Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

Definitely much less sweaty under arm pits since using soap

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 10/10/2017 19:39

Ghouls - I switched to soap after an outbreak of acne in my mid-20s, having tried everything available OTC with no results except stained towels. My skin cleared up straight away. I use Lush or handmade craft soaps, the mass-produced ones tend to make my sensitive skin itchy, but not half as much as shower gel did.

Oh, I've yet to find a decent travel soap dish, but anytime we go away I just cut bars down so little ones for each stop. You can even shave a bar with a potato peeler and take a flake for each shower...

FoofFighter · 10/10/2017 19:46

Talk to me about seasoning soap. I've seen it mentioned a few times on this thread. Why? How?

PurplePillowCase · 10/10/2017 19:50

it just means keeping it in a dry place for a while.
it makes the soap hard and it will use up less quickly

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2017 19:56

Ghouls I don't think it would hurt to switch back to soap at all. Try a very mild one like the Waitrose pure glycerine. Or Neutrogena perhaps - I used to use it years ago.

DameFanny that was a fascinating post, thank you!

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2017 19:58

Foof unwrap soap and leave somewhere dry for as long as poss. I put mine in my underwear drawer, makes everything smell lovely.

The soap gets harder and will, last longer when you come to use it.

Gbtch · 10/10/2017 20:01

DameFanny. I am going to experiment as u suggest. Sounds good! Thanks

DagenhamRoundhouse · 10/10/2017 20:01

Seconding Chanel soap. Very expensive but so well made my bar lasted two years! In fact, scent started to go before it was even half work down.

My favourite is Coco.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 10/10/2017 20:03

My Mum used to store soap in undies drawers! I thought it was something dating from WW2 due to inferiority of ingredients but am interested to see it's still going on!

SunshineLollipopsRainbows25 · 10/10/2017 20:10

I've never even thought of this I'm going to swap

Payitforward55 · 10/10/2017 20:11

Blast from the past ...SOAP! I’m so going out to buy some. Growing up we used Palmolive - haven’t even seen it in years. So do you need a bath scruntchy thing or do you just wash with your hands and soap. It’s been so long since I used soap I can’t honestly remember?? Confused

I love Coco Chanel perfume but I would hope at £19 a bar, that Chanel are using sustainable Palm oil in their soap!

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2017 20:18

I've just had a look on Amazon, all the soaps of yesteryear are there. Camay, Lux, Palmolive, Cidal, Lifebuoy, Wrights Original Coal Tar, Pears Original - soapy heaven!

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2017 20:18

Fenjal soap smells delicious too.

FoofFighter · 10/10/2017 20:19

Thanks for seasoning info Smile

I love the smells of the lush soaps but the shapes are too large and sharply angular, I can’t grip them properly

Orangeplastic · 10/10/2017 20:32

The shape of Lush soaps gives me the rage - the perfumes and colours couldn't be natural? Are they?

GaryGilmoresEyes · 10/10/2017 20:39

I have been soapy for the last few days. It's bloody amazing how clean I feel! I've been using an amazing tuberose bar from tkmaxx.

Ollivander84 · 10/10/2017 20:43

Foof - you can only buy a minimum of 100g of soap but after you've bought that, ask the staff and they will chop it up however you want. We used to have a guy that came in, bought a full circle of Karma soap and asked it to be cut into pie shaped slices

strawberryblondebint · 10/10/2017 20:51

After reading this thread I bought a bar of nesti dante soap from amazon. Reckoned it was worth the fiver. Well it bloody was. They sent me 8 bars and charged me for one. I smell fucking lush.

I've just added Moroccan rose soap from Waitrose to my shopping list!

troodiedoo · 10/10/2017 20:59

Bought some palmolive today, had a bath this afternoon and I feel squeaky clean Smile

Mrsmaudwatts · 10/10/2017 21:00

O.m.g. So simple but so effective!
