Are Style bloggers wealthy as a result of their blogs or do only wealthy women actually blog in the first place?

Just wondering really as every single style blog I come across is written by someone who appears to have pots of cash and thinks an item reduced to £200 from £300 is a 'bargain'?

I seriously can't get over the amount most of them seem to spend on clothes!

OP posts:
CrispyBathTowel · 11/05/2017 17:00

Maud I never set foot in it either but I saw them on the F40 blog and ordered online Grin Zara do a nearly identical pair for £29.99 as TS are sold out now I think.

Maudlinmaud · 11/05/2017 17:02

Interesting I like Zara. What's the sole like, can you feel every little stone you step on?

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 11/05/2017 17:09

silk Yes, a number of them started on Instagram (I know a very successful Instagrammer with 1m+ who has introduced a lot of this group into my social circle - they are all over me because I used to run a successful website) and progressed onto blogging but with a very definite plan for success. A plan for business success is fine in my book but one where they are buying £1500+ worth of clothes, photographing them, then returning them makes me uncomfortable. They have a "pod" where they all visit each other's blogs, instagrams etc and interact with them to inflate stats.
One of these bloggers has a YouTube channel where she trials the clothes over a few wears and washes and rates them actually films these wears and washes (which supposedly happen over month) in an afternoon but changes make up and background.

CrispyBathTowel · 11/05/2017 17:49

Maud the sole is thin but no thinner than other pumps - I can't feel stones etc when walking in them. Best of all no blisters - most other flats that aren't trainers normally cut my feet to shreds.

squoosh · 11/05/2017 17:51

That sells them to me alone. I too have feet of a sensitive disposition that are wont to shred at the most inoffensive shoes.

EnidButton · 11/05/2017 18:08

There seems to be a gap where there aren't many fashion bloggers in their 30's.

Lots of 20's and 40's but I can't think of any in their 30's apart from A Model Recommends. Unless I'm just missing them. I know there's a few on Instagram but anyone know of any bloggers or vloggers?

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 11/05/2017 18:31

I have noticed that Enid. I wonder if it is because a lot of women in their mid thirties go off to have children or their careers take and upward spike and they simply don't have time to build blogs into anything more than a very small hobby?
I'd love some more women in their 30s, the few I know A Beautiful Mess, Sprinkle of Glitter, Love Taza are obviously very competent, savvy business women but they force this simpering fool act that I cannot swallow.

BringMeTea · 11/05/2017 18:41

The Frugality is 30s.

EnidButton · 11/05/2017 18:49

Thank you Bring I'll have a look.

Keira Yes I wondered that too. Also a lot of the 30 something bloggers do a lot of baby stuff which I'm not interested in. I think Glitter changed her image (?) last year but I never really followed her so not sure.

EnidButton · 11/05/2017 18:51

Not that I can't look at the 40 something blogs obviously. Grin I do, and I watch some of the 20's vloggers, just a bridge between the two ages would be nice. 30's get forgotten about in shops too I think.

ElspethFlashman · 11/05/2017 19:37

Laura from buynowbloglater is in her thirties but she seems to have quit as the last post was November. She had great style but it was all Zara and Forever 21 with the odd bit of Reiss on occasion. She had a serious ASOS habit too. I followed her since her lollipop26 or whatever days on YouTube so sorely miss her blog. She is still massive on Instagram though, fresh stories every day with her purchases. She has her own (proper) business though so didn't really have the time or the passion to put as much hours in as needed.

I still recommend her blog just to look over the 2016 stuff though!

squoosh · 11/05/2017 19:40

Love Taza are obviously very competent, savvy business women but they force this simpering fool act that I cannot swallow.

Oh my God, Love Taza. Naomi and that dorktastic grinning fool of a husband. I only look at her blog now I have the urge to roll my eyes and swear a little. Mormon Mommy blogs are far too full of false rainbows and fairy dust. Plus the way they monetise their kids'......yuck.

junebirthdaygirl · 11/05/2017 20:10

Havent read the whole post. I have a friend who is a cosmetic buyer. They are notified by company that such and such a blogger will mention their lipstick at half ten next Tues morning so to be ready for an upsurge on sales. The whole thing is a lie and makes me so angry especially for young people who buy into that..lts a total con job

BaggyCheeks · 11/05/2017 20:21

Enid Is DressLikeAMum not in her 30s?

EnidButton · 11/05/2017 20:28

Thanks, I'd forgotten about Laura and haven't heard of dresslikeamum. I'll add 'em to the list to check out later. Smile

CrispyBathTowel · 11/05/2017 20:34

I used to really like buynowbloglater - it's a shame she's stopped blogging. I might have to finally join Instagram

SplatPancake · 11/05/2017 22:03

MaQueen, where's 'MyLittleFrenchCloset' at? Can't find it and am intrigued!

TheMightyMing · 11/05/2017 22:17

I really like Beth Goodrham personal stylist and I'd love to be styled by her. We seem to have similar tastes and are of. Similar age I think.

I really enjoy reading fashion and beauty blogs.

TheCraicDealer · 11/05/2017 22:23

buynowbloglater was some craic, she wasn't afraid to laugh at herself. She described her early 2000s penchant for pale pink lippy as "jizz lips". That alone makes me love her. She's still v prolific on instagram if you want a fix. I stopped reading beauty blogs a while ago so I hadn't realised she'd stopped.

MaQueen · 11/05/2017 22:41

Crispy yes, they are lovely and soft aren't they. I have had so many compliments on them, especially the red and gold. Somehow the black don't look quite as special?

I wear my red ones with skinny, black 7/8ths jeans and a black/cream Breton and fool myself that I look like Coco Chanel...

MaQueen · 11/05/2017 22:44

I can't find MyFrenchClosest either?

My other French one is gaouelle_13

MaQueen · 11/05/2017 22:46

And lefripesdevalentine is excellent, too Smile

MadameSzyszkoBohush · 11/05/2017 23:15

Model recommends (Ruth) is great. Obviously she has a really nice life but is totally down to earth and happily chats away about high-end foundation alongside C section scars and breastfeeding.

Agree re Caroline Hirons vlogs, I've stopped watching. She's always like "I've got to go to x,y and z today" then she checks in later and is like "oh I didn't make it to y". If you were an employee you couldn't get away with that! She's always over-committing herself and then complains she's too tired.

I haven't seen Fleur's new house - will have to check it out!

ElspethFlashman · 12/05/2017 08:05

Not even God himself would have the patience for Caroline's vlogs. Her Insta Stories are the same which is why I swipe past. Just loads of her talking to camera.

I really want to know the story behind Fleur's new home which appears to be Mikes parents country pile. Fleur sold their last one for 1.1 million, so they were only there a year and made a big profit. Mind you, it was absolutely dreamy and they did a lot to it.

The new place is even bigger and obviously a country house. I saw a vlog where she was letting the dogs out in the morning and the boot room where they sleep was the size of my spare room!

I have to say despite the wealthy background I don't begrudge her much. She didn't even have management until about 2 years ago so she got all her viewers all by herself. And she worked damn hard at it. Now she has her Eyelure contract and her Mac lipstick and still, the only reason people have to hate on her is the whole "free new massive house" thing.

londonfeather · 12/05/2017 09:31

I am friends with one of the bloggers that has been mentioned on here and yes she and her husband are wealthy but she is extremely savvy and engaging and has really established a great career for herself online. I think people underestimate the time and skill it takes to be engaging in front of a camera, often on their own, to plan content and to monetise what they do. It is also really hard to put yourself and your online because everyone judges and has an opinion - it's tough.
