So is my perfume for old ladies?

Following on from the other perfume thread I'm now questioning how old-lady my perfume is.

I love wearing Miracle by Lancome.

I'm trying to get myself back after having three small babies under the age of five and going through a traumatic divorce with an abusive partner.

Any other recommendations?

If you love it, crack on. I'm the OP of that thread and if I can wear Dermot O'Leary Bergamot and Basil, you'll be fine in Lancome!

Oh thanks, is the Dermot one an aftershave?

It's marketed as being for men, but isn't overly masculine and the packaging is clean and fresh looking, so I would say it's very much unisex.

Oh god my favourite perfume ever is Lancôme miracle. I’ve been wearing it for years and I’m 29 I’ve only ever been complimented on it.

Thanks Jenni, I love Hypnose by Lancome too but Miracle is definitely my favourite.

I've been told Chanel Allure is for older more sophisticated women, That doesn't stop me wearing it and I am 26 I love it, It is one of my favourites.

I've some unopened Anais Anais. Should I open it or gift it forward?

I love L'Heure Bleue by Guerlain, and it was created in 1912! As long as you're not suffocating people on the bus (helloooo, Mugler's Angel), wear what you like. (The 100yo perfume makes me think of Colette's novels and fin de siècle Paris; you don't get that wearing the latest candy-scented pop star promotional exercise.)

I've been wearing Tresor by Lancôme for over 20 years since I was 19 I'm 42 now I love it and I'm sure it's old lady perfume but I don't really care

Casual ageism just isn't right, fair or necessary.

I've just re-discovered Venezia by Laura Biagiotti, couldn't get it for years but I've never found another perfume that I love as much. Couldn't believe it when I found a bottle online so now I can immediately take myself back to Marbella circa 1997, which is where I was the first time I bought it! :)

I sometimes wear Muglers Angel Eau du Sucree. I hope I haven't suffocated anyone!

I think "old lady" in relation to fragrance usually means something with aldehydes. I can't describe the note but it was popular in old school perfumes like Chanel No 5 (which I have) and Guerlain Mitsouko hence the association with grandmas.

Personally I've been training myself to appreciate frangrances beyond sweet florals now I'm the wrong side of 35

wilbur, god, I loved that around the same time! I think it would be too sweet for me now, but expect one whiff would take me right back to being at university.

I love Lancome perfumes. My favourite ever comment on an mn perfume thread was someone saying they'd "never wear perfume you could buy in Boots".
