Calling all apples. What have you bought recently?

I'm trying to buy some new clothes but finding it impossible to find time or decide what I like.

Any other apple shapes care to share some wisdom about recent purchases which look nice? Ideally booby apples who are about a 12-14 and medium height! But any suggestions very gratefully received.

I asked this a few weeks ago and mostly got told to look at plus size places, which I'm ashamed to say knocked my confidence as i don't consider myself plus size although at the moment I am recently post partum so a bit bigger than normal though I admit this is a little pathetic.

Anyway hoping to get some inspiration from Apple shapes who have bought clothes recently

Huge thanks in advance

ThanksGrin, but my legs don't match the rest of me, focus on the tummy area! I have always felt like a misfit character, the ballerina with the spaceman maybe.

JuneFromBethesda · 23/09/2017 18:27

If anyone wants a bit of inspiration - have a look at Terrible Tumbles on Instagram (she has a blog of the same name). Her figure is similar to mine and she's a very stylish dresser (and has a great attitude too!)

SaltySeaBird · 24/09/2017 07:13

That Esprit dress is out of stock in all sizes - gutted as I thought it would have suited me and I find it very hard to find clothing.

I can't stretch my budget to Boden or Hush but any other dresses under £50 please share!

Maraki · 24/09/2017 07:40

Bought great black dress from M&S, VERY flattering to my ginormous tummy, good price too. Plan to wear it with long pendant abd knee length boots:

Salty there's an option on the Esprit website to get an email when something is back in stock - it's worth trying as I've managed to get things that were previously out of stock that way.

(I promise I don't work for Esprit!)

Appuskidu · 24/09/2017 09:55

I rather like the M+S black dress-what's the sizing like?!

Would you be able to brave posting a picture of you in it for us, Maraki??

MsLucyVanPelt · 26/09/2017 13:50

spitspot Just bought that H&M dress - it's ace. I wouldn't have expected something like that to work for me but it does - thanks!

NigellasGuest · 26/09/2017 22:29

I also bought the H&M dress - thank you! I've worn it twice in a week which is a lot for me so I must love it. I thought I was a 12 but it was sold out in a 12 so took a chance with a 10, which fits perfectly. We all know H&M sizing is all over the place!

DrizzleHair · 27/09/2017 20:21

I've tried the Hush Ivy dress on and it's not for me. I can see how it might be, the way it hangs sometimes gives a glimpse of a foxy curvy body shape, but in general I look like a giant sack.

Total length (medium) is 84.5cm.

I tried S and M on but neither looks good

Trying to post a photo but he my face first, can't do it! Plus I just realised the living room floor is covered in piles of washing and looks a huge state Blush

OP posts:
DrizzleHair · 27/09/2017 20:28

It looks so messy! That's the main reason I've hidden my face, out of shame for my living room.

I'll come back tomorrow and add a picture of the floor once the washing is cleared...

My black Hush Ivy dress has arrived-I absolutely love it!!

I am a 12-14 with quite big boobs and got the small-it's perfect, nice and tight on the arms which is flattering but skims over the lumpy tummy bit. Thank you to those who recommended it!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 28/09/2017 12:04

I bought this a couple of weeks ago. It's a really nice shape and I've been wearing it with a shirt and skinny jeans and biker boots. It's not a coat to wear for warmth but it adds a bit of smartness to any outfit. I'm a 12 and a 34E and bought it in medium for a nice fit that will allow room for a light cardigan underneath if needed. It's just been reduced too. I hope the link works https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-soutien-collar-coat-400701.html?dwvar4007011color=COL09&dwvar4007011size=SMA002&cgid=IDcollarless11410

The Esprit drawstring dress is back in stock www.esprit.co.uk/dresses/soft-fine-knit-dress-with-drawstring-097CC1E010_001 I just ordered it in black as I love my navy one so much. You get 10% off if you register for the newsletter. I need to step away from style and beauty as I've bought two dresses and a pair of Uggs following recommendations on here. I'm sitting on my hands to stop me from ordering the Hush dress.

WellTidy · 28/09/2017 12:49

Another vote for becca tops from phase eight. I have loads of them and a becca dress. Mine is a black drapey top and a blacksequin skirt (attached). Can't recommend them highly enough for apple shapes, they are wonderful. There are loads of becca tops in the phase eight website. They are not all exactly the same style. Some have a slightly ribbed waist as well as cuffs. I much prefer the slightly ribbed waist as it makes me look smaller than the completely drapery hem. I have the becca in pansy mix, olive, silver and grey marl from this season.

Also, the Christine top from phase eight is fab. It is basically the becca, but a narrower fit. The becca comes up big, but the Christine is true to size, and shorter (not short, just shorter). I bought it in dark green and grey last season and have bought the navy this season.

Appuskidu · 28/09/2017 13:28

What's the sizing like on the phase right becca tops? If I'm a 12/14 (with big boobs) though bought a small in the
Hush Ivy dress, what size should I go for??

RubbishMantra · 28/09/2017 14:20

I just took order of the Esprit dress that RickOShay has. I'm definitely keeping it. Nice slouchy fit, (sized up to make sure) and feels nice. Love it. Woolly tights in winter, and trainers in summer? Speaking of trainers, I got these also from Esprit.

Appuskidu, I'm a 16 on top and have the Becca in a large. It's a very roomy fit, not at all clingy, apart from the forearms (I've got a long sleeved one from a few seasons back). Slightly itchy though.

RubbishMantra · 28/09/2017 14:26

Oh, forgot to say, I bought a couple of pairs of Amies from Hush and let's just say I'm Mrs. Happy Pants. In fact I've ordered more! Basically I want to own all of the Amies in the whole of the land! They are incredibly flattering, and it feels like your legs are encased in some seriously luxurious fabric. Also got some harems coming, so am excited to see what those are like...

WellTidy · 28/09/2017 14:54

The becca tops are on the large side. I am a size 10 and buy a small for a really slouchy fit but would happily buy an extra small and still feel that it was loose enough. The cuffs on the extra small are a little tight, that's all. The Christine tops are true to size and less slouchy.

WellTidy · 28/09/2017 14:55

I should say that I wear a long sleeve top under the phase eight tops as I always feel cold.

Pinkkahori · 28/09/2017 15:39

Rubbish What size did you get in the Esprit dress?

RubbishMantra · 28/09/2017 21:36

I got it in Xl *Pink.

Cherrypie32 · 28/09/2017 22:09

I also agree about Becca tops and yes, I wear an M&S thermal long sleeve top in same colour underneath in winter. There's also a few of both casual and going out tops in similar shape as the Becca in the Mint Velvet sale. I've just bought this for night out

JuneFromBethesda · 11/10/2017 21:30

Reviving this thread to recommend the Oasis mock wrap dress - I have one from a few seasons back which is my failsafe smart option, great for work or any occasion really. Really forgiving and flattering cut. These ones are velvet, mine is a lighter fabric but it's the same cut so should do the job:

Long-sleeved wrap dress
Short-sleeved wrap dress

The waistline is quite high so sits at my narrowest bit and it skims over my tummy very obligingly Grin

AngelsWithSilverWings · 12/10/2017 07:48

I bought the M&S dress that was recommended and it is lovely and an absolute bargain too. It is very similar in quality and style to a Hush tunic dress I bought last year for lots more money! This will be worn and worn as it us very understated and different jewellery / shoes will make it look like a completely different dress.

Maraki · 12/10/2017 21:36

I'm glad you like it Angels it was me who recommended it. Going out tomorrow night and I plan to wear it with medium heeled knee length boots, black fishnets and a long silver pendant.
