Thread 1

Thread 2

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1and 2 are worth reading we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Xmas Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Xmas Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, have read through the previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer up to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

CH got free trips to BR, we should definitely get some, we're better evangelists of the unicorn tears than she is any day of the week

Clutter Beauty Boxes, Storm? Wink

Your routine is now:

AM: LRP DC - Serozinc - Zelens something - Eye gel - LRP TF - NO SPF as of yet

PM: Bodyshop CB - LRP DC - and as above

?? Right?

Can't recall what you bought from TO though, was it Caffeine and something else? Niacinamide, Vit C and possibly Retinoid?

I think you'd be safe to introduce the Caffeine eye product and BHA at the same time as they both have their own specific areas that don't overlap. I'd start with the BHA, 2-3x a week. Most see an improvement with BHA quite quickly so if not we'll have to see whether this specific one is the best one for you.

Oh goldie poor you so many allergies! Xmas Sad

My son's eczema is connected to lactose intolerance (from DH's side. I could drink milk all day (hate milk) and nothing would happen to me). He had eczema all over his body besides his face, luckily. I only used the steroids twice on him as I realized that the minute you stop the rashes came back Xmas Angry
It's getting late here and we swore we would go to sleep on time tonight so I'll post about it tomorrow.

Totally agree bo. Unicorn tears and phoenix feathers.

wiltingfast · 03/01/2017 22:44

Bo, yes, the alpha lipoic was me Smile what dosage did your consultant recommend? When did you start? For me I started to notice a difference straight away.

Speaking of make up I bought masacara from boots and am loving it. Soft snd v natural. Great for every day. Plus it has royal jelly in it! And argan oil!

SheStoodInTheStorm · 03/01/2017 22:55

To be honest they are all four of them just sat on top of my wardrobe so not so much clutter at the moment Wink

Yes Bo:

AM: LRP DC - Serozinc - Zelens something - Eye gel - LRP TF - NO SPF as of yet

PM: Bodyshop CB - LRP DC - and as above

Haven't used the Zelens in a while. Was going for basic!

Yes I bought
Niacinamide 10% + Zinc PCA, Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG by The Ordinary (30-ml)

Also thought I'd try
High Adherence Silicone Primer by The Ordinary but now not sure!

botemp · 03/01/2017 23:07

I'm on a 150mg ALA and the Isotonil I built up from the recommended dosage of 1/2tsp to 2tsp (both 2x a day). I wanted to get the more fancy ALA you mentioned but I got so confused by the dosages and iherb wasn't very helpful that I just went with the recommended dose from my specialist, which was mostly based on her info that the higher dosage was for the morbidly obese and not legal here (so even if it is the ideal dose I think legally she could never encourage me to take the higher dose in an email). Was also worried that it might be confiscated at customs with the 'illegal' dosage.

Ehm yes, so I've noticed things. Which may be a bit TMI, definitely a lot more digestive system unloading iywim. Also, not so much more energy but I can get by on far less sleep which has its benefits but I'm not all that happy with the very early rising. May just up the exercise a bit and see if I can tire myself out a bit more to get some more sleep in because I miss it despite not being tired. Initially, it did increase my appetite which was a bit odd but it went back to normal again but that can also be time of the month related.

I am wondering since I'm doing it to tackle the IR and help the PCOS but do people do this for weight loss? I've only been on it for about a week and a bit and I was already in a weird slow loss mode since May (no real intention, was sick and afterwards just continued my normal balanced diet and exercise routine but somehow this seemed to trigger it, thought it would rebalance itself as it always does but I seem to be stuck in loss mode) this combo seems to be acting as a bit of a catalyst to that.

*Storm, officially I shouldn't give you the go ahead for BHA without an SPF in place but considering it's not as photosensitising I think you should be okay with it.

So I'd say BHA and Caffeine from tomorrow/today. BHA 2-3x a week, bad reaction to it will be noted pretty quickly though some purging can occur. Then in a week or two introduce Nia at night, if your skin is reacting well to TO stuff you can add in HA too perhaps a little sooner than the standard two weeks apart.

I got a giant sample of this in a beauty box. Wasn't sure whether to use it or not, just looked it up to see the ingredients Shock at the price!

I can't keep up tonight! bo yes think it's inflammation marks. Vitamin C sounds like it could be a good ingredient for me. Any recs? Is it best in a serum? I should maybe have another look at the Drunk Elephant one. I looked at Surrat blusher whilst doing the Sephora order too. One of the reviews said it was tiny so it put me off. Knew I was drawn to it for a reason, we discussed them on here didn't we. Should thrown it in the basket. I'll see what this UD one is like but I'll probably get the S one in next order. Blusher and lip products are my thing. Grin

Feel like there was something else I was going to say or reply to but my memory has gone to sleep. Like trying to hold water in a sock.

What do I search for for the beauty blogger threads?

SheStoodInTheStorm · 04/01/2017 07:23

Bo I will go back through the threads to find the SPF recommendations and buy one!

Enid the threads were linked earlier in this thread, I'm on the app but will try again.

I only had the one to start with botemp, but as you turned her down (well, she's still here anyway), she is still available! Grin

Will come back and do my 2016 stuff soon. I've missed this thread! I barely posted on the last one. Real life has been getting in the way on my MNing (how dare it).

Pupsiecola · 04/01/2017 09:27

Just chuckling to myself as I applied my SPF to walk the 20 minutes to my exercise class (and back) this morning, on a grey, cloudy day.

I am loving TO Buffet. Applied it last night under my Neostrata Bio Hydrating cream. The two worked really well together. I should use the Neostrata more as it works really well for me (recommended by my dermatologist).

JDSTER · 04/01/2017 10:18

she stood in the storm. I can't remember your skin type but I've just bought a new spf as recommended on here, biore watery esence, from a Japanese seller on ebay which is a good buy if you're skin is in the oily side. PM me if you're interested in TO high adherence silicone primer.

I've finished up my NIOD copper. I've got TO niacinamide, vit c and NIOD HA. VH recommend regime for me (combo/oily with visible pores, early 40's) is buffet then niacinamide followed by HA in the morning and buffet, HA then vit C in evening. My understandung is I don't need buffet and HA together as I'm not dry so what would the ideal order be? Upthread Bo suggests nia at night and is vit c better in am? I want to get this right!

Enid I like TO vit c although I know a lot of people on here don't like the texture.

I need to get round to posting my favourites of 2016 and I've got a few bits people can have too.

mintmagnummm · 04/01/2017 10:23

What's the difference between buffet and the hylamide subq?

EnidButton · 04/01/2017 13:35

Shestood Thank you!

JD I'd forgotten about that one. Thank you.

JD who was the eBay seller? Prefer to buy off a recommendation!
I've bought the primer (before I read your review of it) but thank you.

Enid they make for enlightening reading but I did get lost in them for a while!

This thread moves fast! Was away for a week without wifi and there are pages to catch up on!

New routine as follows. Have ,after some research, found that the redness on and round my nose is definitely linked to the primary reynauds I have. Am starting to take garlic, calcium and magnesium supplements as well as one with chestnut( I Thin k) in it. Hoping this will help with the blue fingers and my skin.

AM cleanse with LRP cleanser, niacinamide plus zinc by the Ordinary , Pai moisturiser, Body Shop SPF

PM cleanse with the Pai cleanser, alpha h liquid gold alternate nights, niacinamide plus zinc, Body Shop Vitamin E moisturiser.

Have just received The Ordinary Azeleic acid which I ordered in November so will be trying that out .

purple15 · 04/01/2017 19:18

Hello all, This is my first post for a long time.

I have spent all day reading all the threads and am going to purchase some LRP Toleriane products tomorrow.

I know an SPF is really important and at the moment I have the LRP Antheos factor 50 tinted. I currently use Bare Minerals and find this suncreen to dark for my colouring. Having gone through millions of posts and know that you recommend the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence. I was wondering if this is suitable to wear under makeup and does it cast a white tinge?

yongnian · 04/01/2017 19:34

Here's what I came back from France with. All relatively restrained and preplanned I feel, nothing too bonkers...

Small size cristalline thermal water spray (have a huge one at home so this for travel)
Avene cleanance gel wash (for bacne only) - again small size...
Weleda skin food (never seen this at home and had good reviews on here) very liking already for tetchy patches
Bioderma SPF 50 spray - like this much better than the LRP Anthelios already. Works in fast, no lasting white cast.
Topicreme 10% Urea body cream for severely dry skin...skin loving this
Sephora ginseng toner...think this was not a great buy (tho travel size so only €3.50). Didn't research properly and just grabbed on impulse, though I would like a toner but think this will not be it.
Excellent quality locally produced lavender essential oil - when in Provence...already had multiple outings as a pillow-calmer for kids, on my poor sinuses and on a burn on finger.
Le petit Marseillaise fleur d'orange shower wash - on repeat buy
KIKO black pen eyeliner - from the market!!
KIKO concealer pen - as above
Sephora ombré shadow palette -3 shades. Love this! Such a good idea, great value for money and really easy for travel etc
Biguine eyeliner brush in a sparkly brown - bought for NYE make up...reminds me of a mac one I had years ago, just dot a couple of sparkles, nice effect
Tony moly peach lip balm for DD
Dr Jart firming mask - liked this
Some kind of relaxing lavender mask, not used yet
Use creme blusher in a terracotta shade..,this took me almost the whole 2 weeks to find! So few makes doing creme blush...not cheap, but nice
Fleur d'orange EDT by couvent minimes - love love love
Think that was it..
Another gratuitous shelf photo

Hi purple biotech watery essence is very light and def suitable for under makeup. I'm pretty sure it won't leave a white cast, based on what I've read. I've just ordered some.
LRP are a third off on 'look fantastic' website today. Sometimes 3 for 2 in boots but not at the moment!

storm let us know how you get on with primer. You might think it's wonderful Grin. I can check the seller but only just ordered from them so can't particularly recommend. I just went for a seller from Japan that had a decent review rating.

botemp · 04/01/2017 19:59

Enid, yes despite it's textural challenges TO Vit C 23% is worth looking into but if you prefer a more concentrated approach I've used in the past Melano CC from Japan which is specially formulated to tackle the spots and also has licorice root extract in it to help heal and tackle the redness. It does have fragrance in it but I tolerated it fine (also used it all over the face even though it's really meant for post spot inflammation). INCI here, it's about $13 shipped on eBay. Think Paula's Choice just released a similar product with 25% Vit C in it but don't know if it's available in the EU. The Drunk Elephant I just want to try because it has very good reviews, a clean INCI and comes in a pump but the price is extortionate. The Surratt from Sephora also comes in really pricey compared to the UK.

Storm, provided fragrance and alcohol aren't an issue the Biore should suit you, alternatives are LRP Anthelios Fluid, The Body Shop Watery SPF, Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily Defence (fragrance-free), the EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 (fragrance-free). If in need of a mineral sunscreen then it's another list.

JDSTER, Deciem recommend using Vit C to overcome its textural issues. As long as you can make it work in the AM there's no issue using it then (just don't use at the same time as TO Nia)

mint/jo, I tackled that I think on the previous thread but I believe it came down to SubQ having the fake retinol peptides and the copper peptides which are all a bit next gen without the track record whilst Buffet relies on Matrixyl (which has more research behind it) and probiotics (an iffy but promising field of ingredients nonetheless).

Welcome purple15! As far as I'm aware the Biore makes for a good makeup base and leaves no white cast. You can see it in action on this around the 3:40 mark.
