Auriga, how devastating for the family and sad for you. My heart goes out to you all.💜

IDismyname · 30/06/2017 07:38

Auriga I can't imagine how hard losing a twin is. Life is so so cruel Flowers

IDismyname · 30/06/2017 07:42

In Birthday news, I had a quiet day and then supper with DH in our local. Nothing v special- which was fine by me. Last years Birthday had a zero in it, so cue a summer of mini celebrations.

I'm so touched by my cards, though. I spend most of the year thinking that I don't have many friends. I obviously do.

I am crap at remembering birthdays so I must make more effort.

MsMartini · 30/06/2017 08:09

MM, lovely to see you back (and quite understand about being good to take a break sometimes). The tennis sounds excellent! I used to go to Wimbledon when I was at school and lurk outside so Americans gave me their tickets for evening matches as they went back for hotel dinners. I had terrible hay fever and saw Connors play while sneezing something like 47 times. He just have hated me.

Auriga · 30/06/2017 12:04

Congratulations on your bouncing baby grandson NUFC. Always happy to hear good baby news. I've been sadder than usual about my own losses recently as it truly sinks in that DD is about to leave home & my nest will be empty.

I've written the hardest-ever letter to my friend & wrapped up the baby books I'd bought for when they were due to come & stay with us next week Sad

Cremolafoam · 30/06/2017 12:48

Oh Auriga how touching.Sad

Quite memorably i went to Wimbledon after my olevels ( part of an incredible trip to London where i saw Nureyev dance, the RSC do The Tempest etc) at Wimbledon we had debenture seats and I sat beside Eric Morecambe for Lendl v McEnroe. EM was hilarious throughout.

herbaceous · 30/06/2017 13:21

Auriga - I have that a little when people talk about their youngest going to school, and how sad they are. I find it hard not to think 'well at least yours are actually here'. And similar uncharitable thoughts.

Talking of PFBs, (or POBs), I'm feeling guilty about dragging DS away from his beloved choir if we move to Broadstairs. He's got so into it, and there doesn't seem to be anything similar in B. The only similar set up is in Canterbury, but would involve a 40-minute drive each way three times a week... He also says he doesn't want to leave his friends, which admittedly are lovely. He's had the same group of schoolfriends for three years.

I know that in the long run it will be fine, but he (and I) need convincing.

Herbs, it may help you to reflect that primary school friendship groups rarely remain stable. Young families are so much on the move. We hesitated over moving DD away from her Y4 friends but by the end of the year all but one of them had moved elsewhere. And she's still friends with the one who stayed, thanks to social media and occasional meet-ups.

motherinferior · 30/06/2017 16:41

There will probably be other musical opportunities, Herbs.

I appear to be only now on my way back from a looooong lunch. And feel Considerably Better for the break.😀😡

motherinferior · 30/06/2017 16:41

No idea why I posted the 😡!

herbaceous · 30/06/2017 17:10

Lunchtime wine red face??

Possibly...!

Cremolafoam · 30/06/2017 18:39

I am utterly shattered. A short session with the physio has turned me into a staggering old hag. I am supposed to go to Despicable me tonight, but may just crawl into bed. Poop.

Auriga · 30/06/2017 22:59

I'm afraid I gave up on physiotherapy for sciatica when it was clearly making me worse not better. Not an incompetent physio, she helped DH with his spinal injury. Just don't think she had anything to help me & the treatments she tried were atrociously painful.

Cremolafoam · 01/07/2017 08:05

I don't think physio is appropriate if your pain isn't under control. Too often this hasn't happened by the time you have been referred, I think Auriga. I find traction really does help me. I find I am more mobile this morning after a good 12 hours sleep lol. I also think, tentatively that pain goes hand in hand with life sadness and scary moments. My flare up could well have been related to recent crushing events here.
Prob no medical basis for this, but it's interesting,

Have a restful weekend Crepes.

MsMartini · 01/07/2017 09:02

Pain is a funny thing I think. Glad you are more mobile today Crem, take care.

Auriga, dd's do sounds lovely. There will be several crepey empty-nesters next year (if all goes well in our case!), so we can swap tips and make plans.

Rosenspants · 01/07/2017 09:10

I am so concerned for you Crepeys with chronic pain Sad. But I do agree with Crem that extreme stress....and moreover racing around when under extreme stress is a predisposing or exacerbating factor. Flowers. I am also really saddened by the news of the lost twin baby, Auriga Sad Flowers

In trivia and S&B, both Boden dresses are going back...the green patterned one is incredibly unflattering...no wonder it's still available..... and I'm a bit disappointed that the linen one is a bit too straight up and down so tight on the hips. I have however kept the beach kaftan which actually I would also wear as a top (needs a camisole or vest) over jeans or cropped leggings.
I have it in the navy and white spotty version

I have dithered over the Oliver Bonas dress which I bought a couple of weeks ago but swopped for the size up...this being another straight up and down style which was snug on the hips. It will need an alteration as it's way too big elsewhere though but I like it so much...probably worth it.

here

Am still awaiting my Wrap order and have ordered a replacement pair of my favourite pikolinos in blue as although they are not remotely stylish or beautiful, they are great for messing around on the coast when you don't want to show toes, and are heavenly comfy.

Cremolafoam · 01/07/2017 11:27

Ooh I really like the OB dress Rose but isn't the photography of it terrible. Not one straight on picture on a human. Why is the poor model so scrunched up. I fear for her vertebral health.😮
I do live vicarious shopping with you Rose.Grin

Random sports news:
British lions won their match- am both surprised and pleased. 🏉
Wimbledon starts on Monday - yay for distraction of it for Dad.

NUFC69 · 01/07/2017 12:03

Glad to hear that you are a bit livelier today, Crem: I was pleased with the
Lions' result, too.

Love your purchases, Rose, and particularly the shoes which look sooo comfortable. I have recently bought a shoe stretcher, plus spray, from Pavers to try to get some wear out of the many pairs of unworn shoes in my wardrobe. Fingers crossed it does appear to be making some difference, which the shop assistant assured me it would. My visiting friend also bought one and seems happy with the results.

MsMartini · 01/07/2017 16:44

I really like that dress, Rose, but how does the bra/boobage situation work? Always love following your links!

Rosenspants · 01/07/2017 17:39

It's not bad actually. It looks as though it's a one shoulder dress but it isn't. The tie shoulder covers the bra fine...but the bodice is way too big for me and so I have to get it altered so bra doesn't peek out of the arm holes.

hattymattie · 02/07/2017 08:30

A big hello crepies - I'm really sorry for my absence - I've just had a massively hectic two weeks. I've skim read the thread but I fear am not fully up to date with all.

Anyway, am back from DD1's graduation which was fabulous and the weather held up (only just). Very mysterious and arcane graduation ceremony with much ancient Latin - no photo's permitted. French DH who had received his degree in the post was highly impressed.

Had gone prepared with cream linen trousers, sleeveless top and sandals then glanced at the skies and panicked. Rushed into LK Bennet at 9 am on the day of the ceremony and got swanky (but painful) shoes, lovely navy trousers and long tweedy coat thing, all in the sale, which I wore in the end. These articles will do for other smart occasions (although tweedy coat draws attention to itself on the photos so probs was a mistake for the graduation much though I love it).

DS has had his exams and was a star staying home alone - I am quite proud how my DC's have managed themselves over the weekend.

Auriga - dreadful about the baby. I cannot imagine anything worse. A friend of mine's 8 week old baby has just been in hospital for two weeks and nearly died of whooping cough. Please make sure your nanny's are vaccinated people - especially if they are from remote corners of the world where universal coverage isn't assured. It would never have occurred to me (or her) that you could pick up whooping cough in a smart suburb in summer.

Stropps - if you're still here - I hope things are going OK. My DD's godfather's daughter has had similar trauma but at 21 has done an access course and has got into a great uni to do law.

Anyway, will check back in later - rainy here in Paris - am going to mooch around slowly and put on washing machine ...

MsMartini · 02/07/2017 09:19

Hatty, dashing out but lovely to see you and so pleased dd1's graduation went well. How is dd2?

bigTillyMint · 02/07/2017 09:21

Hatty, good to see you!

Rosenspants · 02/07/2017 09:32

hatty 😃😃😃 glad you're back!

Rare treat...I am not up yet. DH and DS2 have departed for Brum, to move out finally of halls into student rental house. There seemed to be many toilet rolls and tubes of Colgate in the back of the car. DD is off to see Justin Bieber with DS1 in Hyde Park later this afternoon, so I have mostly a day off and some time without my lot. I am disproportionately merry about this!
