what has happened to you? Terrible colours and shapes. Hard to imagine anybody looking good.

It's kind of... Wild West Nana.

FiveShelties · 31/01/2017 14:12

Still love their bras, knickers, nightwer and HeatGen tops. I buy all my tee shirts there because they are the perfect length for me, wash well and last for ages.

That cardigan is weird, my dog would love the tassles.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 31/01/2017 14:12

Primalass they get told time and again what people want and ignore it.
I have no idea why they are intent on sabotaging themselves.
In these days of leggings and skinnies it shouldn't be hard to work out people want long sweaters and tunics but no...good old M &S knows best. It's very odd.

Just been in Sainsburys as it happens, a large one and could have easily bought 6 or 7 things.

Eatingcheeseontoast · 31/01/2017 14:26

Just walked through for the first time in a while and oh dear - the colours!

Yellow, pale surgical appliance pink, murky green...and then bright primary. Nope.

PrimalLass · 31/01/2017 14:28

I agree LuxuryWoman2017. It's not difficult, is it?

Eatingcheeseontoast · 31/01/2017 14:28

This is really bright in real life - very few people can wear yellow and not look like a lost lifeboatman.

Oh dead oh dear M and S
LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 31/01/2017 14:56

Grin MAN THE LIFEBOATS!

NapQueen · 31/01/2017 15:03

someone is having a larf

NapQueen · 31/01/2017 15:05

arf

DonaldFlump · 31/01/2017 15:08

How can they even SAY 'Tapered trousers are designed to flatter' on the description? Tapered trousers are SO UNFLATTERING. At best they make the wearer look like they're in Johnny Hates Jazz circa 1987, and at worst they give you serious parsnip leg.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 31/01/2017 15:09

Oh my fucking life, what is that tallow thing?

I just took a wander through on the way home, they have a huge sale in ours which has been going on for 3 weeks and they can't give the stuff away now, there's loads left.

I used to like the perfumes, I thought some were great for a day to day work scent - no testers available - not a single one.
The lights were very dim which lends an air of gloom even that yellow monstrosity couldn't life.

Underwear, everything seems padded and or scratchy, not my cuppa but I know still popular with lots of people.
The winter nightwear was terrible I used to like their slouchy jersey separates but the colours were awful this year. I did buy a nice pair of winter boots a few weeks ago that are 'bagging' round the foot, and boots are made for walking you know?
They seem to think that anyone over 35 is 'old, middle aged' In the way some women were in the fifties and sixties perhaps. The clothes that might appeal to a woman in her seventies perhaps are far too expensive now, she will probably head to Bon Marche or Matalan and get similar much, much cheaper if she's on a limited clothes budget, she may have gone to BHS before it closed and Littlewoods before that.

I can't see mine staying open much longer and it's a pity.
I am heading to Sainsbury's at the weekend for the gorgeous baby blue handbag and the Navy converse style plimsolls. The kind of staples I should be able to get in Marks.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 31/01/2017 15:10

tallow? Yellow!

margaritasbythesea · 31/01/2017 15:12

I am looking for a lovely dress Buster. Could you link?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 31/01/2017 15:20

Last item I bought was a skirt which I've worn twice in 6 weeks. I was unimpressed by a lot of the clothes, (style and fabrics).
Customers are loyal but they do eventually give up.
My DCs' generation might look for slippers for gifts for older family members or undies but nothing else.

Starting to think they ought to stick to food.

TwoTwentyGowerRoad · 31/01/2017 15:20

That link! My eyes! Love their chocolate covered Brazils that is all.
If I wanted something in my life that shapeless and beige I would walk my neighbours Labrador. Grin

OCSockOrphanage · 31/01/2017 15:22

I did see a pale blue linen shirt in Autograph that I may yet go and try. Nice plain simple, long, and easy to wear with jeans or shorts. And I am quite tempted by the pony skin trainers, apart from the reviews which say they don't wear well.

SecretNutellaFix · 31/01/2017 15:23

Napqueen- are you sure they weren't taken from a satire site about M&S clothes?

Those are hideous

TwoTwentyGowerRoad · 31/01/2017 15:30

It's the quality (lack of) that pisses me off. My DH and I have been together 14 years. He still has some M and S tee shirts from before he met me. They are frayed at the neck so they are scruffers now but the quality is amazing and they have kept their shape and are really thick cotton. He bought some replacements a few months ago and they are terrible by comparison. Thin. They wrinkle really easily compared with the old ones and are just no-where near as good and starting to fray already. It's sad as at one time you knew you would get quality in Marks and Sparks.

Redbushforme · 31/01/2017 15:40

I went into a huge M and S at the weekend with items in mind. I'm going to a ( no black) funeral Sad so need a pair of navy trousers and a cream top (already have suitable jacket).
That shopping list shouldn't be difficult for M and S but came out with diddly squat. Trousers didn't fit or no navy or horrid polyester or not my size and no fairly plain tops to be seen. All were either t shirt material or had sodding embellishments of some sort or other.
Gave up and went elsewhere.

Redbushforme · 31/01/2017 15:43

Yes Twotwenty - I have a black shift dress which has the St Michael label in. It's about 25 years old. It's fabulous. Heavy weight fabric, beautifully lined and cut really well. Everything is so thin and cheap now.

domesticslattern · 31/01/2017 15:50

Sorry to confirm that the ponyskin trainers do not wear very well. Sad

nobodysbabynow · 31/01/2017 15:58

I've been in there today looking for a pair of those jeans they've apparently stopped making. Saw a different pair of slim high waisted jeans, only to find they had bloody sequins all over the pockets Hmm

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 31/01/2017 16:06

napqueen My eyes! Now a pop up ad for it keeps leaping out at me. It's very Pocahontas goes to a sock hop.

PetraDelphiki · 31/01/2017 16:26

That pink top might be good for my school 80's disco....

Iamastonished · 31/01/2017 19:44

And why do M and S only do pyjamas for short women?

I am 5'7", so not that tall, but all the pyjama trousers flap above my ankles (and halfway up my shins after the first wash). I have bought men's trousers before now just to get the length.
