I've been ogling halo eyeshadow looks on Pinterest.

Tried it today and it just doesn't work for me. It just looks a bit weird! Also the overdrawing of lips - tbh I'm not the biggest fan but when I tried it, it just made me look like I had really uneven lips!

Also crew necked tops as I'm busty Grin

Anyone care to share theirs?

Crop tops ankle length trousers high waisted jeans all look bad on me

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 20/02/2017 12:40

Crop tops

Even when I was slim I hated them.

Halo eye-shadow works well for me but I completely agree with overdrawn lips.

I would love to wear bright red lipstick but it never suits me, I always look like Jack Nicholson's Joker in Batman. Even beauty counter staff and make up artists are flummoxed. I've tried the suits everyone shades like Ruby Woo but it always looks awful on me. Very dark wine lipsticks look great, but not bright red.

LoupGarou · 20/02/2017 12:42

Chelsea boots seem to look stupid on me up too, whereas other ankle boots look fine.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 20/02/2017 12:55

Red lips that wear you are just annoying. I love red lips and generally suit it, I have a couple which are just too much. I did love Russian Red by Mac but that's too bright. I prefer a brick red nowadays.

Yes, red lips. I love MAC Vegas Volt but I look about 50 when I wear it. It's far too harsh for me and just makes me look old (even though it's one of 'my colours').

Brown eyeshaddow. Makes me look like I've been punched. I can wear gold and copper but not earthy browns.

Cold shoulder tops and drop sleeve tops. They make me look like a linebacker.

Anything floral, floaty, frilly or lacy. I look like a man in drag.

I look about 90 if I wear cardigans.

White shoes. I have massive feet.

Anything low waisted. I'm high waisted so the flab just sort of hangs out.

MrsMeeseeks · 20/02/2017 13:34

What's 'halo' eyeshadow? I googled, but it just looks like normal Instagram-type eyeshadow to me.

Mine are:

Contouring - my face just looks dirty

Earrings - just look wrong on me

'Baking' concealer under the eyes: makes my fine lines look 10 times worse

Lonelynessie · 20/02/2017 13:58

Anything 'boho' or dipped waist just looks terrible on my very much hourglass figure, same for shift dresses, my tits are too big 😂 and they make me look like I'm wearing a box.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/02/2017 14:02

Those bloody great buns with a sponge thing in them. My hair is too fine.

MrsMeeseeks · 20/02/2017 14:02

Oh, yes: bralets. I am too old and too busty.

RebelandaStunner · 20/02/2017 14:16

Yes to high waisted jeans, they look awful on me.
Pleated skirts/A line skirts- instant grandma.
Trainers of any description.
Most flat shoes look crap.
Large patterns/anything remotely fussy.
Shorts/ minis without fake tan- legs are ghostly pale.

Floisme · 20/02/2017 14:34

Skinnies - but once everyone was wearing them I gave in because a) I'm a sheep b) I figured no-one was looking any more and c) they're great in the rain.
Leather leggings - skin tight and a sheen? No thanks.
Pleated midi skirts - so elegant from the front but they make my arse look like China.
Jump suits - likewise.
Anything floaty.
Biker jackets - which surprised me but I think it's too much going on in a confined space.

Feawen · 20/02/2017 14:40

Cold-shoulder or off-the-shoulder tops don’t suit me either. My shoulders are my widest point and I don’t like seeing them emphasised. Anything boxy or floaty plus off-the-shoulder is even worse, because I then look the same width all over.

Midi skirts cut me off at the widest point of my calves. My legs are actually all-right, but floaty midi skirts make them look wide and stumpy, rather than toned and muscular. It’s a shame, because in theory the fitted top with a floaty skirt is a nice alternative to the skinny jeans and oversized top silhouette. It works, but it’s getting monotonous.
Chelsea boots make me feel very silly. They remind me of jodhpur boots, and of being an awkward, horse obsessed child with big feet and skinny legs.

On the positive side, the 2016-17 colour palettes have worked in my favour. I suit icy and dusky pinks, silver/grey and cool blues, so I’ve done a fair bit of shopping this autumn/winter. I’m concerned that spring/summer will be all mustard-ish, though.

BusterGonad · 20/02/2017 15:01

MrsMeeseeks I agree about the eyeshadow, all make up techniques suddenly appear to have a 'name' now, tight eye liner??? Surely it's just eye liner done well??? Halo....just eyeshadow done a certain way which has been going on for years. Don't get me started on a cut crease! 😂

PiratePointyTits · 20/02/2017 15:06

Peplum tops/dresses. I look a badly stuffed bed with a valance sheet.

HubbleBubbles · 20/02/2017 15:08

Agree - biker jackets.. but I don't know why! Confused
Anything too frilly, layered,boho.
Midi skirts - yep cut me off at my netball players calves when actually my legs are good!
High necks (big boobs)
Leopard print - I love it on others but it makes me look tarty!
Red lipstick
Stilettos 👠

Things that do suit me: skinnies, leggings, a well cut shirt , parkas, combat pants , trousers that finish just above the ankle (slim ankles!) , black, scarves, very plainly cut things, most other jackets aside from Biker, all boots .

MorrisZapp · 20/02/2017 15:13

Not a trend but I can't wear any footwear with laces. I just look ridiculous.

I also tried so so hard a few years ago to wear the classic mum 'denim skirt, opaque tights, calf boots' look but had to give up. I just couldn't rock it.

BusterGonad · 20/02/2017 15:24

Maxi and midi skirts and dresses make me feel as if I've turnt into my mother!

Aoibhe · 20/02/2017 15:28

Jumpsuits
Heavy or winged eye liner
Dark hair
Converse

vitaminC · 20/02/2017 15:31

Anything with a waistline or belt loops. I have a very hourglass figure, but a long torso with short legs, so the waistline is always in the wrong place and looks ridiculous!

gleegeek · 20/02/2017 15:37

vitaminC what do you wear??? We sound a similar shape and I've lost my way with clothes... very bored of jeans/tshirt/cardI combo.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 20/02/2017 15:41

It is normal eyeshadow! Grin just darker in the inner and outer corners and light in the middle to make eyes looks bigger. I can't tell if it's just the colours don't suit me together or what. Whatever the reason I don't like the look.

I have a friend who is very into pinafore dresses and mini skirts over tights. She's got the figure for it, but she's 36 and it simultaneously ages her and makes her look childish (IMO of course!).

It's only an issue because she's offered me a few things she doesn't want anymore and I don't want to offend her by repeating that it's not my style. Ten years ago maybe, but not now.

I don't suit trousers at all. Any kind.

I used to be able to wear them (if very tailored) as part of a suit, with heels, but now that I can't wear heels, trousers of any kind just look wrong on me.

It's a shame as I would love to wear jeans for example, the only way they look half acceptable are Capri or skinny jeans rolled up, with a buttoned cardigan (sort of 50s style).

I am absolutely tiny, barely scrape five foot so I think this is why. I just look out of proportion. If anyone has any tips I'm all ears!

ThisThingCalledLove · 20/02/2017 15:49

Oh dear, I love a pinafore dress and am 40 Blush

HubbleBubbles · 20/02/2017 16:00

Oh god i love mini skirts and pinafore dresses too Blush am 37 . Have more or less weaned myself off pigtails though BlushBlush
