Thanks Aurora, I actually chucked the serozinc a few years ago as it really was not helpful for my skin. I tried spraying on skin, into hands, on cotton wool pads...eventually accepted that mine was the skintype that didn't like it Blush. I have used the P50W every night for a week or so before, so could definitely give that a go again. Good tip.

Interesting that the no-morning cleanse wasn't great for you, were you using acids in the am or just water?

Dulcimena · 14/12/2016 14:50

Bo god the Leonor Greyl serum sounds high maintenance - and I found the Kiehls finicky to work with! I want something that makes my life easier not harder, maybe not that one then. Thank you. The search continues...

AuroraPolaris · 14/12/2016 14:58

Was just skipping cleanser in the AM. I think it was before I started with acids in any case, three four years ago.
I would not use aha/ bha in the morning now routinely as it's too much for my skin. I use the P50 (normal) so 3-4 times a week is more than enough for me.

FizzyBubbly · 14/12/2016 16:31

Maybe a silly question... but is there much difference between the liquid and lotion versions of PC skin perfecting 2% BHA? I decided on the lotion based on the skin type recommendations on the website, but aren't all the rave reviews for the liquid? I'm sure the difference is negligible and I wouldn't be a sheep and get something that didn't suit my skin type anyway but it's nagging at me

Pupsiecola · 14/12/2016 17:05

Is Clarins Lotus Oil really for oily/combo skins only?

OP posts:
OpenMindedSceptic · 14/12/2016 17:08

Has anyone attempted to make their own Vit C serum? I was looking at my big tub of ascorbic acid powder earlier and had this sudden urge to rub it all over my face Grin . I guess the problem would be keeping it stable. Anyway, I resisted and put it in my drink instead!

AuroraPolaris · 14/12/2016 17:51

I have normal/ dry skin and have been using the Lotus Oil for the most part of the last 20 years Xmas Wink
A very good Clarins facialist once told me to just use the one I like the most.

Yes I tried going the DIY Vit C way a few years ago and made a "mask" a few times but gave up pretty soon and couldn't see how it could be truly effective Xmas Grin

Indecisivejo · 14/12/2016 19:04

bo with no purpose I guess, I'm just going through one of my phases (happens quite often but more so around time of month) where my skin goes crazy and I start getting itchy fingers and want to change all my products because I want to find something to blame even though I know it's hormones/weather/heating etc! I'm constantly hoping to find products that will make make me happy with the way I look (stupid body dismorphia)

Ok is there anything that can help the look of "orange peel" skin?? I took some pics for my eyes only and this is what I seem to have, a shiny/waxy if that makes sense surface with the orange peel effect (lots of small visible pores) and congestion mainly on nose and forehead.

MintyChops · 14/12/2016 19:57

We got a new puppy at the weekend and between that and the kids I haven't had a chance to get back to you, have spent the last 5 days standing around in the rain waiting for a pee or a poo! I am still waiting for my p50w but have decided on a few new products to introduce when others run out but I have a few questions.

  • LRP Toleriane fluid vs Benton Snail Bee? Am very interested in the AB stuff but don't know where to start or what to do. Would this be a good place to start or should I just replace my current moisturiser with the LRP?
  • Bo and Aurora, sorry if I missed this, I promise I have RTFT but what spf do you use?
  • Again, on the AB theme, I would like to try a sleeping pack as suggested but not sure where to start. Would ones like the TK Max ones above be ok or is there a better place to start, e.g. do the Benton lot do a good one?

Thank you And here is a photo of my new and adorable puppy, Jeeves!

Fantastic Skincare And Where To Find It
yongnian · 14/12/2016 20:12

Oh minty he really is adorable! What is he?
bo yes that's it, I thought you could make individual ones....Grin
aurora that's very kind, will pm you
In make-up news, my Daniel Sandler blush samples have arrived. Only had time to play with one...love the colours, like the consistency for use...might mix with something else to get a slightly dewier effect, as first impression is it's quite matte. Really really good and natural though, and could probably build up if required. Thumbs up there, once have had a proper play will prob go full size.
Bizarre ultra-dry skin today....including an odd eyelid crease where I had my dermatitis 'burn' recently. It's either a kick-back from my weekend travel products/routine, or because of dehydration from my current tedious throat infection/cold/whatever..or it could be the BHA...used it for the 3rd time today...slathered myself in several layers of rice bran oil cleanser, sanoflore huile merveilleuse, cicaplast on the eyelid and then night cream. Necked a litre of water. (Usually have 2-3 per day but been running round like chicken with head cut off today and have gone short, not sensible whilst dehydrated from cold too). So will see if that helps.

botemp · 14/12/2016 20:21

I was pretty close to DIYing a Vit C serum but after reading through these posts it became pretty clear to me as a one off trial it was a lot of investment time and money wise. That is supposed to be one of the better recipes out there, nearly identical to SkinCeuticals. Then The Ordinary came along with their seductive pricing. I might still give it a go at some point if only to slather the entire body with Vit C Grin.

What do you want it to do for your hair, Dulci? Although I find it tough to get the amount right, the Christophe Robin Hydratant Santal does work pretty well for me and is somewhat like the Kiehl's Silk Groom Creme which was a long time staple for me in the past.

I missed your reply earlier Aurora, yes Bijenkorf is lethal right now there's two pairs of Acne shoes there that I want boots and sneakers, I'm not asking much honest, a Philip Lim bag that I really don't need but want and hey it's a crossbody, it's totally practical, a Marni sweater I'm sure this arctic winter will carry one forever so it's very sensible really, and some bits from Iro all super necessary of course. Not that I was looking or anything Wink. Although I'd avoid Furla, I used to buy them loads about a decade or so ago when they were all priced around €100 in Italy the more expensive ones €250 at most, now it's quadruple that but the quality is exactly the same, I feel they're massively overpriced these days especially those stupid jelly bags, who wants to see everything you carry in a bag, FFS!.

I hate the dress down culture! Mostly because I have quite classic features, look very done up very easily and I like my clothes so am probably overdressed most of the time and it seems to be a pastime here to somehow make people feel bad for making other people feel underdressed (not that I take much notice of that). I guess it is a Calvinistic trait primarily, vanity is definitely considered a moral deficit here.

I find oil blends don't strictly adhere to skin types as most other products do ,Pupsie, although some do play better than others with certain skin types and if you're using a single oil then proceed with a bit more caution. I think dry skin has the most versatility with the blends, there are a few astringent oils like grapeseed out there but if it's part of a blend that hardly influences a dry skin enough to actually be drying. Combo-oily need to be more picky about what they slap on.

Fizzy, the raving for the liquid is mostly to do with the fact that BHA is more often used by combo-oily skins (they're far more likely to have pore issues, etc. due to the presence of oil, it's actually quite rare to have blackheads, spots, large pores, etc. with dry skin) so there just aren't many lotion users and it would probably feel to clogging and heavy to oily/combo skins. It has a few silicones in there and I'm definitely not a fan of the PC lotion type textures but if you like it carry on, I do actually find the BHA liquid a bit on the drying side and will only use it on my nose which is slightly oily but I really don't need it anywhere else so that works for me. I really do not start keeping files on you lot, remind me again of skin type and why you're getting/using the BHA?

Jo, how close exactly were you taking those pictures? And in all honesty I think phone pictures are actually the worst representation of your skin, they really aren't a true mirror, they're calibrated to making Asians look good (on the whole, it will differ per manufacturer) it doesn't work out well for Caucasian and Darker skin. Anyhow for those things it's mostly Niacinamide as an ingredient. Is Dimethicone completely off the table for you too? Otherwise the Cerave PM lotion may be worth looking at, has a boatload of ceramides too which is good for barrier restoration and it's rumoured to have 4-5% Niacinamide which is far less sensitising dosage.

Jeeves looks adorable, Minty! Yes, so again I need files on you lot, what's your skin type again? I'd say Benton if you veer to dry, LRP if you veer to combo-oily. Though Benton may work as a night time moisturiser for combo, possibly. What would you like from a sleeping pack, they're mostly heavy hydrators. I'd avoid TKMaxx for AB (sorry to whomever just bought a shit ton from there), tend to be pricey and I'd say about 95% of AB is stuff you don't really want (heavy in alcohol, silicones, fragrance, etc). Benton don't do a sleeping pack as far as I know. I recently spotted some CosRx overnight sleeping masks (same principle) samples on ebay so a good way to try them out. Aurora and I are big fans of the Naruko Magnolia night gelly but it's a high niacinamide one so keep in mind if also using TO Nia.

Also for anyone interested although a group buy may be in order for it, on yesstyle the Benton Essence (the snail/propolis one that Aurora likes and is from the same line as the steam cream) is on sale there for $10 but they only do free shipping from $35, there were a few other interesting discounts on there too though, will have to look up the reddit post again. Also Testerkorea are doing free shipping on everything over $10 but under 250g weight so there a few interesting bits and bobs there too, thinking of finally getting the Blossom Jeju Camellia oil... as if I needed anymore oils Blush.

So how much will you lot be paying for individual cleansing balms, yongnian? As you can see above I have certain needs Wink.

botemp · 14/12/2016 20:37

Sorry Minty, forgot about the SPF question I use the Kose Sekkisei Sun Protect Essence Milk, which does contain a few ingredients I'd normally avoid like fragrance (but when the Japanese add fragrance to things it's strangely never irritating to me) and a bunch of silicones but that's really hard to avoid in SPFs and since it acts as a makeup base that works for me, and alcohol but you need that to help penetrate and make it dry quicker so mostly functional and at a percentage I don't find drying and/or irritating.

Although I am thinking of sampling the Shiseido Senka Aging Care UV Sunscreen/Senka Mineral Water UV Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ to see if it would be a good one for the Rosaceae party and it comes in very affordable to in although none of the Rosaceae party seem to be interested in my offering of Japanese SPF research.

AuroraPolaris · 14/12/2016 20:45

Haha I think I was looking at the same Acne shoes you were Wink but I don't wear heels during the day anymore and neither can I stand in pointy shoes more than 10 min so that's out of the question and wasn't sure about the sneakers (with that square bit on top, I assume?). I did get a very nice pair of Adidas Gazelle and one for DH. Oh for the days that I could walk in heels for hours and hours Xmas Shock. I only wear heels in the evening now... and if I know that I don't have to stand/ walk for too long.
I was looking at the small Furla bags (bright blue but not the very small ones). Very cute and practical for me. I have a big brown one super old I like a lot... but I really don't need it. In any case I wouldn't but it until it was at least 50% and it was only 30% Xmas Grin

AuroraPolaris · 14/12/2016 20:49

Minty your puppy is so so cute!!!

Yes I really love the Narüko Magnolia Night Gelly at the moment but like bo said have a look at the Cosrx ones. I remember someone on the AB thread was very pleased with the rice one. Who was it bo? I also meant to get it but then my DH went to Taiwan and I sent him shopping for me Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin so got all that Narüko stuff.

EnidButton · 14/12/2016 20:51

Irish Terriers are the best Minty! He is beautiful!! ❤❤

botemp · 14/12/2016 20:52

Yes the ones with the square bit, I liked them in burgundy but was in The Hague one this afternoon. Which reminds me, Pupsie, the TKMaxx had the UB Rose Mask again, nearly bought it but figured I'd ask first and I'll be in the area again this week (doubt they're flying off the shelves but no guarantees) do you desperately want it? Don't mind sending it on, hope it still fits through the post, will check with the one I have first regardless.

AuroraPolaris · 14/12/2016 20:52

And minty at the moment I have both versions (silver and gold packaging) of the Anessa facial UV.

EnidButton · 14/12/2016 20:53

Jo Do you think you it could be the dysmorphia that's making your skin look that way? Are you having a flare up ATM? Just asking because I had bdd and a lot of it was focused on my skin and I would've described my skin just as you have. Sorry if that's overstepping the mark but thought I should ask. It's an awful thing to suffer with. Flowers

botemp · 14/12/2016 20:55

I can't remember, maybe Lumpy? I might actually snag some samples too, apparently the rice or honey goes off a little after a while (or something strange happens to it that I can't remember) so samples for single use actually sound like a great idea since it's an incidental treat. I also think there's a special edition coming out for Christmas where they've put them in a tube, much more practical, I've always been a bit hesitant about those since they contain Dimethicone, not the end of the world but you always wake up to a weird film with that.

AuroraPolaris · 14/12/2016 20:56

Yep, the burgundy ones!
I've actually looked for burgundy ankle boots the whole winter but never found something I really liked. And I only buy stuff I really really like so I never get sick of my clothes or shoes Wink

yongnian · 14/12/2016 20:59

bo yes sorry I missed that, I am interested in your Japanese SPFs, do tell.
And yes, well, looking at your wish list, I'm guessing we might be needing to save up for your bespoke balms Grin

AuroraPolaris · 14/12/2016 21:07

Shiseido (Anessa is their Japanese SPF line) claim to have perhaps the most advanced sun protection technologies-
Light Stamina - releasing the energy from the UV rays to boost the long term protection.
Aqua Boost - when skin gets wet or sweaty the protection is again boosted (this applies only to the "perfect" very water resistant creams).
Mind you what Shiseido sell in Japan and what they sell night west is not always similar .

botemp · 14/12/2016 21:09

It's all on discount so not too bad though will probably wait out the 50% just like Aurora... Bo's Bespoke Balms there's a ring to that isn't it, does it sound expensive Grin

Anyhow here's the link to yesstyle for the cheapo Benton Essence. And here's the link to the Reddit post that links a few other products of interest but not many that I know, so don't know how solid it is to just buy those. There's also a current offer of 12% off when you spend $99. Never ordered with yesstyle before, it is well liked though and I think they do fib a bit on the order totals and mark things as gift, etc. for customs.

Ok, ok, lemme get my notes out, brb with the Japanese SPF business.

AuroraPolaris · 14/12/2016 21:12

Yongian I'll try to mail you the stuff by Friday.

If you want to get into Japanese SPF there's no better place than http://www.ratzillacosme.com/category/sun/
But be warned it's a rabbit hole. I spent hours there this past spring looking at ingredients since I'm so sensitive to SPF Xmas Grin but it payed off!

botemp · 14/12/2016 21:14

Unfortunately Ratzilla changed her site about a bit and I'm either missing it or she took out all the tags and the search function. Much more difficult to filter out things at the moment.
