what has happened to you? Terrible colours and shapes. Hard to imagine anybody looking good.

Ours looks like it's about to close down, awful clothes, dim lighting, the mannequins are shockingly dressed. It's like Matalan in there only 3 x more expensive.
Very sad, it feels like wilful sabotage the way they ignore their customers. I don't much rate the food these days either tbh, nice but not amazing for the price.

I honestly think sainsburys Tu are doing what Marks should be, safe fashion, decent quality at reasonable prices.

Anyone hoping to channel Strictly Come Dancing this spring?

flossis that was a particular horror! I have to say normally these threads appear and I have a look and there are usually something, but not this time.

DameVanillaSugar · 30/01/2017 22:29

That is truly hideous.

TheScottishPlay · 30/01/2017 22:37

Ours seems to be massively overstaffed. You can never get near the dubious coloured, too short, too expensive tops for huddles of plump, badly dressed middle-middle managers.

Touchmybum · 30/01/2017 22:38

I haven't bought any clothes in M&S for years. I used to like their linen trousers/shorts in the summer, and they did do a fairly decent style of leggings that didn't immediately slide down my tum!

Could take or leave most of the food these days as well. I do like their lean cooked meats, and their tuna paté! Oh and their 5 packs of knickers.

TheScottishPlay · 30/01/2017 22:38

I agree Luxury. Tu has become an M&S substitute for me.

Keeptrudging · 30/01/2017 22:42

I had £40 to spend in M & S at Christmas time (returned horrible present). It was horrible, I was quite shocked by how few items there were that were remotely wearable. Finally managed to get a dress, but it was a struggle. Their knitwear was terrible.

PickAChew · 30/01/2017 22:48

I did manage to spend a £5 off fashion, beauty and home voucher, today - on a boring pair of joggers - for just around the house as too thin for the school run when it's -2, but they were actual cotton(!!!) - and a new shower curtain!

I showed DH that pink thing. He asked where you stash your tissues.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 30/01/2017 22:56

I just can't figure out who they think will buy their clothes. I'm late thirties and haven't bought anything except food on m&s, and not for the want of trying.

Keeptrudging · 30/01/2017 23:01

There was a very old lady (possibly in her 90s) browsing beside me and she was making the same sort of faces as I was! Hmm

DonaldFlump · 30/01/2017 23:04

my best sale bargain this year was a pair of dangly earrings like gold snowdrops, £1.99 reduced from £15 - they look 5x the price on. If you like massive, architectural costume jewellery, there are more hits than misses in the M&S accessories dept. Also the Rosie make-up range is a brilliant rip off very inspired by Charlotte Tilbury.

Sadly, no such luck in the clothes dept. Even the smart little cardigans for wearing with pencil skirts are miserable, all mustard and slurry coloured, with boring buttons. I want to see M&S springing into cheerful life like a bowl of hyacinths/border of purple crocuses this time of year, not shoving their awful frumpy sarongs and beachwear front and centre ALREADY.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 30/01/2017 23:10

Oh the swimwear. Jesus the swimwear! Maybe if I'm 70 and its the 1970's. Otherwise, no. Just no.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 30/01/2017 23:11

I used to love their five pocket straight leg high waist jeans. They don't sell them anymore.

BikeRunSki · 30/01/2017 23:20

I just came on to say that I loved those jeans MsAdorable Sad

The M&S in Leeds' White Rose Centre is very empty, not empty rails, but lots of space between the various areas, and not at all crowded. They seem to keep if for their "best" stuff, there's usually the nicer beats of Autograph and Limited Collection in there, a very "edited" kids and Per Una section. I can usually find a gem or 2 in there, if not for me, for the DC. Last week - nothing.

PickAChew · 30/01/2017 23:24

Now an M&S with empty space is a rare thing! They mostly specialise in clutter!

flossisboss · 30/01/2017 23:25

@PickAChew I think the idea is the sleeves double as tissues

flossisboss · 30/01/2017 23:44

Just been having another browse and actually seen something I really like! That'll teach me to make jibes. It's a coat, it's £119, BUT it's 50% polyester! Am I being mean or is that a lot of money to pay for a polyester coat?

HoHumming · 31/01/2017 00:06

I bought something (other than bras) in there for the first time in years last week. It is a grey 'wool' jumper with trumpet sleeves. It was sold out online and I kept seeing it on blogger's istagram feeds. It is nice but short. Still unsure if I will keep it.

Am I correct in assuming M&S gift clothes to bloggers above a certain number of followers? This jumper was on at least three different blogs. It is an okay jumper but doesn't particularly stand out.

PinkPancakes · 31/01/2017 01:20

Agree M&S shoes and boots are great. Best comfiest Chelsea boots.

Bloodybridget · 31/01/2017 07:51

Wandering through M&S clothes section = instant depression. I did buy a pair of jeans I like a few weeks ago, they're men's.

JanuaryMoods · 31/01/2017 07:52

There is never a reason for mustard.

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 31/01/2017 07:58

This thread has reminded me, they've given me a fiver. I think I'll spend it on a nice lunch - or maybe pizza for the DC.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 31/01/2017 08:14

floss Yes it is expensive for what it is which is essentially why I don't buy their clothes. I do see the odd thing I like but when I see the price it stops me. Same with all departments, kids, home, men's. All overpriced.
