wilting you are a wonderful distraction. All my hobbies involve being outside and active so enforced quiet time at home this week won't come naturally to me!

FizzyBubbly · 13/12/2016 08:10

Phew! Just had a mammoth catch up, this thread moves fast now!

Flowers to those recovering from miscarriages, hope the talk of lovely skin products distracts you

Bo that was me with the Verso eye serum, DH has passed that part of my Xmas list to my MIL who wouldn't blink twice at the price but thanks for the thought. If you say it lasts about a year (and I get on with it) I'll bear the Skincity(?) advent in mind next year if I want to RP.

Similar to you Wilting, I do the cleansing phase at 6pm whilst supervising bath time, then gradually apply the rest of my PM routine over the next hour or so that kids are in bed and skin is sorted by 7pm. Before I started doing this I would regularly go to bed without even cleansing Xmas Blush

Does anyone else have a beauty advent? DH surprised me with the Selfridges one and I can't help but think most of it will be wasted on me and my very particular skin.

WendlaBergmann · 13/12/2016 08:27

Thank you so much for your help botemp I think you're right about how sensitised my skin is - and although pre toddler it was wonderful, I was throwing everything at it and now just can't do that without angry tomato face showing up.

The spf rec I think is the key one, from reading through yesterday it seems an important step. I've found the one you mentioned on Amazon, and will see what anyone else with rosacea mentions too.

I'm always loathed to chuck anything even if it's not working as especially over the last couple of years, I'd have wasted a fortune! But remembering back, others have repurposed their cleansers etc. Maybe the glow tonic and aqua marina can be put to use elsewhere.

The Glow tonic isn't doing anything - it's much too harsh for my cheeks so I don't use it there, but doesn't seem to be improving other other parts of my face either, I'm using it as I know it exfoliates and should help skin tone, but certainly don't seem to be getting an results that would make me want to carry on. - I'll give the PC sample size a try and see where I go. Am I right in thinking that should be gentle enough to use all over - or keep to just using it on my forehead, nose and chin?

I have some of the Superdrug Simply Pure serum knocking around - would that be OK as a HA step? I can't remember if it felt siliconey - something in my head says it didn't.

I have a very cheering shopping list and some hope that I might not be looking like an angry tomato at my fortieth now. Thank you so much.

Other posters with rosacea - what oil cleansers are you finding gentle please?

I don't have anywhere near your levels of knowledge, but am definitely going to carry on reading.

Pupsiecola · 13/12/2016 08:28

Having read that bo I think I am probably verging on dry. Defo not dehydrated (since drinking 3 litres of water each day). Defo not oily/combo. Useful info.

What are the other Una Brennan products like? I saw she had a rose oil I think?

I'm defo going to gift that set. My best friend has had a horrendous few years and is in a dire financial situation. I will split it between her and her 13 year old and post it to them. But then again, what if they love it? They won't be able to afford to replace it once it runs out. Even giving stuff away isn't straight forward :-(

OP posts:
botemp · 13/12/2016 08:32

Sorry Jo, no experience with either products. The Serozinc will help with soothing but can feel a bit drying. What cleanser are you using again? I'm wondering what the pH level is.

Somerset, no I don't work in beauty just really nerdy about itmentioned it on the first thread, I'm an architect and why I chew out poor Pupsie's fuckwit of a former PM at every turn.

As a general guide for skincare anything unopened over 3 years old is no longer good. Makeup is also good about 3 years (unopened) but powder products about 5 years. On www.checkfresh.com you can check the batch code for most things to see when they were produced.

For anything opened the little symbol

AuroraPolaris · 13/12/2016 08:35

Fizzy I'd never even consider a beauty advent as I probably wouldn't be able to use half the stuff and the other half would have SLS or silicones or smg....

Somerset in some SPAs you can get 50ml bottles of P50. Try that maybe. I have the normal one.

Yongian you can have a decant of the Cosrx BHA if you like.

Darphin Chamomile oil is on sale at Skin City today.

Trying not to buy anything else till 2017 Xmas Winkbesides if I see very good offers on eBay for more Sulwhasoo ginger oil and/or oil cleanser.
Got my lovely mascara but still waiting for BT blush.

And by the way my DIY nail oil is working wonders - my nails are in much better shape!!

botemp · 13/12/2016 08:41

Sorry Fizzy, not wilting.

If she loves it and you can afford it buy her some full sizes, Pupsie. Think it's always appropriate to gift people things when they're having a tough time and all the more special when it's not the traditional period for it.

I think the UB rose oil was recommended by Sali Hughes one as a really good oil that was punching above its weight budget wise, have heard similar things about the Neroli night cream.

Wendla, the glow tonic can easily be used on the body, it does far less damage there. BHA, you'll have to build up the tolerance and see where you end up in terms of how often you'll need it, with rosacea you should be okay to use all over the face.

The Superdrug Simply Pure should work fine as a HA step, don't think that should be siliconey but there may have been another reason you didn't enjoy it initially?

hollinhurst84 · 13/12/2016 08:45

Still waiting for my Deciem order... I'm impatient now!

hollinhurst84 · 13/12/2016 08:46

Oh I have the una Brennan neroli and have had the Rose, both pre cleansers and lovely

botemp · 13/12/2016 08:51

Pre cleansers Confused you mean they're oil cleansers? I thought the rose was a treatment oil and the Vit C one was the cleansing oil.

Pupsiecola · 13/12/2016 08:53

I am probably one of the few who has chucked some stuff (not all) that didn't work. I did take the Pixi Glow Tonic back to M&S for a refund. In my mind, the stuff was already paid for and if there was better stuff to be used on my face I didn't want to hang around. I reckon I have since saved money by far more careful buying, and will continue to do so.

OP posts:
Pupsiecola · 13/12/2016 08:53

Wendla could you use some of these products on the back of your hands? The Glow Tonic perhaps?

OP posts:
botemp · 13/12/2016 08:56

Ignore above, have Googled it. They rec it as an OCM treatment, but should work easily enough as a treatment oil.

Pupsiecola · 13/12/2016 08:58

Thing is bo I have lent her quite a lot of money over the last 10 years, some of which I haven't had back. It nearly broke our friendship because it was a monthly occurrence ("please can you lend me £200 until payday") and I felt a little used at times. So I do have to be very careful about how I go about things these days.

OP posts:
hollinhurst84 · 13/12/2016 08:58

Nope, they're both designed as first cleanses!

Fantastic Skincare And Where To Find It
hollinhurst84 · 13/12/2016 09:00

Yeah the one I have here is neroli lift and hydrate facial oil
Then you turn it over and on the back it says designed to pre cleanse for best results
Labelling clear as mud Grin

botemp · 13/12/2016 09:03

That makes for a difficult history, Pupsie. You could still do it for the 13 y.o. though?

Pupsiecola · 13/12/2016 09:11

I think I will send it to both to share bo and might ask her casually which products they liked then buy a full one for future bdays and xmas. I do want to help her, but at the same time having established boundaries I need to maintain them.

OP posts:
FizzyBubbly · 13/12/2016 09:21

Hmm that's confirmed my thoughts re the beauty calendars. Poor DH has noted my skincare obsession so gets bonus points for the gesture! Will use the perfumes and mascaras, and there's a couple of Kiehls items I'm familiar with, but it seems to be very Lancôme heavy so far which I have no experience with

No idea how much those products cost Pupsie but I understand you being wary.

I often car boot any unused or even half used smellies/gift sets/samples Blush Its surprising what people will buy, and it always sells like hot cakes (even the used stuff Confused) My friend always give me pound shop type gift sets for my birthday which go straight to the charity shop too I sound so ungrateful don't I!

Indecisivejo · 13/12/2016 09:42

bo it's the dermalogica ultracalming cleanser. It's only one that doesn't sting my eyes or irritate my skin and doesn't leave me with a tight feeling straight after, I hated the Lrp toleriane cleanser it really irritates my eyes and leaves an irritating film on my skin despite thorough removal. I then use subq serum followed by dermalogica active moist which is oil free but still hydrating (if I use anything with oil my skin breaks out)

Somersetlady · 13/12/2016 10:15

Aurora whats an SMA please?

I have googled but assume you are not talking about baby milk, illness or the stage managers association!?

I think we need a whole break down of acronyms for this thread alone!

yongnian · 13/12/2016 10:22

Thanks for that info bo so I think on balance I have combination skin. Not having excessive oil, not feeling tight (though sometimes a little dry in places and sometimes a little flaky but thing that is from seb derm.)
Yes, you did recommend me to start with the PC 1% BHA. I'm not sure I've been using it long enough to evaluate....went with your 2 or 3 days rec and have therefore only used it twice since I got the samples. What am I looking for there? (Apart from no obvious irritation of course). Am using it in the one or two areas I sometimes get little fine blocked pores/blackheads and have just cautiously started to try it in the rosacea zone. I had tightness after I used it first, but not sure if that was due to my routine being interrupted at that point by small person, before I got a chance to get my hydration layers in.
Not had tightness since.
wendla I use rice bran oil to do a cleanse (think strictly speaking this is a different thing from an oil cleanser per see) - I read that it was beneficial for rosacea. My skin likes it. And not expensive (I bought food grade and decanted into a small pump bottle). It also helps with any dryness or flakiness from the seb derm I have (related to the rosacea apparently).
aurora sorry to hear about your mom...I would love a decant of the cosrx BHA, thank you! Let me know how to go about it....
I just counted up the products from my AM routine...I'm now up to 10!!! I'm reaching AB levels Grin
I'm slathering on the last bit of my old night cream to use it up before I try the Siberian Nature one I bought recently..everything else I bought has now been finangled into my routine..apart from the whamisa mask....might take that on hols with me.
Awaiting Daniel Sandler watercolour blush samples and still endlessly agonising over my next SPF purchase as I come towards the end of the LRP anthelios cream.
Good thing about being much more conscientious about skin care is I use up the products more quickly so get to buy other things! or is that a bad thing

Somersetlady · 13/12/2016 10:25

bo you should start a consultancy irl. I know many career women who would pay good money for your advice but dont want the hassle pf visiting a dermatologist and you cant get impartial advice from people who are trying to flog you stuff so where else to go!?

wiltingfast · 13/12/2016 10:26

Hirons has a big Deciem raffle giveaway today. Just sayin' Grin

Jo I'd love to know more about the hydra density spray, it seems to be for extra hydration is it?

Haven't tried the cleanser but am in the market for more as currently all I have are the (required Grin ) LRP dermo cleanser, clinique TTDO and UB's vit c oil, which I can only use v occasionally as it's not gentle enough for me really.

Anyone tried the NIOD sanskrit saponins one?

botemp · 13/12/2016 11:15

We discussed that on the first thread too Somerset, I think I was charging £250 there's definitely a gap for it in the market, especially something online based. I think where I'm located (in the Netherlands) there'd be less of a demand for it (in a physical location), at least in my immediate circle people wouldn't pay for it despite earning plenty but probably would if you tied it in with makeup consultations which I'd be useless at.

I don't think Aurora mentioned SMA just a SPA that I think her phone turned into capitals Confused. It tends to be spas that exclusively sell the P50 lotions in the UK.

Acronyms used on here a bit:

TO - The Ordinary

SS - sunscreen

OCM - Oil Cleansing Method (a bit of a hollistic/traditional approach to oil cleansing, just using pure oils to clean your face with but lacks an emulsifier so tougher to cleanse off your face completely, not ideal for everyone but beneficial for some)

AHA - Alpha Hydroxy Acids - help weaken the bonds on the outer layer of the skin and encourage cell turnover to reveal brighter/newer skin

BHA- Beta Hydroxy Acids - oil soluble so works on a deeper level of the skin, clearing out pores thus helping halt their oil production and help reduce the appearance of pores.

SPF- another sunscreen acronym

CB- Cleansing Balm

DECIEM- parent company of TO, NIOD, Hylamide, etc. not really an acronym but some people think it is.

LG- Liquid gold not the electronics manufacturer Grin

There's probably more... ask and I'll keep a list of them so they can be put in the next OP as we look to be heading towards a new thread again. Aurora, what ridiculous non title shall we come up with next Xmas Grin?

wilting remind me of your profile again, I'm not crazy enough to keep files on you lot yet. I know those two are super functional but what would you like from a cleanser?

And will someone offer Somerset a P50W decant already? I know you're all a lovely generous lot and some bought way too much of it anyhow so could spare to donate some Wink.
