So is my perfume for old ladies?

ferriswheel · 01/10/2017 08:43

Following on from the other perfume thread I'm now questioning how old-lady my perfume is.

I love wearing Miracle by Lancome.

I'm trying to get myself back after having three small babies under the age of five and going through a traumatic divorce with an abusive partner.

Any other recommendations?

Are you wearing beige polyester elasticated waist slacks, Trojan. Nowt wrong with them, after all, even if they are popular amongst my 78yo MIL's cohort. What do you mean they're not to your taste? How ageist.

My ex MIL (also 78) loves Tresor.

I hate pretty much all perfumes, these days.

BIWI I'm 51, so hardly in the first flush of youth, but I refuse to be offended by something so utterly ludicrous. However, if you're offended then fair enough I guess, it's not for me to tell someone what to find offensive. I can't be arsed to get worked up about an innocent remark (in my opinion) on a thread about perfume. Now, if someone was being deliberately unpleasant to me, or anyone else, because of age - I'd hand them their arse on a place, but I do not for a second believe that to be the case here.

Anyway, back to the perfume ...

I think it is a teeny tiny bit different, but I don't really care, I was so happy to get it. They also sell Roma on that website, which I also love!

ferriswheel · 01/10/2017 22:06

So is my perfume not stylish and trendy anymore?

Would that be a better thread title? But seeings as I'm divorcing my stbxh for emotional, mental and financial cruelty and I have three children under the age of five, the thread title is actually the least of my worries.

Thank you for your attention to detail, I look forward to having as much headspace as to be bothered by such minutia of information.

Thanks to all the other pp who have given me good auro about my aroma.

Wow.

ferret it's my fave B&S song!

suki the real Miss Dior - now called Originale - is fantastic, it was my first "proper" perfume as a teenager in the 90s and I still love it. The new versions which smell of candied fruits are just (to my tastes) vile and marketed at young girls.

Floisme · 01/10/2017 22:09

But why is such it a problem for some of you if old ladies like it too?

Because it clearly is.

You do know you can't catch old lady from perfume, don't you?
Or from shoes
Or hairdos
Or toilet seats
Or even bodily fluids.

The only way to catch it is by not dying.

Alien by Thierry mugged is the most gorgeous , feminine , sophisticated scent Iv ever smelt . I can't wear anything else now . Every time I wear it a new person asks me what perfume I have and says I smell lovely 😊 I literally cannot find another perfume to match up to alien .i love itv

Mumof41987 · 01/10/2017 22:15

Muggler grrrr darn phone (that's killed my post )

squoosh · 01/10/2017 22:16

Is Alien as 'punchy' as Angel? Because to me Angel is a chemical weapon.

jelliedeel · 01/10/2017 22:16

Thanks Wilburpig as I am now tempted to step back in time. I like Roma too but am saving up for some Yvresse.

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 01/10/2017 22:18

My day time at work scent is ck one. I love it and can't find anything else that is as fresh and as crisp.

That's probably a bit like having a beehive OP so I know where your fear comes from.

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 01/10/2017 22:20

Floisme, I"m older.......... so I'm not being ageist. I just think that fashions change and wonder (sometimes, idly) if wearing a scent that was very popular when I was 22 ages me! Or do people not pick up on that.

squoosh · 01/10/2017 22:21

I was wearing CK One when I lost my virginity. Whenever I sniff that it takes me right back.

Dizzybintess · 01/10/2017 22:22

I wear shalimar by guerlian!
I should be in my late 90s!

Dizzybintess · 01/10/2017 22:23

I also love boudoir by Vivienne Westwood

Floisme · 01/10/2017 22:25

AgS
What I asked - and what nobody has answered - is why are people are so worried about liking something that an old lady might like too?

What are you all scared of?
And please don't tell me you're not because you clearly are.

MorrisZapp · 01/10/2017 22:27

I'm glad to find this thread! The long running perfume thread might as well be in Flemish for all the sense it makes to me.

I stick to the same scents year in, year out but I've recently got a new love. Marc Jacobs Decadence, it's soooo warm and lovely. I just want to wear it every day in autumn. Ludicrous bottle but I could pop it in my sock drawer :)

3wayburger · 01/10/2017 22:28

I love a bit of Granny chic perfume op.
My favourite it Estée Lauder Beautiful.
My dad bought me some years ago.
Me and my grandma use to share the bottle.
I still love the smell.
It evokes so many memories.

LadyWithLapdog · 01/10/2017 22:28

Thanks for reminding me how much I used to love Venezia. I have both Chanel 5 and Anais Anais on the go at the moment. I try newer ones as well but often I go back to old favourites. Nothing wrong with that. And whoever guesses what I'm wearing is probably of the same vintage.

LadyWithLapdog · 01/10/2017 22:30

Dizzybintness - I loved Libertine by VW but that's also discontinued.

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 01/10/2017 22:30

Squoosh, Eau de Givenchy for me. But it's been discontinued along with my sex life!

BIWI · 01/10/2017 22:31

Well yes, @Wilburissomepig it is offensive actually. To be told that because of your age you should smell differently, or that the fragrance that you choose marks you out as something clearly undesirable.

Or, equally, that you shouldn't be wearing perfumes that 'the young folk' are wearing!

I wear what I like, what I think smells nice on me, etc. And that's how it should be for everyone.

WhataHexIgotinto · 01/10/2017 22:31

I love a bit of Granny chic perfume op.

Oh god, they'll be coming after you, pitchforks aloft, for that one ... 😁

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 01/10/2017 22:32

There's a lovely 'lady' perfume I remember so well from the 90s. A woman who was then near retirement age and it was called Jardin de Bagatelle. I love it. I smelt it the other day and was reminded of it. I want to buy it. It's lovely.

Dizzybintess · 01/10/2017 22:33

Libertine was stunning fair play xxx
