what has happened to you? Terrible colours and shapes. Hard to imagine anybody looking good.

I know there are lots of posts about short tee shirts, but I think the length is perfect and I am 5ft 4ins. How long do people have their tee shirts? I am size 12 and find long tee shirts end up riding up over my bum and look all bunched up.

Of course, it could just be that I am a funny shape!

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 03/02/2017 22:38

I'm 5'2 and find most of their t-shirts and jumpers too short - and they often get even shorter and wider after a few washes.

Iamastonished · 03/02/2017 22:42

"and find long tee shirts end up riding up over my bum and look all bunched up."

That happens to me as well. My waist is much smaller than my hips, so fitted T-shirts always roll up.

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 03/02/2017 22:46

I think I may have just found my perfect outfit for Spring. I'm right in thinking this would be perfect for anything from work to day trips to a night in the pub to a night club, yes?

UnexplainedOnHerCollar · 04/02/2017 10:00

But people who want cheap fast fashion can go to Primark, H&M and New Look, who have a vague clue about what is on trend and keep up with it. M&S are terrible at that and act as if trumpeting one pink coat or leather skirt or something every season (which you can never find in the store anyway) equals being fashiony.

Instead they should do really nice tops, knitwear, jeans, dresses etc that cost a bit more but are quality, natural fabrics and not jazzed up to the nines. Those things can still be stylish and have a brand without attempting and failing to outdo primark.

kneesupfatty · 04/02/2017 10:27

The problem they now have is that people won't pay more because the quality is so often shocking. I would definitely pay more for quality basics in natural fibres, but they would have to be of genuine good quality.
For example, I have only recently thrown out a black merino wool jumper that I bought in M&S 16 years ago - it had been machine washed hundreds of times and had only just started to look too tired to wear. Contrast this to the couple of jumpers and cardigans that I bought last year - they looked tatty after only a couple of washes and only just lasted a single season.

EwanWhosearmy · 04/02/2017 11:09

I bought a smart blouse and skirt for an interview. Blouse is really itchy. DH asked me why I was dressed as Mrs Doubtfire.

The leggings and top nap linked to would really appeal to my DD. She's 9 Grin

everythingis · 04/02/2017 11:14

I buy the dd uniform in there but that's about it. I have defected to monsoon sales for kids clothes.
Few years back m and s had beautiful classic kids stuff - floral flannel pyjamas my kids love stuff like that - now only shit jersey. They have lost their way

woodhill · 04/02/2017 13:09

I had to throw out an angora M&S cardis from 2013, so bobbly. My Costco cashmere cardigan from about 2008 is still going with little pilling.

BlueEyedWonder · 04/02/2017 16:24

I will not hear a bad word about M&S after the sales assistant in the foodhall asked me if I was over 25 when buying alcohol. I'm 40 Grin

These days the only things I buy are cashmere jumpers, the odd underwear item, tights and greetings cards.

It's such a shame they don't go back to quality basics.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 04/02/2017 17:40

I went through today and saw a few bits I quite liked amongst the sea of ghastly.

They had some quite nice kitten heel slingbacks in various colours that were pretty cute. The nightwear new range is in and there are a couple of pairs of lounge trousers, the jersey type that are ok I quite liked the Fuschia ones.
Some very pretty bras and knickers but unfortunately the fabric seemed very scratchy.

Some decent homeware but nothing I couldn't buy in Sainsbury or even Wilko for much less money.

I said before on the other thread that they used to be an almost aspirational brand years ago, you know, if Auntie Joan was going to a wedding she might splash out on a dress from M & S. When I was young they were revered as a quality shop. The women of that era who felt a nightie from Marks was rather a luxury or at least certainly the best of the high street are now very old indeed or dead. (I'm nearly 50 so I'm probably harking back to the 70's and women who were my age now) and there was very little choice back then, Marks, perhaps John Lewis or the market in my town at least.

Now of course a 50 year old may well shop anywhere from Primark, Topshop, H & M and John Lewis and everything in between.
I really do hope they manage to turn things around, it would be a great pity to lose them.

BornStroppy · 04/02/2017 17:42

I just don't understand what their designers are thinking of. With all the art schools, fashion talent etc in this country, you'd think they'd employ competent designers, most of it is unbearable rubbish

Surreyblah · 04/02/2017 17:45

The branch in waterloo station has bugger all tights!

Downstairs is full of ugly workwear so they obviously want to sell to commuters like me. To find tights you have to go upstairs, right to the back of the store. Last time I went there were stockings galore but no bog standard opaques or nudes.

Basic stuff!

CactusFred · 11/02/2017 17:01

Just been in the massive store in Longbridge. Basically just a bigger quantity of things I don't want to buy.

I used to love Indigo but there was not one thing in that range I would wear this season Confused

VanillaSugar · 11/02/2017 18:04

Went into the outlet store in Doncaster yesterday. WtAF??? It's designed with my grandma in mind. The grandma who was born in 1920 and who died in 2013 at the age of 93. She would love that stuff 😢

Eliza22 · 13/02/2017 09:13

I don't understand why, year in year out, they ignore what their shoppers are saying and insist on trying to sell I'll Fitting, crap material, poorly designed shite.

I'm 54. I don't want to wear frills and flounces/over patterned Per Una. I'm searching for some well fitting linen style skirts for this summer, because personally, I don't want my knees on show. Nothing. Their longer skirts are SO old fashioned....I'm not ready for elasticated waists and floral wafty skirts.

I'm sorry, but in evolutionary terms, M&S clothing is a dinosaur and will die out if they don't sort themselves out. Undies and food, homewear and kids clothes. That's what they should concentrate on.

queenofthebucket · 13/02/2017 09:38

i walked through recently and saw simple casual linen blouse I liked. trying on may reveal a different aspect though.

woodhill · 13/02/2017 10:49

Per uNa used to be ok in the 00s but the only thing I buy there now is the trousers as they fit me ( I find trousers tricky and used to buy them from the original Principles not BDL one in Debenhams.

woodhill · 16/02/2017 17:29

Went today, it's okay but I couldn't find my size easily in jeans and ended up with a lighter colour.

Nettletheelf · 16/02/2017 18:23

I've just spent £250 online on Autograph stuff, and that was after the 20% Sparks discount. The good gear is there if you seek it out!
