Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. If you wish join us on this thread I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

If you pose a question and we need more contextual information to answer properly we may ask you to fill in the following form. Please only use this form when asked, unsolicited forms will be deleted. Responses to the form can be found here

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

MAY/JUNE 2017: It’s summer and some of us are hourglasses (and otherwise beautifully shaped) that desperately need to bitch and moan about the severe lack of clothes available to us. Also, some of us are recovering from a ‘fine’ butchering to our hair. Don’t ask. Some of us suffer from all of the above. At least the weather is good, wear sunscreen.

I have twice as much sunscreen as I wanted and a big spot on my forehead 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕to the universe

userallusedup · 07/06/2017 18:33

Smile JDSTER I've ordered it! The reviews (there were more on Amazon.com) said it was really good for oily skin and the pinky-ness isn't obvious under makeup.

yongnian when in your routine do use LRP serozinc? I've got it but am never sure when to use so haven't really been bothering, as I don't want it to affect the potency of the retinol or Vit c I use.

mintmagnummm · 07/06/2017 19:00

The clarifying cleanser stung tonight and face went red, skin feels a little sore and irritated now and I also have a few red spots Sad

JDSTER · 07/06/2017 19:12

user Grin
Now Enid did you check out your basket on Amazon?

ilovetocook · 07/06/2017 19:45

I love my silk pillowcase. I've been using for over a year. I also bought one for my daughter and my stepdaughter as they have difficult hair. My daughter would wake with a bird's nest at the back of her head no matter what we did now its easily brushable in the morning

mintmagnummm · 07/06/2017 19:56

Anyone use lrp ultra light fluid spf 50? I'm currently using the eucerin mattifying spf 50 and can't decide whether to continue or try the lrp?? The eucerin is fine and no reaction etc but it does feel a little greasy

cad186 · 07/06/2017 21:09

Does everyone use hand creams with spf? I looked for one the other day and I was surprised how few of the hand creams had spf. Has anyone got any recommendations please?

Tantpoke · 07/06/2017 21:10

My LRP antihelios spf 30 matte fluid 50ml and LRP antihelios spf 50 invisible face mist 75ml arrived today. Bit meh at how small they are for the £. Hope they're worth it and least last the summer Hmm

JDSTER · 07/06/2017 21:13

Boots No 7 have a hand cream with SPF but to be honest you'd get better protection (and cheaper no doubt) with a SPF designed for body - one that you like and isn't too greasy that you can slather on the backs of your hands (I wish I'd been good at this years ago Sad). I now keep some by the front door to remind me to put it on just before I leave

Tantpoke · 07/06/2017 21:13

I'm loving the TO retinoid 2% and TO Vit C although the latter is rubbish under makeup so I'll just wear it in the evenings on alternate evenings.

userallusedup · 07/06/2017 21:25

Tant that LRP Anthelios spray is tiny, mine didn't last long at all. I ended up using it mainly on my hands so I could top up out and about after washing them. I use Ultrasun on them in the morning but this is the first summer I've bothered with SPF on my hands, I only started using it on my face recently due to these threads Blush

EnidButton · 07/06/2017 21:28

I haven't yet JD. It has to wait until all the clothes I've sent back are refunded. They take ages! 🙄 I could get it now but I'm trying to keep track of what I've spent this month. So it's sitting there patiently. Grin

The Boots no7 Handcream that has spf, stinks. It has something that lightens skin in it and actually smells a bit of bleach to me. My sense of smell is ridiculously strong but still. I wasn't keen at all.

Tantpoke · 07/06/2017 23:06

It didn't even occur to me to put spf on my hands but I will do now and I have so many I can use up that my face didn't like. Oh god and I've been wiping glycolic acid on my hands after my face.
To be fair I just tried out the LRP spf Matt fluid on my hand and I really like the consistency and how ungreasy it is. So I'm hoping it will last longer due to its watery consistency. Fingers crossed.
The mist is a godsend if it works because I'm always getting caught out when the sun comes out on a lunch break or after work etc I just have to remember to put it in my bag.

Boots are now selling all the LRP antihelios stuff for 25% off.

Re the LRP serozinc spray I never got to grips with where to add it in my routine and I'm pretty sure it irritated my skin.

EnidButton · 08/06/2017 00:53

I didn't get on with Serozinc either. I want to, so it's still in my cabinet. I like zinc as an ingredient and like spray water and that's all it is, but sure it broke me out. It felt like a greasy layer just sat on top. Are you supposed to just spray it on all over the face? People really rave about it.

mintmagnummm · 08/06/2017 05:50

Serozinc didn't agree with my skin either

yongnian · 08/06/2017 09:20

user I spray serozinc on after cleansing, let it sit a while then blot off. I don't think it interferes with vit c or retinol, far as I know..
My skin generally seems to like it.
Re hand creams and spfs...I usually slick a bit of of the spf I use over moisturiser on face, neck and décolleté on the back of my hands, after hand cream. TBH I put a blob of it on the back of my hand anyway to apply it to my face, as I find it easier to pat it in from there (and avoid pilling from rubbing)

wiltingfast · 08/06/2017 17:10

I have the vichy one mint but don't like the smell. I really miss their pump spray one >sob sob<

Re serozinc, I use it a bit but I don't notice any effect one way or the other from it. I only use it if I am actively a bit spotty. I don't blot it off. I'm not sure i'd RP tbh.

The TO 23% trial is going fine. No reactions. Working fine under makeup. Has stopping stinging so much. Face is possibly a bit silvery? Might be imagining it! My face is pretty calm on the current regime actually:

AM
TO 23%
Hylamide
LRP Toleriane Fluide

PM
2% Retinoid / acids instead maybe once a week
Hylamide
LRP Toleriane

Cult beauty sent me a sample of Susanne Kaufmann nutrient concentrate for skin. It was LOVELY. It's also £93 EEEK. Very very very soothing. So nice. Smelt weird though, like soap. here

miffy2 · 08/06/2017 19:04

Hylamide and other Indeed Labs products are (up to) half price in Boots right now...I took the plunge and ordered one as it seems to be well reviewed here.

mintmagnummm · 08/06/2017 19:46

Arrrrrrrrrrgh my skin has gone to pot! Seriously fed up now! All my friends who use very little if anything at all have clear fresh looking skin!

RubyGoat · 08/06/2017 21:47

So far I think I quite like the new version Biore Watery Essence SPF. It takes a bit longer to dry than the previous version (I'm doing one side of my face with the new & the other side with the old, for a proper test). IMO that's a good thing as sometimes the old one dries up before I get it completely spread all over my face & neck. No issues so far, & I've not noticed any weird interactions / differences with the way the rest of my products perform. Have used with & without foundation so far, seemed fine.

wiltingfast · 09/06/2017 10:36

I watched those sunscreen YTvideos, a lot of great info, persuasively presented. Really vg.

Of course, I am now questioning my should I be using a physical sunscreen instead of a chemical one?

Am back using lrp athelios xl, as while I'm not keen on the texture, it does not irritate at all.

Would be interested in a change but too impatient for Japanese products!

Isn't someone using the neostrata, Pupsie?

banivani · 09/06/2017 11:46

What was the verdict on TO salicylic acid? Skincity are having a 20% off Paula's Choice drive and I don't know if I should commit or get TO instead when I want to RP Nia+zinc anyway.

EnidButton · 09/06/2017 16:33

Right EH balm is definitely giving me blocked pores and spots. Every time I use it I wake up the next day with little whiteheads and lumps under the skin.

Can't use DHC because of the rosemary oil, can't use TBS chamomile balm because of the shea butter, skin hates TTDO Clinique, Botanics one terrible because of bees wax, LRP toleriane not enough for removing make up for me.

Memory is shit today. What were the other make up removing oils and balms suggested please?

EnidButton · 09/06/2017 16:34

My skin looks awful btw. I don't think there's anything that'll help other than getting well again. Just want it to be at least free from lumps, spots and red marks.

Pupsiecola · 09/06/2017 17:27

Yes Wilting. I really like the Neostrata tinted SPF. Works well for me. I don't wear it all that often but it's good if I don't want to go SPF + tinted moisturiser but want sth more than SPF alone.

Funny you should say that Enid because I've been using TTDO instead of EH all week and I'm almost certain that my skin is just generally calmer. I don't know what to suggest re alternatives. I have the NY Rose Balm which I love, and you're supposed to be able to cleanse with it, but I've never used it for that...

I don't think I get on with the DHC either.
