Thread 1

Thread 2

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1and 2 are worth reading we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Xmas Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Xmas Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, have read through the previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer up to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Thanks very much bo I'm a big fan of liquorice generally, to eat, drink and put on. So instinctively I'm drawn towards that one.

My skin is looking very bad atm although the dry flaky bits have gone. Going to assume it's the over consumption of sugar and wheat over the Christmas period and cross fingers that a couple of weeks of super healthy eating will sort it. I bought a lot of fruit, veg, fish and nuts today.

On my jaw next to my chin I have under the skin small hard bumps. Not tiny like mila but like spots that are deep. There's clusters of them on both sides. No redness and not visible really but texture wise it's not great. Will the Corsx bha be good for those areas? Have only tried it on my nose so far.

Goldie, I don’t really like to talk about right or wrong in skincare as it’s so individual but a lot of things you are doing is in the wrong order and you seem to push your skin terribly hard in terms of exfoliation but offer it no care to help it recoup so your asking a lot of your skin and not offering it much, especially since you describe yourself as having dry skin. It’s very unfortunate as all the effort and money you put into these active ingredients are wasted as they have to be expended on restoring the impact of this imposed imbalance rather than getting to the job you’ve bought them for at their full strength.

You don’t need an overhaul, you simply need to balance out your routine and get some proper cleansing and moisturising in. You’re on the younger side to be having aging concerns around mouth and lip area (though genetics will influence this) but regardless getting some hydration in serum form in will help address this. It’s worth considering a Retinol further down the line though as this about the age to start.

The basics: keep your face away from the shower water, it's too hot. All cleansing happens at the sink, flannel, muslin, etc, of choice. Tepid water, clean flannel every day. Wash hands before starting routine.

AM :

Use the Jan Marini Bioglycolic (I assume) cleanser here
TO Buffet or Hylamide SubQ and if preferred in addition the TO Caffeine Solution for eyes.
Moisturiser, if you need a rec the dry skinned on here are enjoying the Benton Steam Cream from Korea but if you happen to have anything in your own stash use that, or even the Pai rosehip oil (check the date on it though if you only use it incidentally)
Heliocare SPF 50

PM :

Cleanse with an oil based cleanser like Clinique TTDO, Bodyshop CB, DHC Cleansing Oil or similar, EL DW is a full on base and really needs a proper cleanser to get off. Then follow up with the Jan Marini Cleanser (not one I’d be pushing people to get so when finished consider the LRP Toleriane Dermo unless you really enjoy this particular cleanser). Re-utilise the Eucerin Micellar for eye makeup remover.
Vitamin C always comes first in order of actives post cleansing (Vit C - BHA - AHA) So Skinceuticals CEF first, leave to sink in.
nip and fab glycolic pad,
TO Buffet or Hylamide SubQ
Then pai rosehip oil and/or moisturiser.

Goldie when my son's eczema just started I took him to a homeopath and that had initially very good effects on the rashes over a couple of years. Then I took him to someone who does electromagnetic-diagnosis (he was having trouble following an accident and we were trying to eliminate possible causes) and we discovered he is lactose intolerant. Through this practitioner I started using Silica gel on what by then remained of his rashes (was mainly just inner elbows) and that too gave very fast results. After the initial period of using the gel as per the instructions I mixed it with some oils (coconut and argan, mainly) and smeared that on him, and that got rid of the last of the rashes. I know some adults swallow silica pills.
That was already 3 or so years ago. I'm very strict with the lactose free diet as he also develops a lot of mucus if he has lactose (which equals horrid coughs and lung infection).
I've always used the Weleda baby soap/ shampoo on him (or some other organic Shea shampoo thing I used to get from the US) and when he had the rashes I used to always moisturize his whole body the second he came out of the shower. Same for hair gel etc - he doesn't use anything with any "harsh" ingredients.

Don't know if you read what I've been writing about cryotherapy but coincidentally I met a woman there today who is also going every day now. She told me of a friend of hers that has really bad eczema and has gotten completely rid of it with the cryotherapy (though I think she has to keep going at the moment to keep it at bay).

Thanks for the recommendations bo! Will take a look at them!

hollinhurst84 · 04/01/2017 20:53

Enid - don't ask! The upstairs neighbours refused to let the management company in so they've forced entry, they're being a pain in the proverbial

Few spots again - I'm imagining chocolate and stress?!?! So am going to slather that mud mask on I posted up thread

botemp · 04/01/2017 20:55

Also, Goldie, I know you mentioned the Elizabeth Arden 8hr cream. It's a mineral oil based one and if you have absolutely no issues with it then continue to use it but MO does inhibit cell turnover (requiring more exfoliation and causing more disbalance) that's disregarding the general issues and concerns that surround MO as those are very individual.

Enid, I did like the Melano CC, Enid, just have no clue what the concentration is which annoyed the nerd in me. It's definitely good on the brightening front, also has Vit E in there to boost the effect of the Vit C (but no Ferulic) and it really does do well as a spot control in a good packaging that prevents oxidation (although it's sometimes difficult to get a decent amount out). Here's a review of it, I think it's a good intro for Vit C without using it all over the face (though you can) but I thought of it since I know you treat your face very localised so thought it would fit that approach. And licorice root in skincare is fab to boot.

For subcutaneous pimples, I find AHA better initially, then to coax them out with BHA.

We're not doing very well with our healthy eating plans! Have yet to unearth my recipes, but they don't tend to be very diet related, mostly balanced, never really got on with the high protein hype, just read a few articles about it too that unless you're some sort of super athlete (and even they're more carb loaders than anything else) high protein isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Though, as I'm veggie (with the occasional fish) I'm one who does have to monitor that enough gets in.

Also sorry to hear you've had a crappy day Wine

wiltingfast · 04/01/2017 21:16

Re the inositol and alpha lipoic acid Bo , I don't think they are used for weight loss. The other use I've read about is anxiety, OCD, panic attacks etc, and at much higher doses (12-18g). I suspect what happens is more a rebalancing of your metabolism. I experienced some initial weight loss but it quickly stabilised. However I notice my appetite is bigger than it was, but no weight gain. If I try to go back to my old eating habits, I start losing weight within a day or two.

I didn't experience any sleeplessnes unless I popped them late. Now I am careful to take nothing after 8pm at latest. You could try taking it earlier? I read of people taking it at lunchtime for example. Or mid afternoon.

Separately am also in the throes of horrible RED pimples on my neck popping up out of nowhere. Grr. Am not sure if it's Xmas hangover or the sudden skin care attention it's been getting after being ignored for years Grin

JDSTER · 04/01/2017 21:16

I'm confused. Do I use Vit C OR niacin first then buffet/HA or buffet first (which is what VH suggested) and can I have rationale so I know what I'm doing Smile? Thanks

AuroraPolaris · 04/01/2017 21:19

Why, what happened with the healthy eating???

Pupsiecola · 04/01/2017 21:37

Littlepink I need to look into Raynaud's. I've suspected I have it for a while. I was in excruciating pain whilst skiing one day over Xmas. Way more than cold hands. Such bad pain I was shaking and in tears. Had to buy liners and new gloves and heat packs after that.

botemp · 04/01/2017 21:39

I thought there were plans to share and support with recipes and things starting in January but maybe I misunderstood. I'm not dieting btw, I don't eat much to begin with at the mo, so it would be very unhealthy to eat less.

Yeah, it's weird, wilting, I've never been one to lose weight quickly even with very stringent diets/exercise plans, increasing them, etc. so it's a bit unnerving to see it shed so quickly but I'll keep an eye out for if it stabilises again and adjust if necessary otherwise. I don't ever eat anything after seven so it shouldn't be too late but I'll try it at breakfast and lunch and see if that helps with the sleeping pattern, was up at 3 today, and left staring at the ceiling for far too long hoping to fall asleep again.

JDSTER, I'm confused now too... Never use TO Vit C and TO Nia together in the same routine, use one or the other in the AM/PM. Buffet + HA probably too much of the same as you say so use one or the other in AM/PM too.

Hi all! Popping over from the beauty product hoard thread. I'm hoping that by using up items I have I can properly work out which items work for me. I have a fairly good understanding of ingredients and what I should be using but I definitely need to streamline my routine! Grin

botemp · 04/01/2017 22:07

Welcome hoarder FunnyBunny01! What do you have in your stashes, or is the list too long? I assume (as I've never ventured on the product hoard thread) that you're aware of cosmetics expiration once opened and if still sealed.

Sorry bo didn't understand that we would share recipes and purposely support each other... but I'm always willing to for as you have probably understood I'm really ×´into" healthy eating. I simply call it "normal". Xmas SmileOtherwise the 20 mattresses don't work properly, you know Xmas Wink
What kind of stuff are you interested in? I'm also vegetarian! Kids and DH eat fish but I have fish intolerance.
I don't really diet either, just watch the amounts I eat, though I always eat in the evening as I don'teat a big dinner and have to have something (fruit, nuts, yogurt etc) around 22h otherwise I can't sleep. Xmas Hmm
Mind you I think I have a very slight stomach virus at the mo. Bit of indigestion and nausea, though I feel slightly better after being in -110Xmas Grin
I was also up at 03:00 because of said virus...
