I'm very, very excited to go to my first wedding dress shopping appointment tomorrow morning!

I'm going to try and keep an open mind and try on all different styles even though I know what I want.

I love seeing other people's choices....anyone got wedding dress photos to share?

rahlikeatiger I LOVE yours! Who is the designer? That beadwork! swoons

FelixFelix · 19/02/2017 15:49

Pandarific that is stunning! Which designer is it by?

pandarific · 19/02/2017 15:57

It's by Rue de Seine. They have very very pretty things.

duxb · 19/02/2017 16:13

Mine was also Pronovias (and completely different to what I imagined wanting).

Ideally I wanted a lace sleeve job but they weren't in fashion at the time and I couldn't afford to get one made but still wanted something sleek and completely non-princess. Sales advisor told me to try this on for the shape and I just got that feeling.

So you're absolutely right to go with an open mind!

Loup your dress is amazing.

blueskyinmarch · 19/02/2017 16:23

These dresses are all utterly lovely. Mine was an 80s meringue. If I can find my wedding pictures I will take a photo and let you see it in all its poufe glory!

FelixFelix · 19/02/2017 17:10

Panda thank you! Turns out I already follow them on instagram Grin I didn't even realise you could go to a dressmaker and get something similar made. How stupid am I! How did you find a decent dressmaker?

I never like other people's wedding dresses but LoupGarou - OMG that dress is just gorgeous.

LoupGarou · 19/02/2017 17:40

Avery thank you Smile

ArriettyClock1 thanks! My actual dress or the one I secretly fantasise over now and am trying to engineer an occasion to wear it to? Grin

FelixFelix · 19/02/2017 17:41

Gorgeous Eclectic!

pandarific · 19/02/2017 17:52

felixfelix I joined a Facebook group about Chinese wedding dresses and requested recommendations for etsy sellers as I have always had good experiences with their sellers and I like the fact that you can read reviews of the seller. A lady called Mary at Lacemarry was recommended and her dresses are gorgeous - she specialises in lace and has her own designs as well as custom making dresses. www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LaceMarry

I'm loving seeing all of these fabulous dresses.

I can't find a picture of mine - it was a Sassi Holford (Gabrielle) from 2001 and was absolutely beautiful.

I couldn't bear to think of it languishing on top of a cupboard so I sold it and bought some diamond and emerald earrings, which my mother matched with the necklace, so when I wear them, I think of my wedding day!

mamatiger83 · 19/02/2017 19:17

I'm really interested to know what made people choose their dresses? Like what was it about that one that made you have that that's the one moment?
Mine was: I knew from a young age I wanted a big ballgown, and it had to be pure white and have a decent train, sweetheart neckline, be strapless and have some sparkle on the top. And it had to be a zip back not a corset back. I also knew o wanted a long two tier veil as I wanted my face covered to walk in.
We were only engaged 3 months, and I knew I'd be 4 and a half months pregnant the day I got married. I had a look on the website of the bridal boutique I went to, and saw a couple I liked. I tired one I liked online first and it was okay, but they only had it in Ivory. (I had to buy a sample dress, as there simply wasn't enough time to have one made, which was fine).
So I was looking through a rack full of ivory dresses, and there was 1 white dress in the middle. So the attendant got it out. It turns out it was one of the ones I'd seen online but wasn't too keen on. But it was a white ballgown with train so I tried it on. And fell in love. (With the first dress they had a full length 2 tier veil in Ivory). I loved the veil and wanted it. So there I was stood in the shop with this dress on, and the assistant went to see if they had the same veil in white, and they did!! I couldn't believe my luck. She put the veil on, I looked in the mirror and cried. It was like it was meant for me, like among all them Ivory dresses, was a white one meant for me. That's when I had that moment. (Ironic that I didn't like it much online, but loved it in the flesh so to speak). So glad I only tried on 2 dresses as well.
The seamstress who works in the shop was brilliant. She left herself less time to do the final alterations, because my final fit was less than a week before the wedding day, the reason being I was pregnant, and I didn't know how much I'd be showing. And because I didn't want a corset back, we had to leave the final fitting as late as possible. But she did it. I got my zip up back, and the dress was a prefect fit. No pulling it up at the top. (And I've been told you couldn't tell I was pregnant- which is what I was aiming for).
Sorry that was longer than I intended. But that's my dress buying story. Anybody else want to share theirs?

FourForYouGlenCoco · 19/02/2017 19:57

Totally outing here, but hey ho. I love, love, loved my dress. Was totally not what I thought I'd want, but it was just perfect. I was a bit greedy though and had 2 dresses - we had our reception in a pub garden (a nice one!) and I thought froofing around in my giant dress all day would be a bit much, so changed dress halfway through the day to a more low-key one. My second dress was still the greatest bargain ever - £32.50 in the Debenhams sale. My main dress is in the loft, the other one is in with all my other clothes - maybe I'll wear it out with DH sometime Grin
