Has wearing a fascinator for wedding guests had it's day now?

Just as the title really. I've not worn one for the past two weddings I've been to, just a small sparkly hairband or clip. I'm seeing fewer & fewer of them now too on younger guests. Are they passé? Shall I wear a big fabulous one on Saturday to a civil ceremony? I feel like I might be self conscious.

At my cousin's hen do the activity was making fascinators. So for all of you who hate fascinators (myself included), imagine how much more you would hate a fascinators that you had fashioned yourself with a cheap plastic headband, netting/ lace/feathers, and a glue gun. It was the worst of times. Thankfully, we weren't expected to wear them to the wedding Grin

Ephmeralfairy I like the sound of your big bow 'headpiece' (I won't say fascinators). Would you mind saying where it was from?

Starduke · 26/04/2017 14:23

I was debating wearing a fascinator to a wedding this summer. Never worn one before. Can't get a hat cos it's abroad and will get squashed in my suitcase.

Then again, I need to find a dress first before worrying about the hair (shopping this weekend!)

ragz134 · 26/04/2017 16:41

I bought mine on eBay, it came with a dress I bought. It would have cost £40 new - I had no idea they were that expensive!

User2468 · 26/04/2017 17:48

Royal Ascot now no longer allow them as part of their dress code so take from that what you will.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 26/04/2017 20:37

Actually Royal Ascot only will not be allowing them into the enclosures.

You can wear them elsewhere.

but Debenhams IS SHIT
No one wants to look like that

Mistoffelees · 28/04/2017 18:46

I will be wearing a polyester floral skirt and top with a pashmina and Debenhams fascinator to a wedding soon (also abroad, I'm wearing my fascinator on the plane to avoid squashing!!) And I will look and feel fabulous! Where do people who are snobby about Debenhams shop?? That's about as posh as it gets for me!

ihatethecold · 28/04/2017 21:36

I've just bought a fascinator off Etsy.
There's quite a few on there.

Mrstumbletap · 28/04/2017 21:41

I think they can look beautiful

wouldn't flowers in hair look nicer?

MrsMoastyToasty · 28/04/2017 21:45

I went to a wedding last August and I was the only person wearing a fascinator. Nobody wore a hat either, not even the happy couple's mothers.

Mistoffelees · 28/04/2017 21:47

rosawitch I had flowers in my hair when I was a bridesmaid, they looked wilted and floppy before we sat down for dinner.

MrsMoastyToasty · 28/04/2017 21:49

I would rather wear a fascinator than a hat because I have a tiny bonce and I also feel that a hat brim "competes" with my spectacles. Plus I like to wear my currently in between lengty hair tucked behind my ears and a fascinator holds it back.

JoyceDivision · 28/04/2017 21:52

look at these!!!

Millybingbong · 28/04/2017 21:55

I'm going to buck pal too. Does anyone know whether my dress has to be long? I've got lots of knee lengthers.

I was going to hat up. Reluctantly
not excited about this

ihatethecold · 28/04/2017 21:56

I'm wearing a knee length dress to buck palace Milly.

ToffeeCaramel · 28/04/2017 21:59

Love the squid and elephant ones Joyce.

thenightsky · 28/04/2017 22:02

I went to Buck House when 5 weeks off giving birth. I don't recall anything but hats. I hired hat and mat dress.

Mermaidinthesea123 · 28/04/2017 22:03

Yes they are ghastly, old hat Grin I cringe when I see one.

GoatsFeet · 28/04/2017 22:05

Fascinators are naff. They're vulgar. Traditionally they were worn for cocktail parties. Nowadays they just look as if the person wearing one can't cope with a proper hat.

JoyceDivision · 28/04/2017 22:09

i luff the cherry skull fasciator ... if a v rich perso reads this please let me have it
