I dont know what blood group I am, despite having been under Haematology for well over 10 years

herbaceous · 21/07/2017 11:45

I'm torn about the blood group diet. One part of me thinks it must a load of bunkum, but I just read the website and a lot of what is says about type O is true of me - prone to acid stomach, grains cause inflammation (I can't deal with wheat), and exercise makes them much saner. However, this is general good dietary and health advice for everyone, so... maybe bunkum.

OP posts:
MsMartini · 21/07/2017 12:38

It is bunkum, Herbs (author renowned for all the wrong reasons), scientifically speaking. Which is not to say that if it happens to come up with a healthy plan it won't work!

MsMartini · 21/07/2017 13:10

The benefits are independent of blood type but there are some benefits (I don't know how they compare with other "healthy" ways of eating) journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0084749

Awake very early today, feeling like a washed out rag now and have to don NBC suit and enter dd's bedroom...please think of me

Rosenspants · 21/07/2017 13:41

MsM send up a flare if you start to drown in there Grin. I gave up on DS1s room eventually. He then got fed up and heaped all the crap into a corner which became known as the corner of shame. At least the cleaner could clean around it iyswim. He keeps his flat pristine...weirdly. And it doesn't smell....
I have never heard of the blood group diet but if it means one eats less and moves more...well it'll guarantee some weight loss, I expect. Funnily enough, Herbs I am an O as well, which is strange as both my parents are the somewhat rarer B... (!) although I think there might be a recessive element which would explain that. (I bloody hope so) Anyway, I suffer from those complaints too... but I have to give into the bread craving every now and then, like yesterday...but I always suffer after. I was glad to be alone at the flat that everning Grin Blush

Watch wise I still don't know what to do. I am wistful about the Timex I had as a younger person, which was old fashioned clockwork that you wound by hand. It never let me down...the only problem was if it was overwound...and then you took it to a little man who mended watches and it came back as good as new. What become of Timex?

So Herbs are you up for Tues MU?

Rosenspants · 21/07/2017 15:23

Interesting

Rosenspants · 21/07/2017 15:24

Link fail. Timex do a customisation service... and they use Swarovski crystal in their dress watches...

NoCureForLove · 21/07/2017 15:29

here Rosen!

I have a fab Timex.

MsMartini · 21/07/2017 16:36

Rose, O only expressed if neither A nor B present - BplusB makes O or B, all's well. Grin

Are you going to go for a Timex then?

I ran away from dd's bedroom to go sports bra shopping after a serious malfunction last night (I had to rescue myself with scissors).

hattymattie · 21/07/2017 18:39

First half of today nice with meet up with friend. Second half of the day went to La Defense with DS who said he needed more shorts - they weren't available in his normal shop so he had to go into another men's shop where he picked a pair off the pile and said they'd do. I asked him to try them on to which he said no and then he'd probably never wear them anyway. I pointed out that I'd come all the way here for him and that I did not want to traipse back with them just because he couldn't be bothered to try them. Much eye rolling and muttering.

Honestly, he is like a dementor - I sent him off home with said shorts and felt much happier continuing shopping alone. Also he talks in a flat monotone sort of voice which drives me mental - some intonation would be good.

OK - rant about teenagers over - in his favour - he's not smelly and neither is his bedroom.

NoCureForLove · 21/07/2017 19:12

Remind me how old he is now Hatty?

hattymattie · 21/07/2017 20:27

He's just turned 15 so full adolescence I expect. In fairness he's come down and given me a hug so he know's he's been horrid.

Cremolafoam · 21/07/2017 21:02

Poor you Hatty. That's very annoying. I expect he's trying to grow into himself, and finds shopping with Mum cringeworthy and m'barressing. BlushBlushBlush
Did you get anything nice for yourself?

Ahh Timex makes me think of my first watch too. Navy strap, white face, big numerals.
I think that's why I like the Mondaine ones.

Cremolafoam · 21/07/2017 21:04

This one exactly

Crepey coalition of chaos
NoCureForLove · 21/07/2017 22:37

Some of those Timex watches are lovely - especially the plainer men's one imo - and pretty bargainous too.

Hate, I think 15 is about peak teen awfulness for boys. Everything's embarrassing and they're very grunty and grumpy... then they improve.

herbaceous · 21/07/2017 22:51

I've been trying to find a picture of the times watch Everyone had in my schooldays. Plain face, numbers not Roman numerals, and a red strap with holes in.

OP posts:
herbaceous · 21/07/2017 22:55

Timex. Thank you autocorrect.

OP posts:
IDismyname · 22/07/2017 06:55

Wow. I really really like the Timex watches. Like most of you, my first watch was a Timex. Oh happy days.

In diet news, I am an A - so no red meat at all, and limited chicken or turkey. Lots of fish. Mainly vegetarian diet, but most grains OK. Most fruit good, too. Dairy ok-ish especially anything cultured such as kefir. Oh, and soy is supposedly a real benefit. Will stick with soy sauce, but tofu can get stuffed. Bleugh!

I was pretty much a vegetarian as a student. It was much cheaper that way.

His definition of the kind of traits various blood types have is astonishing. I read my definition with my jaw on the floor.

Auriga · 22/07/2017 07:08

Crem, the Tissot watch is exactly what DD was looking for but couldn't find a couple of years ago. Have bought it for her as a 'well done on your A levels' present. Thanks a million.

hattymattie · 22/07/2017 08:10

Very nice watch Crem.

Love steaks too much to give up red meat. I just try to be sensible and eat fresh food and not things with lots of fat and additives.

Just learnt that the DS of a friend of mine has Crohns disease - he is 14 poor love.

Rosenspants · 22/07/2017 09:09

Oh that's awful, Hatty. Hope they can get it under control.

I am in consultation with DH about the watch...and we are. It's looking at Timex, especially the custom designed ones. After all it was east to be an anniversary present to me from him. He'd love to just say....you get what you want and put it on the card but ....Hmm

gosh Crem that original Timex reminds me so much of my childhood.

I am having a back massage and mango treatment thingy this morning, and then have plans for more seafront based resting, shopping...and at some point, I really must start getting the flat ready for when we all come down next week. However I have not yet got up...Blush

Rosenspants · 22/07/2017 09:11

Blimey is it my imagination or has autocorrect stepped up recently.

Cremolafoam · 22/07/2017 09:34

I certainly seem to be spending more time correcting autocorrect these days. Bloody nuisance.
Auriga that's great! Rosen, carry on lolling.!
I plan to go to Pilates and later go for a long walk to my favorite plantsman and nursery owner. He is 97 and his brother, who does the till, was 100 this year. They have 3 giant greenhouses and plant on nearly all seedlings themselves ( I think there is a granddaughter of 60 odd who helps out). It's like the land that time forgot. Every single plant and tree is healthy, well watered and fresh looking.

The watch I had at University was this Swatch , for nostalgia hunters:Smile

I have just completed the first day of week 4 of couch to 5K. It involved running for 16 minutes! Not all at once, but in chunks of three and five minutes. And I did it. I haven't run for five minutes since school, and am not sure I could even do it then. I almost cried with pride when I finished.

I may reward myself with a proper sports bra and running clothes, rather than the ill-fitting collection of cheap crap I wear at the moment. I've got good shoes, though...

Where's good for proper sports bras, massively reduced?

OP posts:
MsMartini · 22/07/2017 13:53

Herbs, that is fantastic! Sports bras - I like M and S front-loaders and they have some half price in Oxford Circus at the moment. I think having proper kit is very motivating. I am just back from gym and was used as example of crepey woman who can do full press-ups...would not have happened a year ago so I am very pleased too.

Crem, that sounds like such a wonderful set-up...how uplifting.

Rosen, enjoy. Mango treatment?
