Thread 1

Thread 2

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1and 2 are worth reading we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Xmas Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Xmas Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, have read through the previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer up to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Hi Bo. Last question of the day I promise. I know never to use vit c and niacin together (I did put OR in capitals) just not sure whether buffet first then vit c or buffet then niacin or other way round i.e. Vit c first then buffet (I've always used HA after any other serum) it just seems the advice I got from VH was suggesting buffet first but I don't understand why? Hope that makes sense

AuroraPolaris · 04/01/2017 22:22

Sorry to hear about your woes, pupsie Xmas Sad

Pupsiecola · 04/01/2017 22:26

Hi Bunny. Welcome to this thread.

I'm up for support re nutrition and exercise etc. I had surgery on my spine 18 months ago and hit rock bottom re feeling twice my age having been living in pain since fracturing my sacrum a year before that (and a prolapsed disc from 20 odd years ago). Anyway, I had an aha moment whilst at said rock bottom and decided then and there to get properly fit. Dropped a couple stones and now train 5 times a week (weights, HIIT, a weekly run, Pilates (medicinal forevermore)). Do most of it at home. Make up my own routines and follow others such as The Body Coach. Good nutrition for me is trying to eat with moderation (after decades of being an all or nothing eater). Nothing is off limits. I don't have cheat meals or days. I have some strategies for managing this and it's taken me two years to practise the art. I've honestly never felt better Smile.

Pupsiecola · 04/01/2017 22:27

Sorry to hear about your bad day Bo Flowers.

hollinhurst84 · 04/01/2017 22:29

Pupsie - I'm currently not exercising and it does make you feel so crap when you can't
Being treated for a disc problem but also awaiting surgery on a wound in my armpit
Usually I ride my horse, do aerial hoop, spin and lift heavy stuff Grin

AuroraPolaris · 04/01/2017 22:33

Wow, how did you fracture your sacrum? Poor you!!! Back pain is terrible - I've been in three accidents, so have three whiplashes, have PTSD (relatively mild), have a longer femur, thus also slight scoliosis, sigh...

AuroraPolaris · 04/01/2017 22:35

hollin I used to love horseback riding! Did it years ago... now I'm a bit afraid because of said PTSD

FizzyBubbly · 04/01/2017 22:40

Ouch Hollin that sounds painful, hope you get sorted soon, I know how frustrating it is enforcing an exercise ban from one heavy lifter to another Wink

Another veggie here looking for some new recipe inspiration! Stuck in a rut and the cold weather puts me into hibernation mode so it's carbs, carbs and more carbs...

AuroraPolaris · 04/01/2017 22:45

This is the next thing I want to try - maybe in the weekend. Not low of fat or so, but I think it's probably filling enough to save as a meal

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/jan/03/pasta-with-potatoes-and-smoked-provola-cheese-recipe-rachel-roddy-a-kitchen-in-rome

I've made a few of her things the past few months and all were brilliant!

AuroraPolaris · 04/01/2017 22:45

Serve....

Pupsiecola · 04/01/2017 22:48

I did it in an exercise class. I stepped off a Reebok step and trod on a kettlebell handle. Went right over on my ankle (don't know how I didn't break it), then up in the air and landed on my arse. Then had a full on panic attack (the pain!!). Somehow drove home. Saw GP a few days later; he fobbed me off saying it was a bruised coccyx but even if broken nothing to do. I went back the next day and insisted on an x-ray as it didn't feel right and I have private health cover. Went for x-ray. Was told not to leave hospital as was a fracture of sacrum and they needed to give me an MRI to make sure it was stable! Then lived with pain for a year before having some bone shaved (trapping a nerve). Honestly you don't realise how miserable you are, living with constant pain.

Flowers for all those also suffering with injuries and healthy.

Pupsiecola · 04/01/2017 22:50

This is delicious. I always batch cooking and freeze it. Lovely served with naan or rice. Sorry am on phone hence pic not link.

Who do people follow re health and fitness? Jill Coleman (@jillfit) got me into the moderation mindset two years ago. Also Metabic Effect are excellent - all about balancing hormones and metabolism. Read a good book about CBT around eating; The Beck Diet Solution (bit dated in places but brilliant).

I also try to walk as much as possible. Leisure walking is fantastic for stress on a cellular level. I listen to Audio Books as I go.

AuroraPolaris · 04/01/2017 22:55

Wow, you did a real salto!!Yeah constant or almost constant pain is exhausting! I try to keep off pain killers though...
I do Pilates (though sadly my brilliant teacher has been away for a while) and yoga. Can also do it alone at home, which I really enjoy. Also do meditation in the mornings. At the moment my back is in really good shape - only the shoulder and arm were bugging me, thus the cryotherapy.
(And of course I have the stack of mattresses Xmas Grin)

hollinhurst84 · 04/01/2017 22:57

I usually walk and play Pokemon go Grin then end up realising I've walked 10k Blush
My diet is not brilliant, I am so much less motivated when not exercising. And I need to be back upside down on a hoop
Rode my horse today, bitterly cold!
Was deadlifting 120kg + before this

Pupsiecola · 04/01/2017 23:01

Wow hollin! You'll get back to it. I hit a squat PB last week of 70kg. Straight legged Deadlifts is my fave exercise. I struggle with squats due to tight hip flexors.

botemp · 04/01/2017 23:02

Sorry, didn't mean to make my day sound that bad. Was just one of those 'everything that's planned and needed getting sorted got diverted/canceled combined with shit weather and random things colluding to annoy me' type of days.

Oh, I'm sort of sorted on the healthy eating front (and the exercise) but I don't know if I'd rec my daily routine to others as it's quite specific to my issues. Anyhow, I thought there were a couple on here (Enid and maybe Dulci?) who had plans to do the better eating thing come January.

Sorry JDSTER, I'm following now. Nia or Vit C first then HA if necessary (both contain quite a bit of HA already). I don't understand why VH suggested otherwise either as it makes the actives less potent in the case of Nia, the C can be used after HA if preferred but in my experience it makes it far stingier if still damp and HA is not something I like to leave sitting on my face till it's dry.

Interesting product from Dr. Sam, especially for the bacne sufferers.

Hey, our microinfluencing is working delusional, but let me live it for a bit LRP is launching 4 new products in the Toleriane range though it seems to be in the US only now. The most interesting product is a sort of Cerave PM lotion type product, high in Niacinamide and full of ceramides so great for barrier restoring and combatting increased sensitivity (dimethicone though but oil free). For whatever reason, they are now marketing their precious thermal water as 'prebiotic' Confused. Comes in an SPF 30 version and a non-SPF version. Also a foaming cleanser, which we'll have to reserve judgment on -but promising pH and sulfate and soap free-, and a hydrating gentle cream cleanser which looks good for both dry and compromised skins, again containing ceramides, niacinamide, and panthenol (B5). Prices look promising too, the 200ml dermo cleanser is $23.99 in the US, the hydrating cleanser in 400ml is $14.99.

Not low fat either (but olive oil so less bad), but I was planning on cooking Persian rice with grilled squid, orange zest and crisp onions from the Guardian one of these days, adding in some chopped pistachio nuts and pomegranate seeds but might just have to wait til the weekend as it looks a bit more involved than I think. Have cooked loads from her before and am usually very pleased though often swap out impossible to find ingredients. Also have a cauliflower that needs using up but can't remember the recipe I was looking at, was roasted, then served in a bowl possibly with hazelnuts and quinoa. Think it was in the Guardian too.

hollinhurst84 · 04/01/2017 23:08

Oh I meant to update on the eye makeup remover. It's got mineral oil in but it's surprisingly similar to the olay one, lotion type. Mega cheap and I like it, no stinging or irritation

AuroraPolaris · 04/01/2017 23:13

Was the cauliflower roasted whole? Then I think I made that! Was brilliant. I even made naan for the first time ever to go with.
I can look for the recipe tomorrow. Must try to go to sleep now...

I'd read about the LRP SPF water a while ago and asked around but got no answers... hope all that stuff comes to our shores soon as it looks very interesting.

JDSTER · 04/01/2017 23:21

Aurora do you have a recipe for the naan? My son made them at school during 'Indian topic' when he was 6 or 7 and it was the best naan I'd ever had! Of course he never came home with the recipe and it was external people who came in to cook with them so couldn't just ask the teacher for the recipe

FunnyBunny01 · 04/01/2017 23:52

Thanks for the welcome Smile

Botemp thanks for the reminder about expiry dates, everything that I have was bought in the last year and I'm pretty good at only opening items that are in use. As for my stash list... it's not too bad but I know I can definitely be without most of it! It's the result of a few too many online shopping sprees and social media influence I'm afraid. Stash Anything highlighted is in use, I should probably fill out your form to give an idea of my skin type, probably tomorrow Grin

EnidButton · 05/01/2017 00:29

My healthy eating consists of a lot of protein, greens, veg, full fat stuff, no refined sugar or white carbs, that kind of thing. I got into making green smoothies in my nutri-bullet last year which were good. Can share a couple of make shift 'recipes' for those if anyone wants.

I'm too poorly atm to cook much so it's back to basics food wise. Fish, veg and rice, or chicken and roast veg. That kind of thing. I basically just try to add as many nutrients as I can. I have porridge everyday, (made with oat milk), and add a large handful of blueberries, almond powder, flaxseeds and chia seeds. Or whatever we have in. Gets the day off to a good start. Don't di it for weight loss reasons. Definitely don't want to lose weight. Feel much better without sugar mood wise and physically it all helps my symptoms. Can't eat wheat without ballooning up and being in pain so I avoid that too.

I do have a couple of no sugar cookbooks that I'll have a look through for easy recipes. At the moment though I'm just adjusting eating habits back to healthy ones.

So didn't feel qualified to post recipes yet as I haven't tried them. The fridge is heaving with fresh veggies, fish, chicken and fruit after today's shopping trip so hopefully I'll soon be back to normal eating. Smile

oh no Hollin Sad sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed they get it together soon.

Thanks bo The bha apparently won't be here until the 1st of Feb Confused so can't use it yet anyway.

EnidButton · 05/01/2017 00:36

For a really simple smoothie that I feel gives skin a bit of a boost I throw this lot in together and blend. Quantities are very rough, adjustcto taste basically. It's a fruit based one but it's the whole fruit, fibre along with the sugar, so my body is fine with it.

Large handful of baby spinach,
Handful of frozen mango,
Half a frozen banana,
Large tbsp coconut milk, (maybe more),
Generous squeeze of lime,
Grated fresh ginger,
Top up with coconut water.
Blend.

If anyone is buying coconut water, check the ingredients as they sometimes sneak sugar in there. It's best really cold. The nicest I've tried is the Innocent one.

EnidButton · 05/01/2017 00:38

Oh and a few mint leaves.

Just realised I forgot to buy ginger so I'm glad I made that list.

botemp · 05/01/2017 10:12

FunnyBunny01, no judgment, honestly, I've just looked at your list and that's a whole lot which I don't think you'd ever be able to physically finish all that by the time it expires. May I suggest you try to sell/gift some of it. I know @Nabootique will happily take the discontinued Artemis from you. I'm heavily tempted to take the DE from you (but you may need some of it yourself possibly). There are a few other products on there that I've recced a few people looking into that you should be able to offload too.

I'm almost tempted to do a no-spend on here for a while and just suggest you all use up the excess product we each have on here! It's a veritable treasure trove.

Yes, do fill in the form, will also help wrt what you need and don't need to hold on to (if you're ok with minimising the stash).
