Hmm may go with the KIKO then from what you're saying re feel and staying power, though the Nyx is half the price and has good reviews, but is sold out online at Boots and can't find on eBay...
Will have a look at the stila one

grew · 29/11/2016 22:14

Thank you so much. Sorry I wasn't clear
AM
wash with efflar wash
efflclar toner
Efflcar duo
B radiance day cream
LRP sunscreen

PM
Micellar water
Efflclar wash
Either efflcar Toner or nip fab twice a week
Efflcar duo
B radiance night cream
Have just bought the LRP retinal

My face does feel really dry and tight after washing with the efflcar washSad. Suspected I wasn't doing the right thing. I just bought the trio pack and started using them.

So I will ditch the micellar water and the efflcar wash. I do like the feeling of washing my face with water but that's prob just habit. Will try the body shop recommendation.

Shall I continue with everything else? What was BHA again?

yongnian · 29/11/2016 22:17

For actual concealer I have a great little Sonia Kashuk palette that has 4 good yellow tones in my winter through summer colours. Doesn't budge but v creamy too.
Also have a good Sephora double ended concealer 'pen' nib one end, angled thicker stick the other. Colour not as good but v precise.

Truckingalong · 29/11/2016 22:19

I'd started to think that my LRP gel wash was making my spots flare up but I convinced myself it must be coincidence, as LRP is so well recommended on here. It seems from what you've said though about SLS that I was right after all.

I have a heady mix of saggy wrinkly skin and on-going cystic acne. It makes me despair. I think I'll try the toleraine cleanser next.

AuroraPolaris · 29/11/2016 22:19

bo what do you think about the Effeclar toner? Probably best replaced with Serozinc, right?

yongnian · 29/11/2016 22:21

Yeah the Stila does look pretty good, to be fair...haven't used Stila for a long time but their textures were always pretty good.....hmmm, tempted...

Arsenicinthesugarbowl · 29/11/2016 22:22

Thank you bo! I shall get on and order a few bits and keep you all posted.

yongnian · 29/11/2016 22:23

Re LRP effaclar, I found the gel wash was terrible for my face, far too harsh, but ok for back and shoulders where I had cystic acne, at the time.
Effaclar duo I find great though, and have repurchased - nixes a spot before it can get going.

botemp · 29/11/2016 22:33

PLEASE NOTE

I understand that everyone would like custom advice, and as much as I sympathise let me put it in general lines as follows:

-I don't advise to be starting on anything The Ordinary until you have at least a good understanding of acids, eg. which ones are exfoliating, which ones aren't, why pH matters, etc. What actives are and what they will do for specific skin types, etc.

  • For hormonal acne, medical skin conditions, etc. : your first stop should be a doctor or dermatologist not an internet forum.

-Most of the advice on here will be repetitive as are the product recommendations. It's pretty much the LRP Toleriane Dermo Cleanser, LRP Toleriane Fluide Moisturiser, LRP Anthelios or Biore UV Watery Essence SPF. After that you can start looking into actives, acids, etc. etc. and you shouldn't start slapping any of those things on your face until you have a solid understanding what they do and if they are suited for you.

-Please have a read through of thread 1 as linked in the OP before asking for advice, and read through some of these beginner and anti-ageing threads which are a bit shorter.

-Please use the format as described on Tue 29-Nov-16 @ 19:11:43.

-To keep it reasonable I'll be limiting answering in detail to 2-3 people a day, this thread is meant for general advanced skincare chat with a focus towards (active) ingredients and we don't mind helping out with specific issues but this shouldn't become a general request thread.

-As echoed by Aurora helpfully, we're not experts so keep that in mind. All we can do is advise on how we'd tackle your issues and these are mostly universal guidelines that only through understanding and experience of you and your own skin can help customise to your specific needs.

goatkid · 29/11/2016 22:34

Great thread! I'd love to pick your brains. I'm totally clueless and just muddle my way along hoping for results!

Skin type: Combination

Approx age (range): Mid to late 20s

Primary skin concern: Post spot red marking. Starting to see my first hint of a line on my forehead, want to keep that at bay 😑

Routine :*

AM : REN sensitive cleansing milk
Nip + fab dragon blood serum
Moisturiser - currently a garnier one for combination skin

PM : Clinique TTDO balm
Cleansing milk
Nip + fab night cream

Makeup : medium coverage

Occasional treatments: Alpha Liquid gold every 2-3 nights

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results:
REN omega serum made my skin react awfully

Things that are really working well for me now:
Im not sure if anything is working particularly well or not.

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant: No

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: eg. >£10, £10-20, £20-50, £50-100, no limits. 20-50 (upper end for a wonder one off product, I can't stretch to that for all)

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]:*
I get occasional spots on my cheeks. Much better since having 3 months on Duac. They aren't as deep and disappear fairly quickly (compared to how my skin used to be) but they leave red blemishes once they've healed. I'd like something to help with these red marks. I also wouldn't mind starting a weekly mask but I have no idea what to look for, there's so many different types out there Confused

My REN cleansing milk is running out and I'll not be replacing with the same. I'm not that impressed with it, it doesn't feel like it does enough if you know what I mean? My face felt cleaner and fresher with a cheaper biore face wash.

TIA - grateful for any little piece of advice/recommendations you have.

AuroraPolaris · 29/11/2016 22:43

Welcome to the DHC oil club pupsie Wink** and I totally agree the EH isn't worth the money. Was really not over impressed with it.

I second bo (again Wink) - please read the first thread. It has A LOT of very detailed ingredient info from which you can learn what possibly suits your skin. These things take a loooong time to accomplish, so be patient with your skin!

AuroraPolaris · 29/11/2016 22:44

Oh oh I didn't mean to have all that in bold font BlushI should really go to sleep now....

AM
wash with efflar wash

goatkid · 29/11/2016 22:55

Oh sorry I cross posted with you bo. I'll head over to the other thread and have a good read Smile

botemp · 29/11/2016 22:59

I missed entire parts of conversation... Joik, I will check them out. Zara home, my usual go to, has been increasing their prices much to my annoyance. Thanks, Aurora will have a look tomorrow probably. Or sniff rather.

Pupsie, several reasons, I don't tan but I'm neutral toned so colour differently in winter and summer light (winter light is bluer so I veer towards cold and vice versa, I find true neutrals generally make me look ill when you manage to actually find one as the colour never matches). I also belong to 0.001% of the population that perceives more colours than anyone else so I'm overly picky about colour, and I'm very trained to see in light and shadow so I'm more fussy than most about these things, also one of the main reasons I splurge on high end makeup, I know it's imperceivable to most but I can very clearly see the difference in a lot of products. So basically, as most things in life, I'm a PITA about these things and it only matters to me Grin.

grew · 29/11/2016 22:59

Thanks so much. Yes I think I just was a let's try everything which was not a thought out plan. I just read the beginner thread which has helped.
The toner is called Effaclar astringent lotion microexfoliant
The nip fab pads are glycolic fix night pads.
The LRP is called Redermic R

Thanks so much for your help in navigating all the information

botemp · 29/11/2016 23:01

You'll be first on the list to answer tomorrow goatskid.

botemp · 29/11/2016 23:09

That toner doesn't look good at all, far too harsh. Get rid, #sorrynotsorry.

Can you return the Redermic R? It's not a terrible product but The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2% is far more affordable and gentle enough for most whilst still effective. I'd probably alternate or use with ED depending on manufacturer's instructions.

Nip & Fab - use it post cleansing 2-3x a week. These are kind of the strongest ones to be starting with though so be cautioned and take it slow. On the medium to long term you'll probably see more use out of BHA for your t-zone (and chin if spotty).

Really going to bed now...

Pupsiecola · 29/11/2016 23:09

Fascinating bo. Thanks for taking the time to explain. The colouring thing confuses me. The colours that suit me are Autumnal ones - deep, warm reds, greens, teals, oranges, blues, browns etc., the emphasis being on warm. I have brunette hair and medium brown eyes. I assumed that because warm colours suit me best I must have a warm complexion. But when I went to Space NK for my Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser she initially thought I was neutral, then settled on blue. I don't quite get how I can be a cold skin colour if warm tones suit me best clothing wise. I had thought I was more neutral actually, and perhaps I am, but because this was late Autumn the blue light effect had an impact. Interesting!

hollinhurst84 · 29/11/2016 23:25

Pupsie GrinGrin at blue, I'm exactly that shade
I've found my holy grail BB cream which gives great coverage too but I'm still looking for the perfect foundation. Got a Lancôme sample so I'm trying that at the minute

Pupsiecola · 29/11/2016 23:27

hollin my husband is blue too, and so are our children of course. You should have seen us when we lived in the tropics!! Didn't stand out at all ;-)

My mum weirdly is dark olive tones (think NC45 In mac next to my NW15!) brown eyes, nearly black hair. She looks at the sun and turns dark brown instantly. My cousins are the same and often mistaken for being her children Grin

Pupsiecola · 29/11/2016 23:36

Here is a pic of my cheek. Not particularly great lighting. No make up. I wish I'd taken pics of before I started really getting into the actives.

My mum and brother are like that. Both tan very easily and go a very dark brown. My dad and I have very pale skin that burns within a few minutes. I have the best of their hair though (despite the dry ends). I have my dad's waves and my mum's huge amount of hair. I had it cut today and my roots done. I've gone more auburn over the last year. I do find it's softer as you get older.

OP posts:
hollinhurst84 · 29/11/2016 23:42

I've definitely gone softer red, was virtually orange hair as a kid! My dad has blue eyes but mine are green, this is a pic from my model port but shows how porcelain/blue I am Grin
