!) skin. Soft and some surface oil, obviously, but not a horrid coating of yucky, sticky GREASE. It's magic stuff!

DollyPartonsBeard · 09/11/2017 10:04

Heman I've got the azeliac acid as well. I wrote to deciem for regime advice and they've suggested retinoid for PM and azeliac for AM which seems to be different to what I've read others being recommended but is working for me so far. I am looking in the mirror and marvelling at how nice my foundation looks! I really thought 'nice skin' was something only other people had and had resigned myself to having a great personality to make up for my face Wink

Ollivander84 · 09/11/2017 10:21

Yep the cleaner is fab. Gets rid of every scrap of makeup
