Frizzy hair issues

What is the best thing to stop frizzy hair? Tried all the lotions & potions out there but they don't seem to stop the hairs on the top of my head going mad even & doing their own thing.
Also, best way to get heathy shiny hair on frizzy/wave hair?

I joined the Facebook group. Loads of information but I think I may never emerge from it ever again! trying to read through all the files before I post. Who knew it was so complicated having curly hair? Protein, porosity, plopping, SRC, sotc GrinShock

Yesterday I got my hair cut and coloured, so started again with the baby shampoo and conditioner, plus I bought some of that pink Boots curl creme. Lots of bouncy curls, but still a bit separate IYSWIM!

While in the hairdressers, the issue of Cosmo that I was reading had an advert in for a new Herbal Essences daily detox shampoo and conditioner - stated to be silicone free. Something to watch out for?

specialsubject · 20/01/2017 09:45

As someone upthread said, try xtenso or wellastrate. They come in a choice of strengths, if you have coloured hair you use the milder version. You don't get dead straight, just combable shiny waves.

Done properly both should last a year. And I I've super fuzzy hair so if it works for me it will work for anyone.

margaritasbythesea · 20/01/2017 13:58

As a fellow redhead Slippery, would you mind telling me what colour you had done? I am contemplating something to cover grey but I have never coloured before and am very scared!

I've been trying out some Yves rocher silicone free stuff for curly hair. The conditioner is lovely and the leave in spray but the modelling spray made my hair lank and horrible.

Do I have to cowash every time my hair gets wet? I like a bath every night

CheshireChat · 26/01/2017 01:32

On one hand, I'm tempted to try this as I've got fairly curly hair.

On the other hand, baby shampoo and fairy are colour strippers and I've put in a lot of hard work to get to blue/ purple hair so I can't bring myself to do it.

I have noticed that bleaching got more or less rid of my bouncy curls and I'm left with nice, soft waves as long as I use some oil or serum. Probably a good thing as it suites my face better. Well, bleaching and growing it out so the curls are more stretched out IYKWIM.

I had my hair cut off then had a panic and posted on here. Anyway I've kept it short! These are my curls

Hoping to revive this thread!

If I do my final wash tonight, can I use Asda baby shampoo? It has sulfates but no cones.

Then I have silicone free conditioner but it has alcohol in. L'Oréal elvive extraordinary clay, or garnier ultimate blends the sleek restorer.

Can I start with these until I can get an alcohol free conditioner?
I also have no come free gel yet

SalemsCat · 28/01/2017 17:25

Place marking for solution to my crazy hair.

CheshireChat · 30/01/2017 15:13

Which deep hair conditioners/ hair masks do you guys use? I've been using the Aussie 3 minute one or the Toni and Guy reconstruction mask, but neither of them are making much of a difference right now.

margaritasbythesea · 30/01/2017 15:18

I'm wondering about salon conditioning treatments too.

HowardMoonsJazzTrumpet · 30/01/2017 15:50

The only mask that helps my fine, frizzy, pain in the arse hair is Aveda Dry Remedy.

I've tried loads - cheap ones like Tresemme, Pantene, L'Oréal. mid range ones - Charles Worthington, Toni & Guy, Lee Stafford, Umberto Giannini (basically I have cleared the hair section of Boots). Expensive ones - Redken, PK Elasticizer, Kerastase. Natural ones - coconut oil, olive oil and a hair oil by Fushi.

CheshireChat · 31/01/2017 20:40

I'll give the aveda one a try when I've finished one of the current ones. I do have the Umberto Giannini oil and that's really nice, but the Toni and Guy serum is better IMO.

I've been using the CG method for about a year now. I have really curly hair that just bounces back but gets really frizzy. Think Crystal Tips and Alistair. It's really helped my hair. I use Tesco proV B5 conditioner and the Tesco value hair gel, they're both cheap but have found them to be the best for me. I've not "plopped" ( hair in a t-shirt) for a while though.

chipsonthebeach · 31/01/2017 22:13

I've just read the whole thread, I love reading people's journeys! Woo, your hair looks fab!

I went properly CG about 6 years ago (had straightened it for almost 20 years before that!), but got lost after pregnancy, then illness and bad-for-my-hair drugs. I've found a new happy - lo-poo! So not pure CG, but use sulphate/silicone/paraben free shampoo. I have a lot of quite fine hair that gets weighed down easily by a lot of oil, so this suits. I wash most days, but can get away with just wetting it a bit in the shower and adding a small blob of conditioner if I don't want to wash.

My favourite products are the Noughty curly range (remember Naked? They disappeared but have been revived as Noughty) and Giovanni Smooth as Silk shampoo and conditioner, which you can buy from Holland & Barrett. Tresemme Undone conditioner is nice too. I don't use a different leave in conditioner, just a small blob of whatever rinse out I've used, on very wet hair. Then use some Curl Junkie Curls in a Bottle - bit pricey but the rest of my routine is cheap so I don't mind so much.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Eco-Styler gel? Buy it on ebay or amazon. Pretty cheap and easy to use. Boot pink curl creme? Hideous stuff! I've bought it every now and again at various points over the last 10 years and I just can't get it to work for me, I've tried, I really have.

Famous curlies - what about Cathy Newman?

chips which eco gel do you use - I have very fine hair too which can get weighed down by the wrong product and it pulls the curl out.

GohomeRoger · 11/02/2017 19:05

Totally inspired by woo, read the whole thread last night and decided to try wearing my hair curly again. I've been straightening for over 10 years, I've tried to go back to curly a few times but to be honest I feel really unattractive with my hair curly. I'm trying to get past that because I love and admire curly hair on others, and my DP and DD both prefer my hair curly.

Washed this morning with a clarifying shampoo, conditioned using cheap wilko passionfruit conditioner. Squeezed a tiny bit of the moisture out using a t shirt, then hung my head upside down and raked through some more conditioner, boots pink curl creme, and then scrunching jelly. I then scrunched the excess water and product out with a t shirt. Took about 4-5 hours to air dry.

I'm quite happy with the results. My curls are a bit stringier than I would like, obviously I've broken them up raking my products through so I'll have to find a different technique. Could do with some layers as well to give it a bit more va-va-voom. I've bought myself a silk pillowcase to see if it helps with the morning sideshow bob look, I'll let you know the verdict......

Thanks for the pep talk woo, it's a shame that for all the compliments I've had about my natural hair I only remember the negative comments. I have 2 daughters with curly hair and I'm not setting a good example of self love and acceptance by straightening my curls! I think your hair looks great, your perseverance has paid off, I just hope I can resist the temptation to straighten.....

Posting another pic because I had decent second day hair which is UNHEARD OF! Usually my curls have turned to dreds overnight, I would definitely recommend a silk pillowcase (I don't pineapple my hair because it gives me a headache). This morning I spritzed with water and then smoothed over some lube (never thought I'd hear myself say that.....)My sister in law who is a hairdresser even complimented me on my hair today.I didn't tell her my secret was lube though Grin. I'm getting my hair dyed and cut this week, going to be brave and get some layers.....

Oh and woo I just scribble my face out with a photo editing app on my phone. I don't have an identity to protect but I do look like a boiled egg with a face at the moment thanks to medication, not keen on sharing that with the world, just my glorious curls instead.
