Fantastic Skincare - Snail Optional 🐌

Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether previous threads are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Olli are burts bees lip balms any good? I'm on the hunt for a good one and I've tried sooo many!

mintmagnummm · 23/04/2017 06:36

Enid I find the burts bees cuticle butter is the best for this, in my opinion nothing really gets rid of this and nothing has beaten the burts bees butter at making it look a bit better.

Tsmummy08 · 23/04/2017 09:10

Just checking in after being ill for almost two weeks and feeling like crap after also putting my neck out! Can't remember the last time I was floored by a virus for so long - haven't even exercised over the last few weeks, which is unheard of! However, I've just finished catching up on the thread and I'm feeling well enough to be a bit more active soon :)

Skin's doing well though and I have an interesting retinol vs. Retin-A experiment underway at the moment which I'll report back on in when I'm feeling more awake!

Dulcimena · 23/04/2017 11:30

Is this the Burts Bees stuff? www.burtsbees.co.uk/natural-products/body-hands-and-feet-care/lemon-butter-cuticle-cream.html

Also, just wanted to report that I picked up the Palmers AHA body lotion yesterday and I think they've changed the fragrance again, it doesn't smell as awful! It seems to have gone back to that citrussy-cologne smell that it had originally. It may change as the day goes on but right now I'm feeling optimistic Grin

mintmagnummm · 23/04/2017 11:49

Yeah that's it dulci

olderthanyouthink · 23/04/2017 12:36

If you use aha on your body do you have to use sun cream all over?

userallusedup · 23/04/2017 12:36

I'm currently using badger balm for cuticles - it's very similar to the Burt's Bees one and similarly effective, makes them look better but doesn't get rid of those annoying side ones completely. If there is anything out there that does I'm all ears!

userallusedup · 23/04/2017 12:45

older I personally wouldn't but I'm a very cold person so even in our typical British summer the only parts of me not covered by my clothes are my lower arms (sometimes), hands and upper chest. I have started using SPF 50 on those bits already.

I'm not an expert on sunscreen by any means though as have only very recently started bothering with it at all Blush so I could be wrong thinking clothes act as effective protection.

I don't currently use actives on my body but am thinking of trying the palmers one.

EnidButton · 23/04/2017 13:06

I have lots of the Burts Bees balm. I apply it every night. It's fairly good but then the next morning they look dry again.

EnidButton · 23/04/2017 13:08

Take it easy TS Flowers

olderthanyouthink · 23/04/2017 13:24

Anyone want a challenge? I've been meaning to ask this for a while but I haven seen my brother in a while, his skin doesn't look great.

I'm with my family at the London marathon today so I've got a chance to look at his face and take a few photos. My mum asked me what she should use on his face but I don't remember much success with products just time (and make up - badly).

To add to the challenge he's autistic, complicated routines won't be done and nothing can sting/tingle because he won't let that touch his face again.

Skin type feels dry, spotty
Age 17
Primary skin concern spots
Routine 😂 he gives his face a half arsed wash in the shower with Dove bar or body wash and those fluffy scrub things (you'll have to pry that thing out of his cold dead hands).
Make up none
Occasional treatments nope
Tried in the past I think the neutrogena spot gel and clean and clear cleanser (not sure which one) because I had them ages ago. Can't remember what the gel was like and I don't think he liked the cleanser because it stings
Things that are working nothing
Dietery/health Autism, Learning disabilities, hay fever, puberty
Spend £20
Want help with "teenage spots" (his words) and dry patches

I think I'm asking for the impossible. A couple simple things my mum can make him do when he's brushing he's teeth?

olderthanyouthink · 23/04/2017 13:29

user I guess if clothes aren't sheer they provide some protection. I'm kind of interested in aha for my legs got ingrown hair, most of the time I were jeans at the moment but I might break out the skirts more soon.

olderthanyouthink · 23/04/2017 13:33

I forgot to mention my brother smears some of this on too

botemp · 23/04/2017 14:01

You're throwing me for a loop there otyt, let me think on it a bit. Is it full blown autism or high functioning? I only really have experience with people in the latter category (Asperger's, forgive me if this isn't the correct term) so am wondering how resistant to change he would be. Have carved some time out to address the other questions and my response to the suncreen first vs. last debate later tonight -provided I don't fall asleep.

SUNDAY SUPPLEMENT

We can't seem to get over The Ordinary... Ratzilla's take and Lab Muffin's Part 2.

I've hated anything Sunday Riley (and specifically GG) but I know it weirdly has its fans despite the issues with marketing, price, and formulation. I have always found it odd that Lactic Acid is so underrepresented when it's a stellar ingredient, some interesting contenders live among here: The Hunt for a Good Genes Dupe: 17 Lactic Acid Reviews. I would be remiss to point out that the P50 reviews are a bit questionable as she didn't use them per BR's method of introduction in terms of product and progression of the products. Remember every time someone bad mouths the P50 a little skincare obsessed angel dies.

More on Telomeres and a reminder I still need to buy that book Anti-ageing report: how to turn back your genetic clock

BBB's Wednesday Diary which kind of blew my mind with the whole pods program (which is a sort of half humanised bot version to ensure reciprocal engagement with other blogs - always wondered why so many of the comment sections on blogs these days are other bloggers pimping themselves). She also has a huff about the Cosmo article about 'Beauty Bloggers Can we trust anything they say?", was wondering if this was the same article that featured Dr. Sam or if Cosmo is declaring a full-on war on the beauty bloggers now .

Speaking of Beauty Bloggers this post, A Week in the Life of a Beauty Influencer, from fanserviced-b made me exhausted just reading it, insightful regardless and a really bad motivator for me to get my act together with all the backlog of resources I promise to consolidate in a blog any day now.

Sorry bo Grin
He's full blown autistic. I don't think he'd be too resistant, you can get him to do stuff if there's a reason e.g. Drink the yucky medicine because it will help your ulcers.

I've attached photos so you can see, not like he has acne acne thought it's better than it was when I saw him a couple months ago.

Today I ran my first half marathon. My Elta MD APF did not let me down. That is all. For now. Am in the bath. Over and out.

RubyGoat · 23/04/2017 15:59

Congratulations! Go you!
(I'm still trying to complete C25K. About to re-start it. Hopefully...)

mintmagnummm · 23/04/2017 16:38

Olderthanyouthink can I please recommend something very simple and easy for him.....dermalogica ultracalming cleanser (cheaper online) this is really good and it can be rinsed off really easily either in shower or at sink, with or without a flannel or cloth. It is really thorough but extremely gentle and rinses clean with no residue at all! Then apply face theory moisturiser, I think the signature moisturiser (m1) would be best for him, he only needs about half a pump or even less (it goes really far!)

mintmagnummm · 23/04/2017 16:40

Meant to say as he's still only 17 I wouldn't bother with anything else and these two simple products should make a difference. Then maybe later he could introduce a serum bug for now I think keep it quick and easy but effective

Dulcimena · 23/04/2017 17:45

Well done Pupsie!!!! Star

olderthanyouthink · 23/04/2017 18:40

Thanks mint I'll look those up when I get home

Tsmummy08 · 23/04/2017 20:42

Woohoo, well done Pupsie!!
