Ok so I'm on holiday at the moment and am wearing my Fit Flops. I have worn these in for weeks and they have still given me blisters.
I am thinking of getting some Merrells. What do we think? Are they ok or are they really awful? Honest answers please. I don't want to look like a saddo. Here are the ones I am considering.

A young looking 52. I'm 58 and probably look it. However, I look after myself and would say that I am a "well preserved" 58 Grin

Trills · 21/07/2017 09:07

What 52 "looks like" (and similarly what 58 looks like) is a range, not a single point.

Didiusfalco · 21/07/2017 09:16

Op, you look great - for 52 or any age. Buy the comfy shoes, you will pull them off, then forget about your feet and have a great holiday.

whyhastherumgone · 21/07/2017 09:18

Op you have sent me into a sadness spiral - I am 32 and you look WAY better than me. Please tell me you exercise 24-7, never eat sugar etc etc Grin

Have you looked at Saltwater sandals? Some people think they're quite fugly too but I love mine, and I think with your look you could pull them off easily and look great.

woodhill · 21/07/2017 09:19

Look fine to me. I've lived in my naturaliser sandals this Summer.

I'm near your age and I want to be comfortable

Oblomov17 · 21/07/2017 09:58

You are far too good looking to wear those fuck boring sandals. You need something glitzy to wear with your lovely silver top, whilst drinking wine!!

TSSDNCOP · 21/07/2017 10:06

Those shoes will age you the second you put them on. They are the shoe equivalent of a Phase 8 clothes. You look amazing!!!

Arealhumanbeing · 21/07/2017 10:15

Don't buy anything you don't love.

You're really not sure so they would be a waste of money.

I would go for Birkenstocks as long as you like them. They don't look fugly on some people and you look like one of them!

Alternatively you could get some compeed blister plasters and stick it out with your fitflops?

annoyedand · 21/07/2017 14:16

There Horid my nana would have worn them at 90
You're an attractive women please
Don't ..

JanetStWalker · 21/07/2017 14:42

Christ, they're hideous. Step away from the fugliness!

LoniceraJaponica · 21/07/2017 16:46

IMO someone walking confidently in comfortable shooes looks far better than someone teetering or limping in unsuitable or uncomfortable shoes.

ggirl · 21/07/2017 16:52

get them , you'll look good in them , but not pink

d270r0 · 21/07/2017 16:57

I am 33 and like the merrells- in fact I own a similar pair myself, but green.

YolandasFridge · 21/07/2017 17:32

OP you are gorgeous!! You look about 28, please do not buy those hideous granny sandals they will age you 40 years! Im 41 and my mum wouldn't even wear them and she's 80.

Try Birkenstock (Madrid only ) in white or baby pink
Or
Palmiras style Majorcan sandals
Or
Any kind of espadrille

YolandasFridge · 21/07/2017 17:37

These are much more suited to your Scandinavian chic style!

VilootShesCute · 21/07/2017 18:02

Saltwater sandals. So comfy 👍

LoniceraJaponica · 21/07/2017 18:07

IMO those are awful YolandasFridge, and not very practical for walking around.

APaperMe · 21/07/2017 18:14

I find my saltwater sandals more comfortable than my merrel walking boots! And you can go in water with them, it doesn't ruin them and they dry so fast. I have them in three colours, I'm really fussy about comfortable shoes!

woodhill · 21/07/2017 18:16

The Birkenstock sandals do not support the back of your foot.

I think it is important to wear footwear that is supportive as we get older.

Acornantics · 21/07/2017 18:21

Birkenstocks aren't great to walk distances in and are expensive for what they are, plus I think they're a bit...unimaginative.

Merrell sandals are brilliantly made, supportive, perfect for city streets and country walks. I have a pair in brown leather and they're fantastic with summer shorts, skirts, linen trousers, jeans, whatever.

HesterGreysGarden · 21/07/2017 18:30

OP a row of your personal photos comes up under the second photo - just in case you're not ok with that.

Really impressed by the link to the flatform tevas (not sure who posted it). Teva have really upped their game since I bought mine many years ago. Most comfortable sandals I've ever owned. Great even for hillwalking in the good weather.

LoniceraJaponica · 21/07/2017 18:46

I have had my Earth Spirit sandals for 4 years and they are still going strong. I live in Yorkshire so they don't get the chance to wear out as they only get worn a few times a year.

Hippychickster · 21/07/2017 19:10

Ooh Hester I can't see that. Just the pic. How would I get rid of them?

I love how different the responses are! Some people saying they are great, and others that they are fugly 😂😂 Mumsnet at its best!

Op, do you know what? You are gorgeous and to be quite honest the sandals ain't. BUT I think you can rock them!

I have a really really beautiful friend - she has an amazing wardrobe and always looks really stylish. I was out shopping with her one day feeling like the ugly mate and we went into Clark's where she started to admire a pair of shoes that my late Grandma would have been proud of. She tried them on and they transformed on her feet and looked amazing Confused.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/07/2017 20:19

Yes, get the pink ones, very comfy.
You look fantastic OP ! 😀
