Anyone else think that on holiday women always look better in bikinis?

I've seen so many posts on here from women anxious about what they will look like on holiday or if they're too fat/old etc to wear a bikini.

On holiday just now and it struck me round the pool that it doesn't matter how different everyone's bodies are bikinis are always much more flattering than a one piece.

There's women with huge post children tummies (me) women who are flat chested or have scars or stretch marks and no-one bats an eyelid.

Obviously if people choose to wear one pieces that's their choice but apart from one lady who's totally rocking a 50's style skirted suit complete with red lippy the other few in one pieces seem to be trying to go unnoticed but having the total opposite effect especially the ones sitting in the pool with sarongs and bits of fabric wrapped round them.

Hope I don't offend anyone with this post as obviously it's everyone's personal choice but just wondered if anyone's ever actually looked at someone in a bikini and thought "bloody hell they shouldn't have that on"

Scrumpington "a bit shit" is drama queen? ODFOD. I was merely pointing out that perhaps people shouldn't judge why someone is wearing a one piece. I would look perfectly good in a bikini but as I have chosen a one piece apparently people think I'm not confident and have body hang ups?Couldn't be further from the truth.

Yeah I think it is a bit drama queeny to be so affected by the OP's really quite mild opinion. I read loads of disparaging comments on the S&B board about things I own. But so what? One person having a negative opinion about an item of clothing I like makes no difference to me.

I also think it's quite oversensitive to allow this thread to make you feel shit about your swimming costume. Surely you don't expect everyone to like everything you wear? I wear leggings 50% of the time and they get a right bashing on here, but I've never taken it personally or felt shit. Somebody somewhere is always going to dislike your clothes, but it doesn't matter!

I also think it's perfectly ordinary to notice and have opinions on what people around you are wearing, by the way. It's nothing new. I can't believe people are acting dumbfounded at the thought of seeing what other people wear on the beach. Human beings observe the trends and behaviours within their surroundings.

While I'm at it I'm sure men do this to an extent. Very few British men can be seen in speedos or a thong on the beach. Whether they discuss it isn't really relevant. Some men give a shit how they look, others don't. Same with women.

bonfireheart · 10/07/2017 12:43

I wear what I wear at the beach for comfort for it to be "flattering" on my figure. And if I stand out to you then that's your issue.

woollychimp · 10/07/2017 13:07

I tend to think that it's mainly women with good figures who wear bikinis, so whilst most women look great in them but they are a self-selecting group.

  • I would certainly look shit wearing one and haven't done so since the age of 7.

I prefer a one-piece with a sarong if i'm not in the sea. If i could find a decent tankini that was long enough and didn't show any of my belly (I have a long body) I'd happily wear that.

As my fellow Woolly says most men are better off out of speedos on thongs...

Therealslimshady1 · 10/07/2017 13:09

I know what you mean OP

Still, I often wear a one piece as I have about 5, as I swim in the leisure centre twice a week

I end up wearing them to the beach too, as I like to avoid wardrobe malfunctions in the waves/body boarding

Bikinis look nice, but are not as secure (unless you wear a rash vest over them) if you are active in the water (rather than lounging by the pool)

It's sportswear for me, rather than fashion Grin

woollychimp · 10/07/2017 13:09

...by which i mean wearing long swimming shorts. not that i want all men to be naked Grin

BusterGonad · 10/07/2017 15:15

I think most people look better in a bikini, I think a one piece turns your figure into a big block of colour/pattern and somehow makes you look bigger. Tankinis can look quite nice and for me personally board shorts are a style no no! BUT people should wear what makes them happy, my figure isn't the best (or the worst) but I would feel a bit frumpy in anything other than a bikini. Each to their own though.

Jesus, I said a bit shit. If someone thinks that's being a drama queen they need to get out more.

neveradullmoment99 · 10/07/2017 22:23

Well maybe not everyone...yikes!
