Thought I'd start a thread for anyone who finds capsule wardrobes in muted tones tedious as feck.

Ditto little diamond studs and designer bags with glossy bobs.

I personally admire the style of Alys Fowler and Helena Bonham-Carter.

Also love a bit of Gudrun/Lagenlook and other cheerful offerings.

A successful charity shop rummage is a joy to behold. I like messy hair, well -loved clothes and making my own stuff too.

Anyone else?

Swedish hasbeens - they're lovely. Will post pic

Greenglassteacup · 25/04/2017 14:33

Beautiful

I have Lotta from Stockholm clogs, which are usually a lot cheaper than Hasbeens.

Greenifer · 25/04/2017 15:49

I have some Magubas but I'm not sure I've quite cracked walking in them. They are very beautiful, though.

Greenglassteacup · 25/04/2017 16:33

Ooh yes broomsticks, they are gorgeous. Are they comfy?

mimiasovitch · 26/04/2017 10:49

Talking of clogs I've been wearing these a lot. I wanted a change from ankle boots, for which I have an unhealthy adoration for, and these have been amazing. As they've a soft sole, they're more comfortable, and easier to walk in than the standard wooden sole.

I have Lotta From Stockholm clogs (aubergine, closed toe) but since I've been running more my feet have got bigger and they now pinch Sad And not safe to drive in.

mimi, what make are the ones you posted?

EmmaWoodlouse · 26/04/2017 16:05

I'm a bit of both (in fact, as an earlier poster said, I change my mind a lot about what style I like, but broadly speaking there are two strands to my style).

Black, cream and various shades of light brown (honey/toffee/taupe) really suit my colouring, so I do wear them quite a lot - but I still want to be "different", so I look for interesting shapes, textures and sometimes bold prints or stripes. I never wear small jewellery (apart from wedding/engagement rings), partly because I think it's a bit boring and partly because I'm not physically a small person and the proportions would be all wrong. I love big, unusual necklaces and earrings, usually not both together, and I often wear lots of bangles together. mostly from charity shops.

But then other days I do wear lots of colour. I'm not quite the sort of person who'd mix a whole rainbow in one outfit (I admire those who do, but it's not quite me), but I like wearing a colourful print and then accentuating one or two of the colours with accessories. Favourite brights to wear are purple, orange, green, yellow.

I love slightly quirky brands of shoes like Art, FitFlop and Fly (and Ruby Shoo, but I wish they'd make more low heels), but have rarely owned any as they're a bit out of my price range! Hardly any of my clothes are expensive, and probably about half (I'd like it to be more) of the non-underwear items I wear regularly are second-hand. I customise things too, all in the hope of being "different". (I think I'm still making up for being unintentionally different at school 30+ years ago, by doing what I should have done then and defiantly cultivating a "different" look instead of being apologetic about not being able to afford the latest thing.) I love slightly quirky brands of shoes like Art, FitFlop and Fly (and Ruby Shoo, but I wish they'd make more low heels), although I have more conventional ones too, just because of the cost!

SlipperyJack · 26/04/2017 16:50

Can I get your honest opinions on this top? It's Edinburgh Woollen Mill which us where I go to buy my 80 year old mum her clothes, but I spotted it in the window as I was walking past and I really like it.

I'd probably wear it with khaki jeggings and cherry DMs.

NevermetaGilesIlike · 26/04/2017 17:14

Slippery step away from it now. That is biddytastic.

I think it would take a lot of accessories to make it work slippery. Cherry DMs and a chunky scarf and hat combo, maybe?

BroomstickOfLove · 26/04/2017 17:52

I reckon you could carry it off if you have olive/light brown skin and glossy black hair, or very very dark skin, but otherwise probably not. Or if you were very thin with grey/platinum blonde hair and looking deliberately old-ladyish. But it's not quite frumpy enough to do that with.

mimiasovitch · 26/04/2017 17:56

Slippery - these are by Ten Points, bought from Lotta. Honestly very comfy, with a non slip sole. They also come up big. I buy a 7 in the Lottas, but I could have gone down a size in these. I didn't, as I was too impatient to send them back.

SlipperyJack · 26/04/2017 21:10

Sigh. I know you're all right. (I have pale skin and greying blonde curly hair.)

There's a market stall in our town that does nice lagenlook-type stuff though. Mostly Italian, going by the labels.

SlipperyJack · 26/04/2017 21:10

Thanks mimi!

Chinnychinnychinnychib · 26/04/2017 21:32

Slippery, that tunic could work with mustard tights and a green cardi

Dowser · 26/04/2017 21:35

I'm an age where I should be wearing beige ( 65)..but no way.

I'm still channelling my inner teenager.
I like floral dresses. Sleeveless. ( bing o-o-oh) not bothered! With a waist. Skater style.

Can't do these straight up and down dresses, I have boobs, hips and belly.
Muted colours..not for me.

My hair is quite long. I wear it down when it's not windy, or in a ponytail and I attach a bow to the band to pick up one of the colours in what I'm wearing...which usually matches my earrings.
There I've outed myself now :-)

I like joe brown dresses...I have a few. Not the boho ones though. Although I like them.

It's a bad day if you catch me wearing trousers....I'm off to the osteopath.

Love shoes. The quirkier the better.

I don't care if I look fashionable or not. I dress to suit myself.
Dh doesn't complain.
He has nice taste. Helped me pick my wedding dress...three times!

Dowser · 26/04/2017 21:37

Love ruby shoo but y s could do with an inch and a half to two inch heel

Have a look at joe brown shoes, sometimes they are a bit lower.

Dowser · 26/04/2017 21:39

Im wearing these to a wedding next month...if I can get into my pale , green lace dress

Does anyone on the thread have bright hair? Do you do it yourself or get it done at the hairdressers?

Whirltime · 28/04/2017 11:42

I would love bright hair. Just dont have the confidence to pull it off

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 28/04/2017 12:01
