Thread 1

Thread 2

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1and 2 are worth reading we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Xmas Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Xmas Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, have read through the previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer up to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

OMG pupsie that sounds exhausting!!!!!!! And with two boys, right? Xmas ShockXmas ShockXmas ShockXmas Shock
You deserve a lot of nice skin care now!

AuroraPolaris · 30/12/2016 22:53

Here are the stevia conversion values-

1 drop liquid stevia = tbs sugar
1 tsp powder stevia = 1/2 tsp liquid stevia
1/4 tsp powder stevia = 6-9 drops liquid stevia

1 cup sugar= 128 grams =1 tsp liquid stevia

Or something like that, depending on the brand.

botemp · 30/12/2016 22:58

You deserve a bath of Darphin serum to soak in after that, Pupsie, get some rest and maybe wake up in the next year?

Fizzy, I did end up contacting them today as their INCI were impossible to find, also asked about the eye fluid and the active %. They still need to get back to me with some additional info but I'll post the stuff I have tomorrow I'm too lazy to get to the computer again and I've become rather intrigued by some of their other products (notably the revitalizing serum with Vit C, Glycolic and Lactic). The guy who started it used to work for LRP and Vichy before branching out on his own wanting a no frills effective and proven only skincare line with no fragrance, parabens or colourants. It is a bit French in their approach (in the laissez-faire attitude) which I'll explain further tomorrow. Funnily enough, it was to be a men's line but his shop became overrun with Parisian women demanding some for themselves so it's a bit unisex now.

I have only tried the powder once myself, after having recommended it to a friend and creating a monster in the process who loves it and swears by it but it does require a bit of dedication and care, you can't keep it in a humid space like a bathroom as it can clog up that way, it's fiddly since it's a powder, etc. but it does do the job. The Ordinary is advised not to use under the eye and in all honesty, it's a bit too high of a % for that area, and it's not a formula you can dilute easily.

botemp · 30/12/2016 23:00

Thanks, Aurora. It's powdered, can't remember the brand now but that's certainly helpful. I may try to make some cardamom buns with it tomorrow.

Fizzy I use the SC retinol 1% all around my eyes, but my eye area is not sensitive and I've built up my retinol tolerance over a few years.

Bo do TO discourage from using retinol around the eyes only because of the high % and thus possible irritation?

AuroraPolaris · 30/12/2016 23:05

Yummy! Do post the recipe if it comes out nice! As I wrote previously- adding a couple of tbs of date syrup helps eliminate the stevia "after taste". I also find the after taste is much subtler the day after.

AuroraPolaris · 30/12/2016 23:08

Forgot to ask in which colour you got the concealer? It's also discounted at dB I think.

botemp · 30/12/2016 23:08

Pretty much, but mostly to idiot proof these things too. I think TO is a brand that especially deals with a lot of people using the products with limited to no knowledge, it's the one place where their low pricing really works against them as it does encourage mass hauling and slapping on with abandon. Which isn't too damaging with your average ineffective stuff from Boots, not so much with all the concentrations from TO where some don't play well together to boot.

LOLing at "idiot proof" Xmas Grin

AuroraPolaris · 30/12/2016 23:12

Oh oh it's indeed still 25% and includes a brush......

botemp · 30/12/2016 23:17

20% at dB, it was only a few euros apart. I got colour number 2, number 1 looked good too but fell more into highlighter territory whilst 2 looks really natural on me. It's really weird when you first put it on, like an eraser or something as it completely knocks out any colouring and just looks like the rest of your skin and you look super well rested. My current Armani concealer had become a bit too light to function as a proper concealer and was coming off grey as a result but I now use that for the highlighting bit if I'm wearing a bit more and they work really well together.

The brush is good too, mostly for getting into the corners and it feels rich enough to do the moisturising job of an eye cream (so saved me from buying that too).

Hi all, aha another thread to obsess over. I'm on holiday with not much to read and having discovered Caroline Hirons after formulating a plan to overhaul my skin routine I've become a bit addicted to researching what plan to buy come payday (today, hurrah!). I've just ordered Good Genes and I need to get some serum, retinol a good eye cream, new cleanser (my current Dermologica gel is about to run out) and maybe some other bits like night and day moisturiser. I'm stuck on a phone with a sleeping baby on my knee so I was wondering if anyone would be able to advise me on some questions I posed on a separate thread. I would be most grateful:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2814945-Caroline-Hirons-fans-this-way-please

botemp · 30/12/2016 23:34

You won't find many CH fans here, freelance, or Good Genes fans either I'm afraid (we're mostly a sensitive lot but we come out decidedly cheaper Grin). Sorry, not meant to be hostile, happy to advise on here, have a bit of a read through and use the form in the OP.

Would point out that if you're breastfeeding you shouldn't be using anything with Retinol in it.

freelancegirl · 31/12/2016 00:25

Ah interesting. Why are you not fans? I'm new to this stuff and have only checked out her blog recently. It would be great to know more from people who've been researching things longer than I have.

EnidButton · 31/12/2016 00:37

Oh hello! That bb purple cream looks very good. The retinol in the ingredients list is scaring me slightly though. Anyone still up to enable reassure me? Never tried anything with retinol in it as afraid of breakouts but it looks so interesting that I'm very tempted.

EnidButton · 31/12/2016 00:41

free I found her sheet sheets to be a decent kick off point if you're starting from scratch. I've personally just become a bit wary of her reviews lately. They often seem very black and white and I can't see how someone can really review/test something when they use completely different products every night. She's ok, I'm just a bit more sceptical these days.

EnidButton · 31/12/2016 00:42

cheat sheets

EnidButton · 31/12/2016 00:43

bo what concealer is this? Must've missed it. I love a good concealer.

EnidButton · 31/12/2016 00:48

Oh Sisley!

EnidButton · 31/12/2016 00:50

Holy moly that's expensive for a concealer Shock Is it really really good? I have hereditary purple/blue under inner corners of ny eyes, wouldn't magically make them vanish completely? More than LM?

freelancegirl · 31/12/2016 00:56

Thanks Enid! Yes I am really starting from scratch and it's very confusing. I've been lucky to get away with 'remove make-up and moisturise' so far but I feel it's time to bring out some bigger guns now. I have read a lot of the thread and it's still confusing. I think I need to return to it when I'm not using one hand and on the phone so I can take notes.

EnidButton · 31/12/2016 02:19

It's one of those things that if you take it step by step and really slowly, it starts to make sense. I'm still starting really and I've been posting throughout all the threads. The others are very good at advising so I'm sure you'll find things that work well for you. Smile

hollinhurst84 · 31/12/2016 06:18

Enid - the dollish one? I've been through three of them!

feettothestars · 31/12/2016 06:41

Oo what an exciting thread discovery. I'm a cleansing fanatic after discovering Caroline Hirons a few years ago. Agree I find that (as with all bloggers I have liked) that it's hard to know what's sponsored or what's motivated the post etc etc. I have acquired a LOT of products as I buy space nk gifts with purchases but I've dibbled and dabbled so much over Christmas that I've had an allergic reaction with no idea what caused it (though a New Look hat is chief suspect). I will be following with interest and will add some lovely things I've found this year.

FizzyBubbly · 31/12/2016 07:51

Wow thanks Bo for going beyond the call of duty re the Skeen info! DH is a very active forum user and is rather blown away by how much effort you go into to help others (as am I) Flowers Very interesting how the company was formed, and I chuckled at the mental image of the Parisienne women! Looking forward to hearing what they get back to you with, thanks again
