Are Style bloggers wealthy as a result of their blogs or do only wealthy women actually blog in the first place?

Just wondering really as every single style blog I come across is written by someone who appears to have pots of cash and thinks an item reduced to £200 from £300 is a 'bargain'?

I seriously can't get over the amount most of them seem to spend on clothes!

She's called Ruth Crilly Theycalled I think she has one account for fashion, make up, lifestyle and another for baby related stuff. I like her, she doesn't seem to have changed like the others and I feel like she tells the truth about a product. www.amodelrecommends.com

Theycalledmethewildrose · 10/05/2017 18:11

Thank you Enid. I am now following her!

I very recently started following Caroline Hirons and I find her very scary. I'd prefer to hear about her skincare routine and products directly from her than read threads written by others. She seems very unpleasant though.

EnidButton · 10/05/2017 18:16

She is scary!

Theycalledmethewildrose · 10/05/2017 18:21

Does she ever say anything useful in her Ista stories? So far she has ranted about some of her followers, how tired she is, her kids and her cat. I might unsubscribe from her on Ista and just read her blog if she doesn't actually use Ista for talking about products.

PNGirl · 10/05/2017 18:22

FleurdeForce isn't Gleam; she's James Grant I think.

I really like Lizzy Hadfield. She does an amazing series called Testing Basics and she buys it all with her own cash.

WipsGlitter · 10/05/2017 18:35

Caroline Hirons Indra is weird. I unfollowed her.

WipsGlitter · 10/05/2017 18:36

Insta not Indra.

glitterglitters · 10/05/2017 18:38

No you're right Fleur is James Grant along with people like Cherry Healey, MyPaleSkin etc and her network is StyleHaul.

Gleam is your Zoella, Tanya, every chapman (pixiwoos, Jim... think there's another one), Zoe's brother Thatcher Joe, Louise sprinkle of glitter. Different brands and different circles, target market etc

Most bloggers I know work really damn hard (myself included!) and will declare things. You get really good at spotting paid for/freebie stuff as well. I was surprised a friend of mine was sent sent freebies to "gram" and isn't anything like that. Just a pretty girl with a big following.

YouTube is a different beast entirely. However I love people like Liza Prideaux (had a lovely email exchange with her once) and I've seen so many YTers come and go.

I've had some great freebies myself but I always declare them and for every one I work with there are so many I've said nope too. I've said no to things like power tools, blutack that has the properties of magnets, a chainsaw (!!!) and a weird events. It's still a job though and even though a lot of the time it looks "easy" when you're chasing light around and trying to find a 78th synonym for "on trend" it wears thin.

Thankfully I spend most of my blogging days blogging for other people now, but I still dabble on occasion. You couldn't pay me to be a parent YouTuber though 🙌🏼

glitterglitters · 10/05/2017 18:40

@EnidButton if you follow her blog channel she's there a lot and it's in her Bride DeForce channel a lot.

Her flower arranging room is what she is using as a temporary office. From what it has been gleaned from her YT and various boards they sold up their own house and moved into Mike's family home. It's all a bit strange but it looks like a HUGE estate and a lot of upkeep.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 10/05/2017 18:59

I used to follow a blog that was recommended on here, but I've just realised the link has gone from my phone.

She did good work stuff, lots was H&M and Zara.

Then designer shoes/scarves etc but only if they were in the sale or a genuine good purchase.

She was quite petite, maybe a size 8/10 and all her photos were in changing rooms. Dark hair, poss early 40's.

And she wrote good stuff on 'rules for summer workwear' etc.

Belinda something maybe? Anyone know what on earth I'm talking about? Grin

CrispyBathTowel · 10/05/2017 19:39

Yes - but Belinda was tall and blonde? Think she's stopped blogging now though but the blog was called the workwear edit or something like that.

sowhatusernameisnttaken · 10/05/2017 19:49

Ahhh dying to know, can someone pm me who you're all talking about?! I only really know of the two -ahem -midlife ones

NomDePlumeReloaded · 10/05/2017 19:54

In some ways, I like Caroline Hirons' direct approach but I dislike the moany stuff she does. Always 'ill', always busybusybusymumof4 (two of her children are independent adults, ffs). Competitive busyness and self-importance.

I know we're not always upbeat in real life but her latest vlog was about minutes of her in bed complaining about jet lag and migraines. I sympathise, migraines are shit but if you are ill, switch off and go to bed. People don't need to see you crapping on about how exhausted and ill you are for 2/3 of a half hour video.

Trinny is fucking loopy. Entertaining to watch but the quality of her videos are maddeningly poor and her skincare advice is horrendous. She can't pronounce things, doesn't know the order things go on in, scrubs her face like it's a 1940's front step Shock.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 10/05/2017 20:05

That was her Crispy

What a shame, I liked her stuff.

Do you know if there's anyone similar?

CrispyBathTowel · 10/05/2017 20:07

Just checked and she seems to be active on Instagram under the same name - theworkwearedit

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/05/2017 20:08

I like My Fashionable Forties, because she wears a lot of stuff I already wear, and does repeat wear a lot of stuff too.

She's the only one I really look at these days.

Never bother reading any of the writing, as I've not seen a single fashion blogger who actually knows how to write/punctuate terribly well.

I do think getting a blog going and sustaining it must require a lifestyle that is already pretty affluent, or a lot of cheating by ordering stuff, photographing it and returning it.

I still actually quite like the odd thing in M&S, but don't believe for a second that certain bloggers who post about M&S stuff are actually wearing all of the frightful polyester midi dresses (for example) they keep posting links to.

FunkinEll · 10/05/2017 20:13

I have an in law who works in fashion PR and knows quite a few of the fashion bloggers about. Some of the mum bloggers would have had pretty good jobs previously, lots of their stuff is given to them for free, one in particular mentioned on page one is from a very wealthy background (and is supposedly a very lovely woman), some worked in fashion before so it's a pretty easy ride. I get the impression the fashion industry is pretty small so it's easy to get to know someone. I get a lot of blogger goss Grin

CrispyBathTowel · 10/05/2017 20:37

I like My Fashionable Forties too though whilst she looks good in wide legged ankle cropped jeans I look ridiculous. Have tried the gap and next ones and thibk I'll just give up and accept it's a jean style that I'm just not meant to wear.

Maudlinmaud · 10/05/2017 20:43

Are you small crispy? At 5ft1 I can pull off capri but sadly not the wide leg ankle length variety. I really want to but it's not going to happen Angry

Theycalledmethewildrose · 10/05/2017 20:47

I ADORE Trinny. Live her videos and beauty advice and her energy. She returns products she gets sent for free and makes a point of saying she doesn't want products sent to her and she only reviews what she is interested in. I'm looking forward to her own line coming out.

I like too that she refuses to get a tripod and instead sticks her phone on mirrors etc as she doesn't want to be too professional. She is

Theycalledmethewildrose · 10/05/2017 20:48

...far more authentic than any other blogger I follow.

CrispyBathTowel · 10/05/2017 21:03

I'm 5ft 6 Maud and still looked like a clown Sad

CrispyBathTowel · 10/05/2017 21:05

...plus they made me look about a stone heavier than I am I think. I nearly bought the Next ones but took a selfie of myself wearing them in the changing room mirror a la blogger stylee and on reflection when I got home decided that they did nothing for me so am glad I didn't buy. I have normal ankles but they made them look like twigs poking out and huge evwrywhere else.

Maudlinmaud · 10/05/2017 21:10

I'm so glad you said that, I thought it was just me. Hopefully it's a trend for this season and then fades away. Tbh I've not seen anyone in rl wearing them.

CrispyBathTowel · 10/05/2017 21:16

Next had full rails in every size in the blue denim, green khaki and stonewash black so they don't seem to be flying off the shelf and I havent seen anyone in RL wear them either. I so wanted to love them but would probably have felt a bit of a dick in them in public tbh
