Well, summer barely happened so we're ready to pack away the shorts and the kaftans and get excited about boots, cosy knits and anything new and shiny.
We're often scared to link what we're lusting after for fear of lurkers buying it before we have the chance. So if you're a lurker, come and join us.
Carrying on from here

justa have a couple in mind........

Longislandicetee · 30/08/2017 22:21

So according to Selfridges:

The must own material is velvet. I can do this....There are some Prada velvet shoes that i am totally lusting after!

The key colour is red. (Great, i can bring out my red velvet jacket from the late 90s thenGrin)

The print of the season is tartan. I remember many a debate on here with Mignonette, a poster who used to be on these threads, about tartan, the last time they were "in". Wonder if i will fold this time around??

The big statement is structural shapes - no chance you need to be Shop's height and about half my size to pull that look off!

The key influence is luxury streetwear - doesn't appeal to me!

The updated classic is the tux - can't see me doing this one either.

The hero item is the robe dress. Hhhmm no. Too worried about boobage.

So i think it's classics or red or velvet for me as the rest of it is a write off for me!

I haven't been out much in the last few weeks - holiday and then working from home this week, but my little corner of the world doesn't really "do" trendy. I definitely have safety in numbers!!Grin

shopafrolic · 30/08/2017 22:23

One sounds tough. You've been through so much. I'm sorry that you didn't get the treatment in time but hope they can help you manage your pain.
I haven't opened links yet.
Blair a real mix here. I live in a tiny village - schoolgate style is very varied, from dog walkers, horse riders, gym gear to full on glammed up working mums. Nearest large towns are very wealthy, average car is a huge 4x4 and Porsches and Ferraris are common place so lots more designer bags and surgically assisted faces Grin
The main problem is that all the stylish women with more money to spend look the same as there is only one major on trend store that the majority shop at (The Dressing Room).

shopafrolic · 30/08/2017 22:25

I'll take the red, the structural shapes, the lux Street wear and the tux then Blingy - happy to helpWink

DryWhiteagainW · 30/08/2017 22:46

Hmm Blingy, tartan works for me in accessories only, maybe I will bring my VW handbag out.

Love velvet but Dh has a big problem with it, makes him feel weird.

Love red though.

TheMightyMing · 30/08/2017 22:47

Popped into Zara today, I always like the styles though imo the quality sometimes lets it down. Still not worked links but I had a little lust after a feather trimmed tulle bodysuit which I would wear teamed with black jeans and my cropped sleeve Baukjen leather blazerwith the feathers poking out the sleeves Would definitely have Mr Ming rolling his eyes and calling me mutton though. I'm 46 and rising and he sometimes questions some of my outlandish purchases. I never listen though! Might pop back Friday and try it on. :)

I put a picture on whilst I work in the links thing....

BitofaPoorEffort · 30/08/2017 23:29

Sorry to sidle in...but felt I must alert others

I'm quite new to mumsnet. Earlier I read lots of troubling posts about how the site is now full of vile trolls who will try to swindle me. So I reverted back to reading S and B and occasionally looking at cats but I'm on high alert...

And my spidey senses are very troubled by you blingy, giving people cashmere scarves to lure them into a nefarious scheme no doubt...

Wink

Seriously, what a heartening example of...well, people just being nice to each other. Cheers to that and you all!

shopafrolic · 30/08/2017 23:32

Bitofa welcome. That's how she operates. Lures you in with promises of cashmere, the next thing you know she's telling you what fab legs you have and plying you with fizz - I feel abused Grin

queencerulean · 31/08/2017 08:26

yeah, blingy is definitely dodgy Grin
Welcome bitofa

I'll just stick to velvet. Although it's hardly groundbreaking-they say velvet is in every year!
stokey I think I'm going near Dalston next weekend (am I right in thinking it's near shoreditch?). Looking forward to visiting a new area.
shop I'm surprised that DR hasn't got more competition then if it's the only decent shop there.

OP posts:
Longislandicetee · 31/08/2017 08:31

Awww that's very kind of you Bitofa. You're right though I am sure that on a different thread I would be accused of being a troll Grin. Welcome and do stay, as you saw from yesterday's chat, everyone is lovely and we love chatting about pretty things whether it's high street or high end.

Ha Shop! In my defence at our last MU, you were wearing a mini dress and flashing those lovely legs of yours at me. You were lucky to escape. Grin.

shopafrolic · 31/08/2017 08:33

QueenC There are other independents there, just much smaller scale and more MMF type brands.
I don't suit a lot of what they sell in DR - tend to buy jeans and tees there (they are a huge AV stockist) but not much else as I don't suit a lot of the more boho / floral stuff.
The city itself is great for other brands though - French Connection, Whistles, Reiss, Jigsaw, Kurt Geiger, Office, Schuh as well as all the main high street contenders. I still prefer Regent's Street though to find brands like COS and &OS which are much more suited to me.

shopafrolic · 31/08/2017 08:33

And I didn't even mention the boobs Blingy Grin

queencerulean · 31/08/2017 08:36

I've just browsed at DR and it is very me and lots I'm lusting after. I am v close to spending £84....

DryWhiteagainW · 31/08/2017 08:55

Bitofa Grin you must stay that was very funny........and wait till she buys bling then looses it it's better than any soap!

I'm happy......have a big birthday party to go to in October, need to find out the dress code, but I fancy a new party dress, perhaps I'll try midi with a nipped in waist.

Had a quick browse of the Arket website last night and I really like the natural fibres and minimalism of the stuff, real basics although it does look cut for taller women.

DryWhiteagainW · 31/08/2017 09:06

Starting my Autumn purchases with these practical-but-unnecessary-in-August-knee boots for work. Liked the slightly higher heel.

kittyhello · 31/08/2017 09:20

Popping in poolside Grin wifi keeps dropping out so can't open all your lovely links.

Lib really sorry but I'm still a maybe, we don't get back till late next week so need to see how shattered I am.

Welcome Ming

I need to update my holiday wardrobe for next year. I need more floaty kaftan type clothing for wafting around. Grin

One Flowers

DryWhiteagainW · 31/08/2017 13:22

And this dress for work

shopafrolic · 31/08/2017 13:38

It is very you QueenC which is probably why it isn't very me - our styles are so different. Talking of which.....LOVE

shopafrolic · 31/08/2017 14:10

The Dressing Room lookboom
I do want a Rockins scarf....

shopafrolic · 31/08/2017 14:10

Look BOOK

BitofaPoorEffort · 31/08/2017 18:05

Oh thank you for the lovely welcome!

I'll be back! I love this time of year, looking forward to getting my black opaques and boots out. And definitely buying a new coat this year so watching for others' choices there.

maradesbois · 31/08/2017 20:36

Hello all,

Welcome to Ming and Bitofa, pls stick around!

One Flowers hope the clinic can get it under control for you, have heard great things about some of these places.

Blair like your question! Round our way it is quite stealth luxe, school mums are mainly on trend fairly casual like good jeans and trainers, lots of Céline and goyard bags, natural looking hair and makeup, no obvious surgical interventions. Locals are mix of the above and more classic verging on sloaney eg ballet flats and longchamp bags. I like it, much more my style than my home city which is much more full on in a tribal way but fun to observe!

maradesbois · 31/08/2017 20:47

Dry Autumn party dress search sounds like fun, all those rich colours and fabrics to choose from although guess velvet is out.

justa happy anniversary! Thought of you yesterday when I saw a woman with black half moon bag. I was thinking about getting the Genève bag purely for ease of hand entry but there is something so nice about the half moon form, design purism!

Blingy you are obvs so on trend with the Chloé block heels as I have them too Grin. Grr at holidaying neighbour, btw nap refunded me in full for my bin debacle. They were so helpful, sourced the shirt I had ordered in the US and offered to organise shipment but had gone off it after all the faff.

Waves to Shop, glad to see you back on here.

For autumn I really want the Gucci bee trainers I linked a few weeks ago and apc mac. Would also like some knee high boots to wear with midi skirts. Again Apc does a lovely pair but know I can't have it all at £££. Also love the trend for slightly oversized tweed blazers. The perfect one (for me) came on Outnet this morning but I dithered and missed it. Could see it was selling out fast but hate the pressure to click.

justasecond · 31/08/2017 22:26

I really like the geneve style mara hadn't seen that before. I want the blue grey one now! As I have said before, despite it's limitations I do love the half moon. Was it the IM Etoile blazer on the outnet? shame you missed it. Love the Gucci bee trainers too.

I have struck gold on ebay. After years of searching for the perfect trench I found this new in my size www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/505799/joseph/townsend-cotton-twill-trench-coat It was linked ages ago by cranagh and I loved it then but too £££ for me full price. It's the perfect shade of beige and perfect fit and length. The shoulders are good for me too as a lot of trenches have raglan shoulders which emphasise my not having any!

Have also bought this jumper from Arket with 20%
off www.arket.com/en_gbp/productpage.0549426002.html its a lovely coral red which is flattering for my skin
