Has wearing a fascinator for wedding guests had it's day now?

Just as the title really. I've not worn one for the past two weddings I've been to, just a small sparkly hairband or clip. I'm seeing fewer & fewer of them now too on younger guests. Are they passé? Shall I wear a big fabulous one on Saturday to a civil ceremony? I feel like I might be self conscious.

I think they're a bit passé tbh. They stopped being fascinating in 2011.

Nettletheelf · 25/04/2017 15:25

Yes.

Nettletheelf · 25/04/2017 15:27

Hasty on the trigger finger. Yes, they are passé. Don't wear a big one or a feathery one. Glittery headbands and hair slides are fine though.

AspasiaFitzgibbon · 25/04/2017 15:28

Are you distinguishing fascinators from hats?

Floorblob · 25/04/2017 15:35

At a wedding at the weekend (civil ceremony and reception both held in nice hotel) I'd say around half of the women wore fascinators. A real mix of ages wearing them which surprised me from early twenties, right up to the great grannies. No hats.

AspasiaFitzgibbon · 25/04/2017 16:17

Good God what is the world coming to?

Bluntness100 · 25/04/2017 16:21

I think they have been passé for a very long time. I've yet to see a woman who suits one. They look daft perched on their head. Sorry op. Back away from the fascinators, the only thing that Is fascinating about them is how bad they look and how the wearer doesn't know.

CherylVole · 25/04/2017 16:45

YES ARE SHIT

skippingdolefully · 25/04/2017 16:47

I have a lovely one in black that I wear every Hallowee.n

Bringmesunshite · 25/04/2017 16:51

My wedding was a "don't stress about fascinators/hats - wear one, don't wear one; whatever- come and have a lovely time celebrating with us". Didn't stop my mum getting into a tizz about it, though.

mindmyarse · 25/04/2017 16:55

I wore a hat to wedding recently I was one of the few but a few friends who were wearing fascinators wished they had been bolder and worn hats TBH I think wear what you are comfortable in I love wearing hats because it gives me a feeling of a sense of occasion and those moments are few in life Smile

Yes.

retainertrainer · 25/04/2017 21:18

I love a fascinator ☹️

sonyaya · 25/04/2017 21:20

I love fascinators - I don't think anyone truly looks smart at a wedding without a fascinator/hat.

OlennasWimple · 25/04/2017 21:25

I love hats, but I would rather that guests wore fascinators rather than nothing at all

As long as they aren't those small, cheap ones much beloved by women of a certain age who think that they are being trendy by eschewing a hat but don't have the courage of their convictions to wear a properly stand out fascinator

BeaLola · 25/04/2017 22:19

I agree with the earlier poster about wearing what you feel happy in but being bold. I see a lot of weddings and fascinators still popular - I think some people find them easier to wear and also you can still see in them which sometimes in a large hat that may hinder you - but me I love a hat too just don't know anyone getting married ! I do like the sparkly clips, slides that are popular.

AuntieStella · 25/04/2017 22:22

It really does depend what it looks like - some fascinators are lovely.

Others just look like random stuff has landed on your head (also a hazard with clips)

Hepzibar · 25/04/2017 22:26

Laura Kenny looked fabulous today in her fascinator at Buckingham Palace.

User2468 · 25/04/2017 22:29

Hat or nothing at all, facinators are a bit, Debenhams

ephemeralfairy · 26/04/2017 01:24

The last wedding I went to I wore what was technically a fascinator as it was on a headband but it was far from passé or Debenhams! It's a big abstract bow shape and I mean big. Masses of people commented on how nice it was, including the bride who works in fashion journalism and is one of the most stylish people I know.
But I'd never wear one of those pathetic little feathery scrappy things. I love big hats though.

retainertrainer · 26/04/2017 06:37

I love Debenhams too 😄

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 26/04/2017 06:49

I do suit fascinators and it's a proper disc one with a bow & feathers as well. I just don't know if I'll be "overdressed"!

Gallavich · 26/04/2017 06:55

A disc with bow and feathers...I'm hardly the style queen but that just sounds very dated to me. I just google imaged fascinators and there are some very cool and unusual ones but those disc and feathers ones do look very 2005

Oblomov17 · 26/04/2017 06:58

I think they are vile and hope they are passé.
