I have gone grey (stopped dyeing). Not everyone likes it, am I too young?

I'm 49 and I've been dyeing my hair for a long time as I started going grey in my early 30s. I'm sick of it, so I stopped having it dyed about 10 months ago and I've just had the last of the colour cut out (it was very faded anyway as it was semi-permanent). A few people have said that they much preferred it coloured and that I'm too young to go grey. It did suit my colouring better when it was brown, and my hair is a bit fine and the dye thickened it up a bit, but I don't think I'm too young to be grey, am I?

I am tempted to grow it out. The sides by my ears are whitish and the dye seems to not work well there and when it's first done I'm always taking care not to 'wash' it out or touch when washing/cleansing face as it seems to not last.

I think I do look fairly youthful at 49 but would love to let it be dye free just to see how grey it actually was.

I have bought the colour remover and will take out the dye when I have time to see how I like it.
My problem is that my hair was my best feature. Long, thick, dark brown with a wave. Literally everyone has complimented me on it over the years.

Not sure having hair that looks the same grey/ white as everyone else my age will have the same effect.....

But it won't look the same as everyone else. Not all grey hair is the same just as not all brown hair looks the same. Loads of variety in shade and texture which is why some of us are happy with what we get and others are not. Fingers crossed you're one of the lucky ones.

The colour remover won't reveal your true colour though. All dyes, including dark ones , have a lightener in it.
I went ginger when I used it and Im naturally dark brown. Well, was.

Those who say grey hair doesn't suit some skin tones or eye colours, or who feel it would make them look "washed out"... I'm curious: do you feel the same about men with grey hair?

Yes, absolutely.

Revealall · 18/12/2016 18:35

Flosime- is that true though? I think grey hair looks very similar on everyone mainly because of the texture. Some older ladies appear to have fine hair but most of the grey in younger women does look, well like coarser grey hair.

I think this is why men get away with it. Their hair is quite formulaic in style terms. So grey, bald, receding is just what happens after short back and sides of their youth ( or long fringe, mullet etc whatever the style of the time is.)

Yes I do think it's true. For starters, just look at all the different pics on this thread. Friends my age with grey hair all look completely different.
