Frizzy hair issues

What is the best thing to stop frizzy hair? Tried all the lotions & potions out there but they don't seem to stop the hairs on the top of my head going mad even & doing their own thing.
Also, best way to get heathy shiny hair on frizzy/wave hair?

I'm trying curl creme and i'm not that impressed, it says wet or dry but was like glue when I did it on their dry hair. I have to be careful as mine have lots of hair but its very fine so most 'curl' stuff weighs it down.

PrizeyPrize · 01/01/2017 20:14

Me neither Ponyboy don't rate it much at all. Hair didn't feel nice after using it. I generally have best results using no curl creme, saying that, Cantu curl activator is a good one, but I need only a tiny amount.

I have battled with frizzy hair all my life and have finally found products to suit. I use the Palmers olive oil smoothing shampoo, followed by their coconut oil repairing conditioner and then a little ogx argan oil. The shampoo and conditioner is aimed at the black hair market and I originally got it for my mixed race children.

woowoo I've not seen cantu on sale in shops, (maybe specialist shops) it's aimed at natural/afro Caribbean hair. I got mine on Amazon. There is a range called Shea moisturising who do a soufflé curl enhancing creme which I know is available in Boots. www.facebook.com/groups/707494335965428/ this FB is amazing.

Barktheheralddogssing · 01/01/2017 20:56

The gel I used was Alberto Balsam firm hold styling gel.

Great woowoo! Good luck.....I'll look out for you on the group Grin

Olaplex is added to the colour when you're getting it done, but it can be a stand alone treatment and there's a third step you can do at home. Im unsure as to whether I like it tbh. I loved it at first but I want to do the curly hair method and I feel it really does need to be washed out with shampoo which contradicts the whole thing. Plus it's £32 and you get 3 treatments tops

pinkmagic1 · 02/01/2017 08:19

Woowoo, I get it from the larger superdrug, Wilkinsons or any of the black hair care shops. I found the coconut shampoo too light and the olive oil conditioner to heavy but find the combination of the olive shampoo and coconut conditioner just perfect.

IJustLostTheGame · 02/01/2017 08:40

I've started making my own hair mask using olive, coconut and castor oil with a couple of drops of rosemary oil in (castor oil smells disgusting). I use it a couple of times a week. I slather it on for 20 minutes and wash it off with conditioner.

I've been doing it a few weeks and I have lovely soft shiny hair.

I also use mark hill humidity spray. It seems to stop my shiny, smooth hair turning into a brillo pad the second I leave the house

Newbrummie · 02/01/2017 10:00

Is the Mark Hill spray curly girl safe ? Might look into that.

Newbrummie · 02/01/2017 10:01

I can't imagine being able to get oil out with conditioner ... It really works ?

Mawsymoo · 02/01/2017 10:16

I picked up conditioner and gel in Tesco this morning and I'm going to give this a go - I've been straightening my hair since GHDS were first released. I currently wash my hair twice a week I assume I'll have to wash it more often with this method?

PrizeyPrize · 02/01/2017 10:22

Some oils will wash out with conditioner only. Coconut, Shea, olive, flaxseed, grapeseed all fine. Mineral, petroleum are not CG friendly because they won't Co wash out and will cause build up.
Good luck maws, they say to co-wash 2 or 3 times a week with this method.

poisonedbypen · 02/01/2017 10:26

what about CG for those with hair not long enough to tie up over night? How do you keep the curls?

PrizeyPrize · 02/01/2017 10:27

newbrummie not sure about the mark hill one, check the ingredients. m.wikihow.com/Determine-if-a-Hair-Product-is-Curly-Girl-Approved

PrizeyPrize · 02/01/2017 11:01

poisoned - Satin pillowcase, plop it, satin bonnet, pineapple up just the long bits on top. There's also this stretchy tube thing that people use, like a bonnet or a plop I guess.

gastromum · 02/01/2017 20:49

I'm going to give this a go!

Not sure what type my hair is though. When it is wet it is wavy with some very loose ringlets, but it just loses all definition when dry. On holiday (Turkey) I had lovely waves but at home it is just bleugh!

Hoping for some success with this method!

Redken Frizz Dismiss

Mawsymoo · 02/01/2017 21:26

Right I washed with the baby shampoo tonight then with conditioner and then left some in. I lost loads of hair in the process! I put the gel in and scrunched and I'm waiting for it to dry now. I have been messing with it though (scrunching it as it dries) and I think I should have left it alone as it is starting to look a bit frizzy as it dries. Will try the final step and then see how it lasts the night.
