10 year old DD needs to up her game in the style stakes...

Took DD to a party yesterday and it suddenly dawned on me that her classmates have got all trendy. It's all ankle boots and bomber jackets, gilets etc. Poor DD still seems to be blissfully unaware of all this business, but is starting to stick out like a sore thumb with her tat purchased for a song on ebay- ancient clobber. Boden & its ilk clearly not going to cut it now. Not sure where to go to buy her suitable stuff. Zara? Not loaded. Pls share your tips……

If shes got the balls not to follow the crowd and be an identikit fashion slave, good for her. Fashion is for sheep.

Why are you trying to change this about her? She is perfectly happy and confident, leave her to her own style.

Let her choose her own style and clothes don't assume she wants to follow the crowd. Expecting her too could lead to her suddenly feeling the need to change to fit in. Friends will accept her for her not her clothing.

Don't change her- she'll ask as soon as she notices and until she does, that's great.

My blissfully unaware dd who was your daughter once is now almost 15 and still dresses just as she pleases.

My dd 10+11 like H&M. But following her own style is something that you should be proud of.

Unless she's unhappy and self conscious about it then let her be. It's not about you and what you think.

My dd's school had a dress down day recently and the amount of 6 year olds dressed like mini adults was disturbing.

Your DD sounds fab. I agree with everyone else, let her develop her own style and not follow the sheep.

Zara is great for 10 year olds. My DD (12), who is not very advanced in puberty, wears a judicious mix of Zara and Boden and looks great.

One of my dd's is 10 in a few weeks, she dances to her own tune fashion wise. She will wear bright leggings with next ankle boots with leopard print on them and a lacy top or a fluorescent ice cream shade top, finished off with her black bomber jacket or school coat depending on how cold it is.

Dd, almost 12 is into ripped jeans and adidas trainers with cropped adidas hoody. ( crowd following )

Let her wear what she feels comfortable in, my dd( 10) knows she dresses differently to her peers and couldn't care less.

Maybe taken her shopping with you and see what she likes? Don't point her in any specific direction and give her some input in her own clothes.

My 10 year old hasn't got a clue. Looks lovely in a very non trendy non girly way. Wears what she wants.

Apparently someone asked her when she was going to dress like the other girls the other day ... she came home very proud of that one!

When I was dishing out refreshments at the school disco, I noticed a really wide range of clothes styles for the girls (middle school, so youngest can be 9, oldest 13). The boys all seemed to be pretty much the same.
If your dd is happy, then I wouldn't worry too much, but if you choose her clothes rather than her, maybe its time to start getting her to decide so that she has her own look rather than yours iyswim

H&M is pretty cheap and the clothes are nice and my 12 year old niece likes New Look. I don't see any harm in taking her shopping and seeing if she likes anything.

I'd echo what others are saying. Let her do her own thing and make the most of it! My dd (11) was all Mini Boden until about 6 months ago and I loved the way she dressed - now she's all about the ripped jeans and adidas just like all the other tweens round here. Whilst it's lovely to see her finding her fashion sense I would love to see her being a bit less of a 'sheep'!!

If so, let her carry on if she wants to.

First of all - she's 10!!!! She doesn't need to up her game at all!

I think most parents would be proud that their dd wants to look the way she wants to look, rather than blindly following the crowd. But by all means, criticise her and point out that she doesn't look the way she's supposed to. See how that works out for you.

My 11 yo niece loves H&M too. Not too fussed with fashion but loves stretchy black clothes that she can dance around and do the splits in lol

Primark, h&m, new look. River island do a kids range but I think it's too adult really.

Why? She's 10 if she's happy with her current clothes then leave her alone

Fashion is for sheeps, like when I see a group on teenagers in the town here All have similar clothes, same hair colour etc no individuality at all

my parents gave me a set clothing allowance and I used to get my own style from that, although I was about 12 I think when they gave it to me. I loved shopping for my own trends and never followed others, although I have a painful memory of many a mistake and being laughed at by the sheep. I loved flying suits, had them in loads of different colours, (I am 52 so we are going back a few years) let her dictate her own style (within reason)

It sounds like you dress her or at least buy her clothes, so she just puts on what she has. Involve her in picking what you buy, she may suddenly come out with something she says she's always wanted. My dd who is 11 likes to do her own thing but wouldn't be seen in a boden dress anymore, she's has an 18 yo sister who is all punk rock, so she tries to copy but obviously I have to curb it a lot. Although she hates shopping unlike most of her friends who can shop for hours and she hates make up. I love this about her, lol
