Are Style bloggers wealthy as a result of their blogs or do only wealthy women actually blog in the first place?

Just wondering really as every single style blog I come across is written by someone who appears to have pots of cash and thinks an item reduced to £200 from £300 is a 'bargain'?

I seriously can't get over the amount most of them seem to spend on clothes!

OP posts:
Theycalledmethewildrose · 10/05/2017 15:18

I wonder how many of them have someone with them at all times to film them walking around, posing with their cup of coffee etc. The person I know works with a semi professional photographer and so much work goes into the location/light/pose to achieve the nonchalant just strolling down the street ista story!

Maudlinmaud · 10/05/2017 15:19

Well, there you go. Had never even heard of her before I quite like the boohoo dresses she blogged. Wonder what they look like on.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 10/05/2017 15:27

A lot of them have 'assistants', wildrose. They seem to treat them like dogs. I assume they are desperate teenaged fans who either want to be close to their idol or see it as an in to their own YouTube fame.

Others have management (Storm, that Dom bloke, forgotten his agency) who provide assistants in order to enable the blogger to progress their brand (or some such horseshit).

NomDePlumeReloaded · 10/05/2017 15:29

Gleam, that's them

Yes one of those management agencies has lots of youtubers. I think perhaps their channels changed quite a lot after that. It's the young teens who fall for most of the schill. My dd was obsessed with watching them and my bank balance couldn't keep up with continual stream of must have new products.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 10/05/2017 15:43

They're all mostly identikit. I do like amodelrecommends though. I know she's probably in bed with Hush but I do feel like she's reasonably relatable and normal (though I am not an ex-model).

BadToTheBone · 10/05/2017 15:46

My friends dd is a blogger and she spends very little money, most stuff gets sent to her for free, she doesn't have to make the feedback positive but it helps if she does. This past year she has been to LA, New York and several places around Europe and the UK, this has all been paid for by companies looking for her approval. She's absolutely stunning though.

Maudlinmaud · 10/05/2017 15:48

I like her too, it's like you are just having a chat with a friend, although I haven't followed in a few months. You do grow tired of them. I like Trinny at the mo, not the skincare or make up but her live shopping etc. She's mad Grin

glitterglitters · 10/05/2017 15:53

I work in the blogging world and it's murky but also filled with some fab people too.

Sometimes I'm confused as to how some people are "big" because they're writing trash but there is a lot to answer for on personality and luck.

There's a fashion blogger, specialising in plus size and also has some health issues. She was at my uni and she was literally from the richest family I am aware of. Her parents bought a £2million house for her second year and her mates all lived with her and she used their rent for clothes shopping etc.

She is fab style but I do wonder if people are aware of (and tbh it's only some aspects of her life because long term illness etc is no laughing matter) how easy it is. And if she wasnt so well off, would she be able to follow a similar field?

PNGirl · 10/05/2017 16:06

As others have said they don't pay for much. Certainly not things like Urban Decay pallettes, Hush, Whistles stuff, ASOS. The odd thing (Chanel bags) they do as they're never given away to bloggers, but they will get anything from free stuff in the post to a department store gift card that they then put towards something.

They earn thousands for sponsored instagram posts, YouTube videos, even tweets. The Gleam lot magically get fashion show front seats, cars to test drive, book deals, their own products in Superdrug - this includes amodelrecommends who is with the same management as the dreadful Zoella and Tanya Burr. I'm always a bit disappointed in the people commenting "What's your job" when they clearly don't do anything but blog!

glitterglitters · 10/05/2017 16:09

Definitely a chicken and egg situation. They get to a point where they are well off and sent loads of free stuff, but to get to that point they have to spend Bank to be ahead of the curve.

PNGirl · 10/05/2017 16:13

FleurdeForce is a good example. She's loaded - one of her first videos when she was a student was a handbag haul with Mulberry stuff she'd been gifted from the age of 15 onwards. She went straight into living with her now husband who is also loaded and I believe started out in his family business. They were living in a cottage on his parents' grounds.

There's no way at 22 I would have been able to sit at home and hope my blog took off.

AspasiaFitzgibbon · 10/05/2017 16:15

I'm actually a big fan of the bum lady as I love her writing and I think it's pretty clear when she's doing a sponsored post (M and S, Debenhams). When you actually look at her OOTD posts it's clear she doesn't have a massive massive wardrobe; and yes, there are some crazy designer outfits but there's a lot of High Street too.
If she didn't have a completely different body shape to me I'd end up buying a ruinous quantity of clothes from her blog.

glitterglitters · 10/05/2017 16:16

@PNGirl she used to do so much relatable stuff. Primark and boots. But now it's all "drugstore" (but from US) and "sneaky" handbag purchases that cost £3k. Not to mention the insane amount of away trips and meals out.

The house they live in now as well 😱😱😱 casually living in his family manor. There's a room specifically for flower arranging. What do you even call that?!

glitterglitters · 10/05/2017 16:20

@PNGirl not always relatable with mulberry bags etc but it's another level now.

PNGirl · 10/05/2017 16:27

I know. I mean, I have a Mulberry and a Coach so it's not like the average person stops being relatable if they treat themselves, but monthly designer bags, 3 week out of 4 on paid-for trips to LA, multiple cars and a million pound crash-pad in London are Not Normal.

glitterglitters · 10/05/2017 16:38

@PNGirl I still can't stop watching though 😂👌🏼

I agree with @PNGirl it is the frequency with which they buy/get given these high end things which is a problem with regards to being able to relate. I have a fair few high end bags, but I have had to work hard and save for most of them, others have been gifts, but bloggers will talk about 'investment purchases' but it's not an investment if you stop using/wearing something after a few seasons which they do, especially with things like Gucci soho bags and the furry mules as they look dull after a while because they have been done to death on everyone on Instagram. I have an Alexander wang Rocco bag that I bought when I was 18 after about a year of saving up and I am 22 now and still use it weekly, and I will continue to do so making it worth the 'investment'. I just find it distasteful when you think of all the wasted stuff, and the fact they encourage people to spend their money when they haven't had to open their own purses.

SafeWord · 10/05/2017 16:59

Bum40, style guile and some of the others obviously have rich husbands but why hate her for it?

They're good at saving me shopping time.

AspasiaFitzgibbon · 10/05/2017 17:01

I haven't come across style guile! What others do you follow?

WipsGlitter · 10/05/2017 17:30

One Anelli Bush get sent loads of "bits". I'm jealous. Really nice cosmetics etc. She's just done a huge post of next maternity wear I suspect was sponsored.

I like The Frugality. Especially her house stuff.

Little Wood Life is good too.

EnidButton · 10/05/2017 17:59

FdF has a flower arranging room? Shock

She also bought a flat in London for when she's working there (not sure doing what but at Gleam presumably). Said it was for filming in and doing Instagram pics but it hasn't really been seen since. It was lovely.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 10/05/2017 18:00

Sometimes you can see the name of the store and it says PR next to it.I like Frugality too but I think there is NO way on earth she pays for Next or M&S clothing. Yesterday she raved about a particular candle. Today she said thank you to her followers as the candle sold out since she blogged about it. I imagine there is a lot of cross business between the bloggers. I notice they like each other's posts a lot too.

I just looked for a model recommends on Istagram. I'm interested to see real people wear Hush clothing. I can't find her though. Could anybody link her and any others who blog about high street fashion. Thank you.
