So is my perfume for old ladies?

ferriswheel · 01/10/2017 08:43

Following on from the other perfume thread I'm now questioning how old-lady my perfume is.

I love wearing Miracle by Lancome.

I'm trying to get myself back after having three small babies under the age of five and going through a traumatic divorce with an abusive partner.

Any other recommendations?

If you love it, crack on. I'm the OP of that thread and if I can wear Dermot O'Leary Bergamot and Basil, you'll be fine in Lancome!

ferriswheel · 01/10/2017 08:58

Oh thanks, is the Dermot one an aftershave?

It's marketed as being for men, but isn't overly masculine and the packaging is clean and fresh looking, so I would say it's very much unisex.

Oh god my favourite perfume ever is Lancôme miracle. I’ve been wearing it for years and I’m 29 Blush I’ve only ever been complimented on it.

ferriswheel · 01/10/2017 19:04

Thanks Jenni, I love Hypnose by Lancome too but Miracle is definitely my favourite.

I've been told Chanel Allure is for older more sophisticated women, That doesn't stop me wearing it and I am 26 Grin I love it, It is one of my favourites.

Paperdolly · 01/10/2017 19:42

I've some unopened Anais Anais. Should I open it or gift it forward?

ggirl · 01/10/2017 19:46

I love Anais Anais .
I did stop wearing chanel no 5 as my friend kept saying I smelled like her nasty MIL .

wear what you like OP

HippadoppaloppaGammeldag · 01/10/2017 19:58

If you are an old lady, so am I. I've recently purchased Guerlain Jicky!

AnyFucker · 01/10/2017 20:03

I love Miracle by Lancome.

It used to be my signature scent (bought by children for birthdays etc)

I haven't used it for a while but I absolutely would

BabCNesbitt · 01/10/2017 20:07

I love L'Heure Bleue by Guerlain, and it was created in 1912! As long as you're not suffocating people on the bus (helloooo, Mugler's Angel), wear what you like. (The 100yo perfume makes me think of Colette's novels and fin de siècle Paris; you don't get that wearing the latest candy-scented pop star promotional exercise.)

verystressedmum · 01/10/2017 20:07

I've been wearing Tresor by Lancôme for over 20 years since I was 19 I'm 42 now I love it and I'm sure it's old lady perfume but I don't really care Smile

LtGreggs · 01/10/2017 20:10

I love Anais Anais. I tried to move on, but missed it too much and asked for it for my birthday again last month Grin

TrojanWhore · 01/10/2017 20:13

Can you define 'old lady' in this context please?

And explain, if it is a perjorative ageist stereotype, why it is not a breach if the Equalties Act.

Casual ageism just isn't right, fair or necessary.

Wilburissomepig · 01/10/2017 20:16

I've just re-discovered Venezia by Laura Biagiotti, couldn't get it for years but I've never found another perfume that I love as much. Couldn't believe it when I found a bottle online so now I can immediately take myself back to Marbella circa 1997, which is where I was the first time I bought it! :)

PolkadottyRose · 01/10/2017 20:18

I sometimes wear Muglers Angel Eau du Sucree. I hope I haven't suffocated anyone!

Wilburissomepig · 01/10/2017 20:20

Oh FFS Whore, have you just been sitting waiting for something to be offended by?

Some may be offended by the word 'whore' in your user name, but that would be equally as ridiculous as trying to pick the OP up on something that quite clearly was not meant in the way you're trying to twist it.

CathyMedici · 01/10/2017 20:22

Trojan - makes a good point about ageism.

littlechou · 01/10/2017 20:27

Would it be better if it was said “a perfume for older ladies” rather than old?

I’m asking because I would say exactly what the OP said but I’m a snowflake and would hate to offend anyone intentionally or not! Grin

CoolCarrie · 01/10/2017 20:32

Op is not being ageism ffs! Surely we know what she means?

HeyRoly · 01/10/2017 20:36

I think "old lady" in relation to fragrance usually means something with aldehydes. I can't describe the note but it was popular in old school perfumes like Chanel No 5 (which I have) and Guerlain Mitsouko hence the association with grandmas.

Personally I've been training myself to appreciate frangrances beyond sweet florals now I'm the wrong side of 35 Grin

OP, if you love it, wear it. I wish I had a signature fragrance but I'm too fickle.

Floisme · 01/10/2017 20:45

What does it mean then?

Are you worried someone might smell your perfume and think you're 85?

Judydreamsofhorses · 01/10/2017 21:00

wilbur, god, I loved that around the same time! I think it would be too sweet for me now, but expect one whiff would take me right back to being at university.

SwedishEdith · 01/10/2017 21:04

I love Lancome perfumes. My favourite ever comment on an mn perfume thread was someone saying they'd "never wear perfume you could buy in Boots". Grin

Doilooklikeatourist · 01/10/2017 21:08

My current perfume of choice
Estée Lauder Private Collection , Tuberose and Gardenia
It’s lovely , I’m 57 , so probably an old lady 😀
