Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. If you wish join us on this thread I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

If you pose a question and we need more contextual information to answer properly we may ask you to fill in the following form. Please only use this form when asked, unsolicited forms will be deleted. Responses to the form can be found here

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

MAY/JUNE 2017: It’s summer and some of us are hourglasses (and otherwise beautifully shaped) that desperately need to bitch and moan about the severe lack of clothes available to us. Also, some of us are recovering from a ‘fine’ butchering to our hair. Don’t ask. Some of us suffer from all of the above. At least the weather is good, wear sunscreen.

Thanks for that info JDSTER. That arrived quickly! Im still waiting for my order I placed before the 30% release which is annoying as I could have added it on.

I've stumbled across a YouTuber reviewing it and they rated it too. It's definitely on my list to buy. She did say that the tube didn't feel properly full and you had to use quite a lot so she didn't think it would last long at all. Did you find that too?

Flowers Enid, really sorry about your dog and you being unwell.

EnidButton · 07/08/2017 11:50

Thank you Bali I think it's shock or something.

Tsmummy08 · 07/08/2017 12:11

Oh Enid, I'm so sorry to hear this :(
We had our dog PTS in January, it was heart-wrenching.... Sending lots of virtual hugs Flowers

EnidButton · 07/08/2017 12:53

Thank you. Flowers

EnidButton · 07/08/2017 12:54

TS and I'm sorry for your loss too.

I hope I'm not being massively insensitive posting about it here considering people are going through much worse. I haven't had any sleep so not thinking straight.

Skinfulnappies46 · 07/08/2017 12:55

Any suggestions of things to buy from m&s beauty.? The gift box offer is on....

Skinfulnappies46 · 07/08/2017 12:58

enid so sorry to hear this. Sending hugs xx

Enid Flowers
Bali yes I still haven't received my latest TO parcel and also annoyed as I could have added on the 30% Vit C, email also came after I made an order.

I have to add that my red cheeks have gone right down now I'm using a combination of Vit C, azaelic acid and retinoid 2% seems to work for me. I've been applying the buffet an hour or so after the retinoid so my skin seems plumper as well which is good.

I can actually leave the house, go to work etc with no make up on sometimes. However as I am on my feet all day, my cheeks do still go red later on so I'll pop a bit of foundation on.

Tantpoke · 07/08/2017 14:32

I have a question about hair.

Would you bother dying your roots for one week in the sun, sand, pool, sea or leave it till you got back? my roots have reached a point where I really need to do them, I wear my hair up at work so it doesn't really notice so much then.

I have just starting using a new shampoo that someone was recommending to her friend in the shop by herbal essences- detox. It takes out all the hair products that build up, esp good for fine long hair like mine that needs washing quite often.

botemp · 07/08/2017 14:49

Sorry I've been a bit MIA, WiFI has been testy so OH played around with proxies and IP addresses (I think) and whilst it's more stable I've lost several replies to the ether so hopefully this time it will work so I can my express deep sympathies to Enid Flowers, and belatedly to Tsmummy08. Was around this time last year that we had to put ours down, I hope there wasn't too much suffering involved.

Will catch up with the rest later and hopefully be in time to get the next thread up. Just quickly to Tant, I would do 'something' as I can tell you from experience now that the five grey hairs I have are suddenly very obvious in the sunshine whereas they otherwise go unnoticed by me, so that's something to take in consideration. Also depends on what you usually get done though, permanent hair dye is very permanent on me, so sun, chlorine, etc. don't influence it that much with the right protection products but semi-permanent washes out quickly no matter what. Maybe one of those root sprays or powders would be a good interim solution?

skinful which beauty box is this? M&S beauty boxes are usually pretty good, is there a new one out?
I like Emma Hardie cleansing balm, and Living Proof dry shampoo. I also really like Pur cosmetics concealer (I got a half size in one of their previous boxes I think and it is going strong).

Pupsiecola · 07/08/2017 17:31

Enid, I'm sad to hear about your dog. Very upsetting for you all.

JDSTER, that's very interesting re TO Vit C. I've just ordered it, seeing as my current 23% is almost all gone.

Tantpoke · 07/08/2017 17:34

The beauty box seems to have come and gone, all sold out already. There were loads left over at Christmas, meh. I would have liked the shower gels and clear make up bags otherwise there wasn't much this time I wanted so I'm not too put out Grin

Treeballarae · 07/08/2017 18:19

I'm catching up on this thread and @mintmagnummm I saw you asked about fodmap and gluten free bread a few pages ago, so I've jumped to end, and will go back in a sec and read the rest. I've followed the fodmap diet since 2012 for IBS and for moments when only bread will satisfy, I eat the marks and spencer brown seeded bread, or their seeded bloomer, or Genius seeded or brown seeded. Make my own bread in a bread maker too using dove's gluten free bread flour.

@enidbutton sorry to read about your dog Flowers

Treeballarae · 07/08/2017 18:29

Oh sorry I misread- I see you are still allowed small amount of normal bread - that'll teach me to jump ahead! Blush

Shop · 07/08/2017 18:39

So sorry Enid Flowers

miffy it's the SKIN REVIVE nourishing cream concentrate. The brand is from Alan Sugar & a lady who was on the apprentice a few years ago. It's only sold via brand ambassadors but seems totally different to other mlm type brands

ohgoonthenjustonemore · 07/08/2017 18:46

Sad news Enid 💐 these animals break your heart.

botemp · 07/08/2017 19:16

Managed to get new thread up pathetically pleased with myself:

Sorry, Pupsie, I forgot your previous reserved title... will have to go dig it out again for the next, next thread.

Found a new Pantene shampoo. Could be their replacement for the clarifying shampoo. It's called Micellar cleanse & nourish which doesn't inspire confidence tbh but it's a clear liquid like the clarifying one was and says it's for hair prone to greasiness which I think was on the old one. Silicone free, not too bothered about that but for a deep cleanse in between more moisturising shampoos and conditioners, it's a good thing. Can't find the ingredients of the clarifying shampoo to compare unfortunately so just have to try it.

I think Pantene have form for discontinuing products only to bring them back under a new more on trend name and noticed 'clarifying' isn't being used as much generally. So fingers crossed.

Tantpoke · 08/08/2017 13:33

enid I've bought the Pantene micellar shampoo but haven't used it yet. I've been using the herbal essences detox shampoo which I'm liking a lot so far.

EnidButton · 08/08/2017 14:30

Tant I have that one I think and I wasn't very keen on it. Smells nice and haircwas fine afterwards but it got oily at the roots the next day. The old Pantene one meant I could go a 2-3 days between washing. I might try this new one tonight so I'll let you know what it's like.
