Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

Thoughts on liquid Marseille soap, anyone? TK Maxx have big bottles of the stuff www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/women/beauty/natural-beauty/olive-liquid-soap-1l/p/16133967 and I'm tempted to decant that to have next to the sink instead of the Carex handwash we have at the moment. Is it as effective at getting hands clean, or is bar soap better?

Ollivander84 · 18/11/2017 02:50

I have the liquid stuff and it's good

UPDATE. And yes I'm shouting Grin the KP/bumpy upper arms I had. Gone. Totally completely gone Shock
I've used stuff before that's improved it but the only change I've made is swapping to soap. No moisturising or anything

Can I be totally bone idol and ask for your recommendations of soaps from Ocado? I’m thoroughly overwhelmed by the choices on there.

user1955 · 19/11/2017 18:27

I love Dr Bronner. Faith in Nature is pretty good too.

ForSaleChesterDraws · 19/11/2017 20:10

Thank you user1955

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/11/2017 20:17

Yes Dr Bronner Almond and Rose are both lovely.

Maria1982 · 19/11/2017 21:32

Well I'm so old fashioned I never stopped using soap! As in, I grew up with soap rather than shower gel, and I always feel shower gel doesn't leave me as clean (that 'sticky' feelingbo matter how much I rinse).
So, soap all the way for me.

forsalechesterdrawers I use Inperial Leather from Ocado

Maria1982 · 19/11/2017 21:33

Oh well actually- not all the way. For those saying use soap for pits and bits - careful with your bits! No soap down there, it can dry/irritate the genital area.

polarbear33 · 22/11/2017 20:16

Spurred in by this thread, I spent a lovely half hour browsing and sniffing soaps in TK Maxx and came away with 4 different soaps for sinks and showers. Some of the packaging was just lovely too, I feel like I've discovered a whole new little world (sad!)

This is the kids favourite. The smell is amazing!

Ps. It smells of salted caramel!

AuntyElle · 08/12/2017 19:44

Really lovely citrus Senspa soap is a third off in Waitrose.

And there’s a Relaxing lavender and bergamot one, also a third off atm.

Plus the insane soaps-in-glittery-music-boxes are back in stock at TK Maxx for Christmas. Love them Xmas Smile

ElspethFlashman · 09/12/2017 09:16

I am finding a lot more soap scum everywhere. But I bought a bathroom spray with bleach in it in Aldi which is magical.

Only thing is it makes your bathroom smell like a swimming pool for about 10 minutes! But soap scum just melts away.

wizzywig · 09/12/2017 09:19

Tk maxx is the mutts nuts for soap

poooooooop · 09/12/2017 09:28

Soap is better for the environment as it doesn't come in a plastic bottle!

AuntyElle · 09/12/2017 12:23

I haven’t noticed any soap scum. I’m a total convert. Smile I would never have even tried it if it wasn’t for the initial thread on here.

onlyonaTuesday · 09/12/2017 19:46

Have a knicker draw full of soap thanks to this thread.
I will never go back to shower gel

goodnightfeast · 19/12/2017 01:11

I've stopped using shower gel because of this thread. I've always been a sweaty Betty! Body-odour issues, sweaty face, had to use a very reliable deodorant.
Now, though, I've more or less given up using deodorant, too! This is incredible! Thank you!

Mrswinkler · 19/12/2017 08:15

Now you just all need one of these.

Emilybrontescorsett · 19/12/2017 08:51

Thank you for this thread. I've bought some handmade soap from Tbe Yorkshire soap co.
It looks amazing too.

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 19/12/2017 08:54

Oh wow, I remember that holder in my grandmas kitchen, and the dire warnings every time you waged your hands not to let the metal disk wash down the plug hole 😂😂

Helena17 · 19/12/2017 12:15

I agree, I use dove bar and so my oh. Way better than gel.

Oldraver · 19/12/2017 12:44

@ Orangeplastic.. I have been using the Goats Milk soap for a while as they are a local company. However a lot of their products contain sls's and palm oil which I found surprising

SabineUndine · 29/12/2017 16:38

I'm so pleased soap is making a comeback via Mumsnet. I'm a big fan of Nesti Dante, Roger and Gallet, Jean-Marie Farina and Compagnie de Provence. There's nothing, NOTHING like tearing the paper off a new bar of soap and being the first person to use it.

SabineUndine · 29/12/2017 16:50

chocolatespiders Liberty's sell loads of Nesti Dante soap and many other brands and you may find yourself buying an awful lot There is an Ortigia shop on Marylebone High Street too if you want to spend a small fortune on soap not that I ever have of course.
