Nuttymuffins, I agree with you.

Oh bugger I want to post more but I need to wipe 2 noses.

NuttyMuffins · 19/02/2007 19:01

LOL Mercy

Dh and I found it once, LOAO, and it fell into the catagory of family myth. We began to doubt that we had ever seen it, and years later found the Twatt again. that time we took a picture

Your mission, Edinburgh Mnetters it to find the Twatt and sit on it, thinking of me, and dh

Aufish · 19/02/2007 19:04

Icod, I wasn't trying to have a go at you specifically, just that whole attitude... Apologies if you thought otherwise or originally it came across that way.

However the whole attitude of it being important what the hell you wear.... fundamentally wrong...

Mother Theresa - Teatowel on head
Ghandi - Looked like he just got out of the bath
Albert Einstein - bad hair life... half mast trusers
Jesus - Long hair, shaggy beard - basically a hippy
Adolf Hitler - WELL GROOMED
Dracula - Evening dress

ok, that last one's a bit far fetched but I'm sure you get the point.... We have 4 kids and have had to spend £5000 in a legal battle with my ex who was an extremely bad father in relation to access/residency whilst he has legal aid, allowing him to prolong things repeatedly, I then come on here and see someone fundamental in the legal system of the country telling me that we have to spend more money on our kids.... WE CAN'T AFFORD TO - and yet you then go and judge us on it....

ok, it may have meant to be light hearted, but isn't that a defence used in many trials related to racism/ sexism in the work place? just because you meant it as a joke doesn't make it right that you said it.

In the summer I took DS to school accompanied by DD (2) wearing yellow and pink stripy shorts and pink t-shirt, pink wellies, blue poncho and green swimming goggles

d'ya really think I give a damn about trouser length?

rofl

pollyanna · 19/02/2007 19:13

I don't know what age children start judging other children, but my ds is 8 and wears what he wants (his favourite pair of jeans are a bit short for him , he also has a bad haircut as he is refusing to get it cut (he says he wants to look like a skater dude but doesn't quite manage it). None of his friends care.

At his party recently there was a face painter, and although most of the boys went for devil or spiderman faces, ds was a dog and his friend was a buttlerfly. I really don't think they judge each other at all! So maybe the judging starts later, or maybe it is because we are in Brighton too

jalopy · 19/02/2007 19:19

What's wrong with the 'capri' look for boys?

pointydog · 19/02/2007 19:30

oh you must be kidding! A princes street twatt bench?! There are too many twatts in edinburgh for just the one bench

pointydog · 19/02/2007 19:31

aufish, I fundamentally disagree with your last post on so many levels

pointydog · 19/02/2007 19:32

but byjings, you don;t half miss a lot on mn when you go and run a bath

nightowl · 19/02/2007 19:34

like i give a shit if ds's trousers are too short. at least they're clean. he has five pairs of varying sizes, i dont notice which ones he has on. when i notice i'll chuck them away. big deal. HUGE problem in life, short trews.

ghosty · 19/02/2007 19:50

For southeastastra

Uniform at our local High School scroll down to the bottom of the page.
This is a STATE school ... I think they look great ... smart and practical ...

pointydog · 19/02/2007 20:19

The guy with the shorts, bare legs and sandals carries it off rather well, I must admit, ghosty.

However, it's the shorts, long socks and stout black shoes that makes me larf.

southeastastra · 19/02/2007 21:10

oh lovely, though i was expecting shorter shorts

Aloha · 19/02/2007 21:10

Don't any of you recall kids being picked on at school for their clothes? Because I do. Even specialists in Aspergers suggest that it helps kids to avoid being bullied if they wear clothes and have stuff that makes them more acceptable to their peers. I tend to think my ds is a potential lamb to the slaughter, frankly, and I'm going to do all I can to make his life as easy as possible. If your kids are so effortlessly cool that they can wear beige polo necks/lederhosen/too short trousers and still be the coolest kid on the block, well, that's fantastic.

pinkchampagne · 19/02/2007 21:15

I'm with you totally there, Aloha.

Mercy · 19/02/2007 21:26

ghosty, my dh is from NZ and hated having to wear long shorts and roman sandals in his teens

Funnily enough that's pretty similar to what he wears now he is middle-age(ish)!

Anyway, I was going to say something in support of NuttyMuffins' post before I was dragged away by streaming noses.

If you don't have a lot of money, then outside appearances are important. It says you are doing ok and you care. I always make sure my dd who is at school has clean, ironed clothes no matter how cheap they are. And I also make sure that she herself looks clean - face, nails and hair brushed.

I'm not a materialist, far from it. I'm a total scruffbag but I am an adult, so therfore it's my choice.

Beetrootccio · 19/02/2007 21:26

I am with you Aloha

I love the fact that my kids look good, and have great sense of what looks good -

Mercy · 19/02/2007 21:31

Aloha, you said what I was trying to say but got distracted by those runny noses half way through!

noddyholder · 19/02/2007 21:44

Looks like Brighton is rocking on the cool non judgemental place to live-ometer Maybe you don't all need new clothes you need to move here!
