Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether previous threads are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Bo I'll have a go with the 30% stuff at the weekend and report back. By the way I used the Mommy UV Mild Gel that you rec-ed a while back for the first time this morning. The packaging is just adorable Easter Smile and it is definitely moisturising! I will need to play around with what I use with it though - an hour in and it's still quite shiny on my face.

bananafish81 · 20/04/2017 10:03

Great thanks @botemp @mintmagnummm - I'll have a look at the ingredients of the LRP Toleriane cleanser and see if I can identify any possible culprits

I think it's pretty clear it's def the LRP, as I was both tingly and slightly itchy after cleaning this morning (before using anything else).

Think it's probably therefore not for me - just ironic given it's for sensitive skin, and I've never had a reaction to any actives or anything with alcohol in it ever before! The only ingredient I've never got on with is shea butter, which broke me out - never had any irritation before.

Oh well always a first time!!

If I ditch the LRP, could I use the superdrug HCC both am and pm? Could I add in micellar water in the evening for a double cleanse? Or am I better leave the superdrug vit E for pm only and finding something different to swap for the LRP?

Thanks so much for incredibly helpful advice!

mintmagnummm · 20/04/2017 10:13

Banana if budget allows id really recommend dermalogica ultracalming cleanser, I've used it for years.

I had pilling again this morn Sad any ideas anyone??

CardinalCat · 20/04/2017 10:15

Hi, newbie to thread but have been following avidly.

I am 41 and have ok skin. The odd hormonal acne spot on my chin now and again, and I think I am getting quite lined under the eyes (I am considering some laser treatment under the eyes if I can pluck up the courage and plan the recovery time.) On the whole though, I think my skin is ok.

In the meantime, while I fret about laser, I have decided to focus on products. I have bought LRP Redermic Anti Ageing Concentrate, and the LRP Redermic Eyes Dermatological Anti-Wrinkle Treatment, which both arrived yesterday. Unfortunately however, the tube of eye cream exploded out of the bottom while I was trying to open it. The face cream opened without incident. Has anybody else had problems using these tubes? I am going to get in touch with Escentuals (who I bought them from) to see if this is a known fault, as I wasn't even squeezing very hard and it just erupted.

From just one application however I am really impressed!

I am currently using an spf 30 that I don't much care for, so I'm going to trawl this thread for a decent spf recommendation.

Looking forward to my TO niacinaminde arriving today or tomorrow Smile

Bo the Bioderma Photoderm Max Ultra-Fluide does seem to be waterproof these days?

www.bioderma.com/en/our-products/photoderm/max-ultra-fluide-teinte-claire-spf-50

botemp · 20/04/2017 11:50

Welcome CardinalCat, I hope Escentual will replace it for you. Am not too familiar with esthetic procedures and haven't read much about laser in use for fine lines around the eyes, do you have some links?

Pupsie, I'm always confused with Bioderma as the .com site I believe is the American one and the formulas are completely different, I usually just look at EPP for the INCI and waterproof claims, think the fluide I'm referring to from Biodema may very well be the Aqua Fluide to make it all the more confusing. Sorry.

Banana, you can probably use the HCC in the AM and as second cleanse if necessary until you have an inkling what the issue may be (possibly ethelyxyl palmitate which is in a lot of cleansers but can be an issue for some).

Think I'm gonna put hylamide back into routine as my skin looks a bit more dehydrated at mo, am wondering whether the spf is slightly dehydrating so I need something to add hydration back?? HmmConfused

Pupsiecola · 20/04/2017 13:32

Thanks bo.

EnidButton · 20/04/2017 16:33

Bo thank you. It was a different one and sorry I thought the link went straight to it. Their website is awful.

Wellhellothere1 · 20/04/2017 19:08

Hi could anyone recommend a moisturiser for oily skin that I can use after vit c application? I currently use Cerave PM moisturising lotion and I really like it but it contains niacinamide which I gather you shouldn't use in conjunction with Vit C. I feel vit c is making my skin brighter so would like to continue with it.
I was using TO vit c 23% at night but wanted to switch to morning for maximum benefit (and also to cut down the no of products I apply at night) so I am now trying TO ascorbyl glucoside 12% in the morning. The 23% one is too oily to wear under make up in the daytime. Very confusing!

userallusedup · 20/04/2017 19:21

wellhellothere I have oily skin but I use TO Vit c in the morning, I was worried it about it being too greasy or pilling but have not had any issues, I'm quite pleasantly surprised by that! I use hylamide sub q anti age serum over the top, followed with sunscreen. At night I use different TO actives followed by the hylamide serum again, then TO rose hip oil. I'm swapping the Rose hip for TO natural moisturising factors once it's used up but I haven't tried that yet so not sure what it's like. I don't mind being oily or shiny at night as long as whatever I'm using doesn't cause breakouts.

JDSTER · 20/04/2017 22:45

wellhello I too have oily skin and use Vit C in the morning. I know it looks oily on the skin but as long as I use primer, makeup goes on fine and doesn't cause my skin to be any oilier than it would be usually.

Anyway, in answer to your question for a moisturiser, La Roche Posay make one called toleriane fluid (not the ultra version which Boots only stock now) Here's a link m.lookfantastic.com/la-roche-posay-toleriane-fluid-40ml/11091886.html?_ga=1.65240622.1237020438.1462301137
It's being discontinued unfortunately (I've stocked up!) it's very light and designed for oily skin.

Wellhellothere1 · 20/04/2017 23:11

Thank you so much used and JD. I'll try the vit c under make up on a day I'm not up to much and see how it looks. I'll check out that LRP moisturiser too. Rubbish it's being discontinued!

EnidButton · 20/04/2017 23:23

Got the Soaper Duper hand soap in with my good delivery today. Just got the Shea and vanilla one to see if I liked the feel as Mint said it smells like cake. It does! It's really nice and doesn't feel drying at all. Huge bottle for £5 too. I like it. Thanks for the recommendation Olli and Mint

EnidButton · 20/04/2017 23:23

Ollivander84 · 20/04/2017 23:24

Cheapest LRP dermo cleanser I've found
800ml for £17 (boots bottles are 200ml)
https://www.easyparapharmacie.co.uk/la-roche-posay-toleriane-fluide-dermo-nettoyant-visage-et-yeux-2x400ml.html

Ollivander84 · 20/04/2017 23:24

Yay Smile glad you like it. I seem to need very little of it to get a nice lather too

EnidButton · 20/04/2017 23:28

Oh and I accidently mixed LRP toleriane cleanser with EH cleansing balm tonight and it felt tingly and slightly stingy. No problems with either product before so it made me think that there could be something in the LRP that doesn't mix well with others. Could you have had some residue left from the LRP before applying your moisturiser Lego? (was it Lego who had the tingly feeling the other night?) No idea what it means but worth thinking about. Might explain why I reacted badly to the cicaplast one night. Perhaps I hadn't rinsed/wiped the cleanser off properly.

Huge amounts of brain fog atm so hope that kind of makes sense.

EnidButton · 20/04/2017 23:29

Yes I didn't need much at all Olli it's really nice. Bottles are a weird shape.

EnidButton · 20/04/2017 23:32

Olli I just read on a chat thread that red heads have a higher pain threshold than anyone else. What with that and the vitamin D thing...impressive.

EnidButton · 20/04/2017 23:33

Sorry, it was Banana with the LRP cleanser issue not Lego.

You can tell when I'm ill from the multi posts. Blush

Ollivander84 · 20/04/2017 23:33

Ha apparently we also don't response well to anaesthetic - as in I have to say I need a lot of local please and they Hmm and give me loads then do ConfusedConfusedConfused when I say yeah it's worn off Grin
I ping awake after a GA and demand food and drink

olderthanyouthink · 20/04/2017 23:46

bo I figured AHA would help a bit from my googlings. I have TO LA 5% waiting to be used at some point.

EnidButton · 20/04/2017 23:53

Olli Grin I need loads of anaesthetic but wake up vomiting so can't have any redhead genes.

Ollivander84 · 20/04/2017 23:54

I do ask for anti sickness meds before so that probably helps. Having a nice glass of rhubarb and custard wine tonight!
