Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

I should bow out of this thread because I have lather envy. Bloody hard water.

angrymummy2018 · 10/10/2017 21:39

Hi everyone! I converted to soap earlier this year and love it. I do check the ingredients though to avoid palm oil. What natural brands are people using? I'm a bit crunchy so I won't use anything with too many nasties...

snozzlemaid · 10/10/2017 21:42

I’ve been using soap instead of shower gel for the last few days after this thread and I love it. It lathers so well on a shower puff and I feel squeaky clean after.
Not sure what I’m using at the moment. It’s a bar dd got from somewhere and it’s been in the bathroom for ages.
Got some Knights Castile today in Home Bargains to try next.
Think I’m going to be obsessed and will keep buying soap now.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2017 21:43

PickAChew hard water here too but it doesn't stop me soaping!

MotherofPearl · 10/10/2017 21:58

Lord Strawberry, I ordered a bar of Nesti Dante on Amazon yesterday and now very hopeful they make the same mistake with my order!

PinkGlitter17 · 10/10/2017 22:01

sealsong Oxfam also sell Faith In Nature products - double bonus if buying it from them!

Abbylee · 10/10/2017 22:03

I buy shea butter soaps and keep several different scents in a glass fruit type bowl in my bath. It is like a mini spa time. They last forever and my skin is soft.

ReginaBlitzkreig · 10/10/2017 22:04

I've got a very nice metal travel soap dish from L'Occitane. Bought it years ago, I don't know if they still do them.

Puppymouse · 10/10/2017 22:27

I'm such a sheep. I just bought the rather expensive soap that matches my perfume off the back of this thread Blush

Ollivander84 · 10/10/2017 22:37

I have visions of very confused management in various places scratching their heads as to why soap is suddenly selling 100x better than shower gel Grin

TheMightyMing · 10/10/2017 22:43

Got four blocks of Shield £1.25 at Wilkos, feel as clean as a whistle after a good scrub with that !

Following Jesscakes original thread , I've also abandoned liquid tabs and liquid clothing detergent in favour of good old fashioned Bold bio powder, I swear my washing smells fresher!

Got to be the S and B thread of 2017 !

65cleo · 10/10/2017 22:53

Dove all the way for me. It's a cleansing bar. None of the drying effects of soap but all the benefits of being able to wash your pits & bits thoroughly!!!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/10/2017 22:54

Really hard water here too and have no issues lathering up.

I’ve just ordered a soap mesh bag off amazon

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/10/2017 23:39

Won't a soap bag keep the soap soggy ? Or do you take it out to dry it?

onlyonaTuesday · 10/10/2017 23:40

Errm I’m not sure 🤔

crumbsinthecutlerydrawer · 10/10/2017 23:50

I’ve done a week of soap instead of shower gel off the back of this thread and I now have no idea why I stopped using it. Always washed with it as a teen and then swapped to shower gel when we moved to a house that had a proper shower.

My skin feels better than it has for ages, might be because I’m moisturising every day to avoid drying my skin out but I swear using soap has made my skin absorb the moisturiser better and not left it feeling sticky. And my deodorant is way more effective. I never had BO but always ended up with a bit of a whiff whenever I warmed up a bit but nothing at all now.

Auldspinster · 11/10/2017 06:30

The mesh bags can be hung up to dry.

murphys · 11/10/2017 06:50

Huck your mum wants to go see the lady that is opposite the coffee guy. Who incidentally does a great iced coffee....

Was tempted to go and open my Nesti last night, but had a look around... we have a lot of soap on the go at the moment... Grin. In one bathroom, there is Protex and a Johnsons face bar. In the shower cubicle is Dettol soap (ds uses as best for teen pits) and Dove. On the bath soap dish is the berry/apple, white Lux (still the best) and my face bar. Nesti will have a age a bit more. (Although I don't open the packaging as I fear it will lose all its nice smell before I get to use it).

ElspethFlashman · 11/10/2017 07:06

I love this thread - I've been telling DH all about it. I'm not even that whiff but really want to ditch the shower gel now!

Has anyone seen Lifebuoy anywhere other than Amazon or is it completely gone? My Dad used it and I'd love to have it for the nostalgia.

murphys · 11/10/2017 07:23

Elspeth we have a wide range of Lifebuoy here in SA, so if you cannot find in your supermarket, I would imagine that the South African shop should have.

ElspethFlashman · 11/10/2017 07:30

I'll have a nosy.

I just bought this soap drainer thing for the princely sum of 1.16 on eBay. I detest those wire ones where the wire gets all gloopy and the ones where you have to remember to empty out the water every time. Hoping this thing will do a lot of the work for me!

NeedingSolutions · 11/10/2017 08:04

I hate soap with a passion. Bars of soap that is. It's like a bacterial magnet, in my eyes, why would you choose that over liquid dispenser soap which seems to much more hygienic. Ugh, I just shudder at the thought!

abitoflight · 11/10/2017 08:10

MightyMing I swapped to big box powder after finding answer to my smellly washing on here a couple of years ago - much better than liquid imo - and washer and dryer much happier now.* The liquid stuff leaves more residue apparently and has no bleaching agents so no antifungicidal activity so outside of drum can become slimy and smelly over time. Tumble dryer fluff became properly dry and fluffy.* My sister used liquid and didn’t have the problem but she often used oxi action stuff which made up for deficiencies of liquid
