I'm very, very excited to go to my first wedding dress shopping appointment tomorrow morning!

I'm going to try and keep an open mind and try on all different styles even though I know what I want.

I love seeing other people's choices....anyone got wedding dress photos to share?

I had a fair idea what I wanted, full fluid skirt, fitted top, very plain no beading or lace and I actually ended up with exactly what I wanted. I listened to the lady and tried on all sorts of shapes, fabrics etc etc but as soon as I put the skirt on (it was separates) I shouted out of the changing room to my mum 'ooooh I think I like this one!) and once she laced me into the bodice that was it, I was in love! I knew I had found 'the one'. I only went to one shop and found it first try. This was about 18 months before the wedding and trough all the weddings fayres and magazines in between, I never saw a single other dress that made me doubt my decision.

If I were to get married now though, I would probably choose completely different but only because I'm not the same person I was then (if that makes sense!) as in body shape and taste/style has evolved as I have got older!

Loved mine (from around 7 years ago) have kept it - given that I don't have an occasion to wear ever again maybe I should do as you have done panic mode I love that idea. Or maybe I'll save for if my daughters want it..

This was mine in 2011, not on me.

I loved it.

Tweakie...could you dye yours a different colour and wear it as an evening dress?

This was mine (not on me). It was nothing like I had imagined My wedding dress to be but it just felt right when I put it on.

This is mine. I had wanted something plain and not fussy at all, but changed my mind when the lady in the shop suggested I try this on.

Fenella You look absolutely stunning.

Musicinthe00ssucks · 20/02/2017 18:34

This was mine but I think it looks a bit out of fashion now because the trend for strapless is over.

I promised you all a picture of my 80's meringue and here it is. Just looking at it makes me feel really nostalgic and I don't think there is anything I would change about it. I loved it then and I still love it now!

My wedding dress was from Outnet and wasn't a "wedding dress"

m.lightinthebox.com/en/A-line-Strapless-Chapel-Train-Wedding-Dress--fw09-wd111007-_p85096.html?prm=1.2.1.1. Mine. Knew it was the one the moment I saw it and ordered not holding out much hope after reading many bad reviews. It was perfect.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/02/2017 20:30

Loving all these dresses Smile

TheCraicDealer · 20/02/2017 20:40

I'm getting married in September and this is mine. I was insistent I didn't want strapless or lace which instantly cut a lot of dresses out, but that was a good thing. Obviously this is not me- I have a lot more junk in my trunk Grin Can't wait until it comes in and I get the alterations done!

This is the dress I ordered yesterday. We're having a low key wedding in June and I don't want to pay a fortune. This beauty is mine, for the sum total of £80!

I had an Ian Stuart. The second two pictures show it in the colour I had (taupe)

It featured in the V & A Iconic Wedding dress exhibition.

I saw it, fell in love with it, had a huge wobble two weeks before the wedding and was persuaded to wear it (and love it again) by a bunch of brilliant MNers Grin

Agree with the poster who said have an open mind and try anything and everything on. You will be stunned at what does or doesn't suit you.

I went looking for something simple Blush

catinbooots · 20/02/2017 21:12

We should sooo have an MN method when we all wear our wedding dresses.

That would make MY LIFE.

fruityb · 21/02/2017 08:41

Try everything on! You never know what might suit you and surprise you!

StewedFruit · 21/02/2017 09:52

mangomay please can you tell me where your dress is from? We're getting married later this year and have a very small budget

jcscot · 21/02/2017 10:14

I knew what I wanted originally (a white version of Audrey Hepburn's dress in Breakfast at Tiffany's) but my my mother persuaded me that as I am short and my husband is tall and would be married in blues, I might look a little underwhelming in a simple column dress. So, I tried on loads of dresses and hated them all - this was in 2000 so everything was strapless and heavily embellished and just footy and "not me". Then I tried on an eye-wateringly expensive Jasper Conran dress that had bracelet sleeves and an off-the shoulder collar with a slight v back - and my mother copied and made the dress. Right up until the last minute, she wanted to embellish it in some way becauae she was worried it was too plain but when she saw it on the day, she thought it was lovely. It suited me because it was pure white (ivory and cream wash me out) and had not a single embellishment or trim. I don't think it has dated as much as some of the other dresses I tried on would have. The best thing about it was that my mother made it for me.

Panicmode1 · 21/02/2017 11:37

Tweakie I thought I would wear my godmother's dress - it was absolutely stunning and she and I are similar heights and builds, but when it came to it, I wanted something unique (to me anyway)!. My mother's dress was too small for me, she's far too elfin and petite compared to me - so there was no way I could wear it - it was stunning but not 'me'.

So I decided that I couldn't bear to see mine wasted and perhaps never worn again, and I sold it very soon afterwards to a girl who couldn't afford it new - seeing her face as she left with it made me feel happy that someone else loved it as much as I did.

Perhaps my daughter will wear my 'wedding dress' jewellery on her wedding day - that would be a nice circle for it I guess.
