Shit products - don't waste your money

A couple of times recently, I've been so flabbergastingly disappointed with a product, I've wanted to tell other people, to save them from the same pain. So I thought it might be useful for us to have a thread, where we could all share this stuff.

I'll start...

Charles Worthington Everyday Gentle Weightless Conditioner, which should be renamed Useless Conditioner. I had high hopes. It promises to stop fine hair from getting bogged down with heavy conditioner. The trouble is that it also doesn't condition or do basic detangling. My DP (who has a hearing problem) could hear my hair breaking when I was brushing it after using the conditioner. That bad.

Oh where do I start?

Clinique skincare except for City Block and the Take the Day Off Range - like their makeup as well

Benetint - echo the Aunt Sally comments! Also Hoola powder which makes me look as if I haven't washed.

Bare Minerals - Hello open pores I didn't know I had.

Any Garnier shampoo and conditioner

Elemis Pro Collagen Marine cream - made my skin drier and was £££ to boot.

And that's just for starters.....

Rainatnight · 27/08/2017 12:57

lynnmilne Oh no, poor you! Glad this is giving you some light relief. The ranting is very cathartic.

Back to my original post, it's only through this thread I've learned why the Useless Conditioner is so useless. No silicone. Won't be doing that again.

Agree with most of these (especially Clinique!) but Clarins beauty flash balm is the only thing that stops me looking like a freshly dug-up corpse! It's amazing stuff!

Does anyone know whether a refuge would take products that have been opened? Lots of things I have only used once but have never considered donating them.

LoniceraJaponica · 27/08/2017 13:54

The same products keep cropping up. It just goes to show how clever the manufacturers are at marketing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/08/2017 14:04

I like Benetint and Beauty Flash Balm. Have repurchased both several times.

cuirderussie · 27/08/2017 14:07

Pixi Glow. Useless- Nip and Fab is far better and cheaper.

Mac Ruby Woo - dry lips flaking - go for Rimmel instead.

I like Big Hair but I have terrible flyaway hair and just need a bit of an 'iron"

bakedbeansandtuna · 27/08/2017 14:24

Yes what can we do with stuff we don't want? I don't want Tobin things but it's not the sort of thing you give a charity shop.

Also quite underwhelmed with milk shake.

Juicylucy1800 · 27/08/2017 14:28

Aussie shampoos and conditioners are rubbish !

Double wear foundation , really don't get the hype !

GetOutOfMYGarden · 27/08/2017 14:32

reddit.com/r/makeupexchange if you want to sell things you hate!

IJustLostTheGame · 27/08/2017 14:36

Kylie jenner matt lip paint stuff.
It looks amazing for five minutes and then your lips look like those of a 100 year old who smokes 40 a day before flaking off in chunks.

hollyisalovelyname · 27/08/2017 14:45

Essie nail polish - awful brush and watery polish
OPI is better.
Sally Hansen nail polish brush is great.
Benefit Roller mascara cr*p.
Frizz Ease- it didn't
St Tropez daily- streaked and smelled awful.

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 27/08/2017 14:52

I often see the touch of silver range recommended, but I find it doesn't leave my hair feeling nice at all. Instead I use the violet tigi range which is much better.

I tried a benefit foundation once called h2o I think and it was awful - no coverage and too shiny. Similarly benefit dew the hoola is rubbish

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 27/08/2017 14:53

And imo batiste is the only dry shampoo worth bothering with. Tried other pricier ones but they have all been pants...

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 27/08/2017 14:59

I also think Liz Earle cleanse and polish is crap. I use ponds cold cream and a cheap flannel, then follow with rose water and glycerine from boots and Nivea creme. My acne prone sensitive skin is better than it ever has been and the products are dirt cheap. Love my retro skincare me! 😂

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 27/08/2017 15:00

All garnier products give me spots too! They are so harshly perfumed

Babyliss curl secret - I wanted it for years and I wanted to love it. But you have to have the exact amount of hair in the barrel for it to even try to curl it. Too much it won't even try, too little it will eat your hair. Just the right amount - meh, the curl lasts 5 minutes.

I have wanted one of these for ages, got one last week, cannot work the bloody thing out. Says you have to have the barrel facing your head which is ok for the front part of one side of my hair, after that, I feel like I am twisting my wrist all around and upside down to get it the right way, then I just get some kinked slightly wavy bit of hair that drops out after a few minutes. I am rather disappointed.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 27/08/2017 15:03

Touché eclat isn't a concealing pen, it is a highlighting/glow enhancing pen, so it will literally highlight your bags/undereye darkness. I think something went wrong when it came out and the majority of people got the wrong end of the stick. It was years before every man and his dog did a version and decades before highlighting was a 'thing' amongst non make up artists. It's no wonder we didn't get it and consequently, I think a lot of women hate it because it was 'miss-sold' to them.

CoolCarrie · 27/08/2017 15:04

L'Occitane , the perfumes smell wonderful... for 5 mins if your lucky then zilch, skincare overpriced and not great, the shampoos & conditioners are rubbish, handcreams are ok, candles are lovely, overall only I only buy the almond shower gel occasionally.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 27/08/2017 15:08

I love the l'occitane body milk stuff in a heavy glass jar. Ludicrously ££ though. I think the quality of L'Occitane dropped when they expanded the brand and opened a load of new shops.

DandelionAndBedrock · 27/08/2017 15:08

Nails Inc polish. Gloopy, thick, and chips almost instantly.

It took me a while to get my head around They're Real, but now I don't mind it. I'm not a proper convert (although the lash primer is FAB).

My big, big one is the Lancome Bi-Facils eye make up remover, not because it doesn't work (it is fabulous) but because after a few days of using it my eyes go all dry and scaly and awful. Stop, it clears up, I try again. Repeat until the end of the bottle.

CoolCarrie · 27/08/2017 15:10

Thank you for that link Maplessglobe, good to know that our mistakes can be used.

HappyAxolotl · 27/08/2017 15:10

MAC False Lash mascara. It looks great at first but just does not dry and smudges all over the place. I'm now using a £2.50 Primark one which looks just as good and doesn't smudge.

Any dry shampoo. The amount of effort it takes to get a brush through my hair, the amount of hair that pulls out, the mess it makes, the way I always miss a bit at the back... The time I'd spend faffing with it is probably more that it would take to give my hair a quick wash in the shower and blast with the dryer.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 27/08/2017 15:14

Dandelion have you tried rinsing your eyes after you've got the eye make up off with the bi-facils? I find that I have a reaction to micellar waters (similar thing oil&water) and it has been suggested that leaving it on the skin causes irritation. I just take my MU off (inc waterproof masc) with jojoba oil (or TTDO balm) and a muslin nowadays though. Binned the micellar. Pointless step.

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 27/08/2017 15:16

I should be 9 dpo. I have a clockwork 28day cycle.
