So is my perfume for old ladies?

Following on from the other perfume thread I'm now questioning how old-lady my perfume is.

I love wearing Miracle by Lancome.

I'm trying to get myself back after having three small babies under the age of five and going through a traumatic divorce with an abusive partner.

Any other recommendations?

For years I wore sunflowers until it started making me wheeze

Angel is awful ! Far too strong . Alien is such a different scent and a million miles from angel . It's gorgeous

Aria2015 · 01/10/2017 22:36

Aw please don’t say this is old lady perfume! It’s my fave too!!! It just smells so clean and fresh and I do get compliments about it so can’t all be me! Going to stand bold and say ‘if miracle perfume is for old ladies then I don’t want to be young!’ There! I said it! Stand with me - you smell lovely! Wink

What I did love when I was 14 was a perfume called "tribe " . I loved it and would love to get a bottle . Does anyone remember tribe from the 90s and is it still available ??

Have a look on perfume Parlour to see if they do it.

MorrisZapp · 01/10/2017 22:42

Did eau de Givenchy come in a plain rectangle bottle with a blue circular label? Light and fresh?

If it did, my dad bought me that when I was a young thing. I was aghast that he bought me perfume and was preparing to make a polite face but omg I loved it.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/10/2017 22:43

Yes they do,it's called Tribes for women and has 5 star reviews.

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 01/10/2017 22:43

oh I remember Tribe, by coty. It was nice, it smelt of watermelon or cucumber.

MorrisZapp · 01/10/2017 22:44

Have googled! Yes that's it!

biwi I don't think anyone is saying that. Perfume is such a personal thing, and everyone has different tastes - but in terms of marketing, most are targeted towards a particular group (which is often sometimes done by income in the case of very niche scents, but is often done by age) and that's what people tend to think of. I hate sweet floral fragrances, which tend to be marketed towards teens/young women, but I would still hate them if they were marketed specifically, personally, uniquely to me. Similarly, I have worn Mitsouko for many years, which is usually deemed a classic, older woman's fragrance - I'm 44 now and got my first bottle in my early 30s. One of my favourite scents is Lipstick Rose which is actually described as the smell of an old lady's handbag. I also dip in and out of men's fragrances, and, shock, I am a woman.

Mumof41987 · 01/10/2017 22:47

Thanks dame

BIWI · 01/10/2017 22:50

Judydreamsofhorses I work in marketing. And with the greatest respect to you, the OP's post was nothing about marketing.

I do, surprisingly, have an understanding of how brands are marketed at different demographic groups. But this was not what the OP was saying.

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 01/10/2017 22:55

I like men's fragrances too. Joop, Weekend for men.

Judydreamsofhorses · 01/10/2017 22:56

Fair dos, biwi, for what it's worth I am both a marketing lecturer and a fragrance nerd, and I maintain the OP meant no offence, but I am out on this one now.

Imstyledilemma · 01/10/2017 22:56

Liking old lady perfumes shows you have good taste and aren't gullible to have fallen for the cheap smelling, overpriced, overly sweet , no staying power, muck that's in the shops nowadays.

If you were to go on a proper perfume forum, you would be very surprised to find that a lot of people actually value the old lady perfumes, even some of the very young members. Those perfumes are known as classics
waves to any fragranticas on here

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 01/10/2017 22:58

MorrisZapp, Eau de Givenchy is still available if you have #100 to spare, but if not, try Burberry's Weekend for men. Not the woman's one. That is nothing like Eau de Givenchy but the weekend for men is the closest thing I've ever smelt.

Onthehighseas · 01/10/2017 23:01

AgSiopadoireachtAris

Eau de Givenchy is my all time favourite too. A few years ago they brought it back briefly in the US (I managed to get my hands on a bottle). You can still get teeny bottles here and here.

AdoraBell · 01/10/2017 23:03

Grin at never buy a perfume you could buy in Boots they sell loads of brands.

MorrisZapp · 01/10/2017 23:04

Oh god that's so weird that the stuff my dad got me all those years ago is now covetable! I loved it but I couldn't go back. Like I love The Smiths but somehow I just can't listen to them.

notacooldad · 01/10/2017 23:04

*What the fuck is an 'old lady' perfume?!
*
All those of you trying to justify this statement, just have a think

What on earth does that mean, beyond a simply offensive, ageist statement.

Please define, and give examples

I assume it is the aromatic equivalent of elasticated polyester trousers and beige cardigans and shies from hotter!
Not something the bright young things trend to wear but your great nan might!
