Ok so I'm on holiday at the moment and am wearing my Fit Flops. I have worn these in for weeks and they have still given me blisters.
I am thinking of getting some Merrells. What do we think? Are they ok or are they really awful? Honest answers please. I don't want to look like a saddo. Here are the ones I am considering.

I don't like the clip. It makes them look like children's shoes. I have these and I love them, sparkly and comfy!

I've got the pink ones. They are dead comfy and great for running after the boys. They're very casual though so I won't be wearing them to work.

Mustbeoriginal38 · 20/07/2017 22:12

*clarifying that "the boys" are my children. I'm not some toyboy chasing cougar....Yet!!

Screamer1 · 20/07/2017 22:19

You look ace. Birkenstocks fashionable now. White ones would look nice on you.

DeadGood · 20/07/2017 22:19

I'm off to plait my hair just like the OP, in the hope that it wipes 25 years of my age too.

tearsinmyeyes · 20/07/2017 22:39

Those sandals made me giggle . Hideous .
You look amazing . For 52 or any age .
Birkenstocks are a much better looking shoe and comfy .

kittapie · 20/07/2017 22:47

Sorry OP, don't really like the shoes. But you are one gorgeous lady! I would never have guessed you were 52!!! Shock

user1457213512 · 20/07/2017 22:57

Look like something great aunt Maude would wear. Get something nicer, you're too glamorous for those!

36plusandtrying · 20/07/2017 23:01

The shoes are horrific you however are absolutely stunning ! What's your secret for looking so good ! Smile

BluebellGal · 20/07/2017 23:03

oh no, they are not very nice

nancy75 · 20/07/2017 23:05

Op you look great, in all honesty I've yet to meet a person old enough & frumpy enough to suit those shoes, they are hideous

BumWad · 20/07/2017 23:09

I have an old pair of merrell sandals. They are great for walking holidays etc.

I'm 34 (and look much younger honest)

livefrommysofa · 20/07/2017 23:12

You could try saltwater sandals. Very comfy and very on trend at the min. Check out their Instagram pics to get an idea

LexieLulu · 20/07/2017 23:13

I bought my first pair of birkenstocks at 25. I go for the thong style. I don't think they look awful but they are ridiculously comfy!

AgentCooper · 20/07/2017 23:13

I'm 31 and have a pair of grey Regatta Active sandals which look v much like those and you know what? I fucking LOVE them. I didn't get on with FitFlops either, they ripped my feet to shreds.

Yes, my sandals are pretty frumpy but the rest of me's not and nor is the rest of you, so just you get whatever is comfiest.

LoniceraJaponica · 20/07/2017 23:15

I wear Earth Spirit sandals. On a hot day my foot comfort is far more important than public opinion. I find Birkenstocks hideous BTW.

TheFaerieQueene · 20/07/2017 23:17

What about Tiva?

I have a pair of the flatforms and can walk miles in them.

Mummamayhem · 20/07/2017 23:18

Just to echo what a lot have said, those sandals are hideous! But you are definitely not!

buckeejit · 20/07/2017 23:31

What fitfllops have you?

I have leather toepost skinnies & have worn them non stop for 2 months. Really recommend them

SerfTerf · 20/07/2017 23:33

Forget the sandals (they're fine). Post your skincare regime IN FINE DETAIL please Smile

PrimalLass · 20/07/2017 23:41

I got a Clarks pair that have a similar sole but are a bit more 'on trend' (yuk, horrible term, but they a bit 'sports luxe'). Nicer in reality than in the pics. Should probably have just bought more Birks though.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and lovely compliments! I fell asleep last night so have only just seen them.

I've got 2 pairs of Fit Flops and one pair are really comfortable, but I brought the newest pair with me (I'm wearing them on the first picture and you can see the blister plaster 😳).

I'm now going to have a look at all your suggestions and see if I can find any I like more. But if I WERE going to get the Merrells I'm thinking the pink ones are slightly more acceptable.

Thanks again everyone. It's good to get some perspective!!

Birkenstocks are very trendy at the moment in that I'm-so-gorgeous-and-glamorous-I-can-wear-any-old-shoe way, so while they are practical and ugly, they won't look frumpy on you.

Hope you find a lovely pair!

LoniceraJaponica · 21/07/2017 08:45

Regardless of how trendy they are I still think Birkenstocks are hideous and frumpy. I wear shoes for comfort, not fashion as I walk a lot, especially on holiday.

Trills · 21/07/2017 08:56

You do look 52.

People who say you don't, are saying that in their heads 52 year olds look "old".

I like the colour of the pink ones but the shape of the blue ones better, but they are both nice. They don't look like full-on "walking sandals" as if you think you're going to be going up a mountain in the Lake District.

With the outfit in your picture (white top, denim skirt) some bright flat sandals will look nice and fresh. And having them be slightly technical will make you FEEL more fresh and bouncy than you would otherwise.
